anakin dropped in a pit of lava when fighting against Obi-Wan. At least it was told so in the book of the Episode's IV-VI which I borrowed from library

I'm sure Lucas will find a way to change that into "falls into a pit of terrible puns, overused cliches and barely hidden self-satire"

I don't know.

When Vader's helmet was removed at the end of the movie, he looked... not so healthy (and I don't think it was just the fight with the Emperor and Luke that did it) but later when he appeared as the blue glowy, he looked remarkably better. To what else would you attribute that but the saving of his soul from the darkside? Wouldn't this then imply that his physical body was being transformed?

While the Emperor was old, I don't think he was _that_ old.

Of course, it's been a while since I've seen Episode 6, so maybe I'm wrong.

Then again, arguing over the minute details of fiction that was there to _entertain_ first and be internally consistent second isn't really my forte. So long as each story is consistent within itself, I can pretty much live with it.

The point is that the Dark Side doesn't leave any visible marks, at least not right away. Palpatine managed to stay hidden for at least 20 years, right in front of the Jedi Council, the most powerful Jedi in the galaxy after all. While it stands to reason that he didn't use the Force much during this time, you must also assume that he is very, very powerful in the ways of the Dark Side. After all, Christopher Lee's character with the dorky name can stand his ground against the Jedi Guru known as Yoda, but is still just considered an apprentice to Palpatine.

Damn, I guess I just came out of the geek closet.

I agree with everything you said, Azael (including the geek closet remark :D). You've made very good points that should settle it once and for all. Besides, nobody is going to play a character nearly as powerful as Vader or Palpatine, and changing the appearance once you cross to the Dark Side is plain stupid.

Now this, I think, should be pretty obvious. When Luke sees Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda at the end of Return of the Jedi, he's seeing their ghosts, which is why they're healthy-looking and glowing.
