If it will be TB - incline
If it will be RTwP - decline

Also, whats wrong with people who spewing bullshit about OwlCat being better developer for BG 3 than Larian? OwlCat wasn't even able to implement properly majority of classes from Pathfinder (yes, I wasted some time on research in Pathfinder ruleset) And they fucking sold one class as DLC, apparently people want future for CRPG where only one class comes with game and others are dlc.
First, if you are going to judge Owlcat by how complete their implementation the pnp is, then all RPGs based on rule sets are condemned, a complete implementation of an PnP system on a cRPG is impossible, what actually matters is if the developer implemented the rules enough to guarantee fun gameplay and Owlcat did just that with Pathfinder.
About the DLC, sure, that is shit but while there is a decent rooster of classes on the base game and they don't go full Paradox, I'm fine with it.

Larian as the choice of WOTC makes me worried because, Larian always made simplistic lite RPG mechanics for their games, the systems on DOS 1 are pretty barebones and in some cases like the loot system, completely atrocious. The thing that saved DOS 1 was the encounter design and the fact the game was TB, what made the game fun despite its limitations. DOS 2 is another beast because the changes Larian did on combat pretty much crippled the game.

I confess I'm not following everything Swen says and maybe he changed his opinion, but from what I saw based on his reactions of criticism after DOS 2 launch, his whole argument was, "we sold 2 million copies so whatever you say is invalid", Swen repeatedly after criticism of the loot system since even DOS 1, insists on the retarded loot system and his whole argument is that Diablo's Diarrhea of useless items sells more copies and unfortunately he might not even be wrong. After the success of DOS 2, it is to be very, very naive to think Swen will stick to a niche market with Baldurs Gate 3 and the danger is the thinking "Hey, we got all those mechanics on DOS 2 and the game sold 2 million of copies, how about we use them on BG 3, making an hybrid of 5e and DOS 2?"

yeah I could not play the first DoS because of the loot system and the combat while turned based was gamey in that barrels of acid and shit were laying all over the god damn world; its like the dues ex machina of game design mechanics. how many barrels of fucking acid can possibly exist, and 400 miles out in the wilderness on some deer trail..why? Its cool for a designed fight or two perhaps, but its like they were so proud of their acid, ice, water, fire barrel shit they included it in nearly every encounter. it felt like playing one of those phone games or castle defense games where they just add random cartoon elements. Which is fine for a free phone game. Like I said, a room with barrels of acid would be a cool thing for a planned encounter, but I was not impressed that the entire game felt designed around the barrels of exploding elements idea.. Then topped off with the most un-creative magical item system that was seemingly designed by the autistic son of bill james, and it was just boring and dull....even the supposed good parts I found over hyped.

Anyway, I have not seen much from Larian that makes me hopeful for what I find enjoyable about D&D. Maybe modern D&D which wants to perhaps be some sort of phone app, but the type of D&D I used to enjoy where magical items might have an entire page long history to explain a simple +1 magical bonus...I have not seen this type of game design from Larian.

Turn-based D&D 3.5 adaptation and I will consider it
Not for a Baldur's Gate sequel; BG1 & 2 were RTw/P—and of course should remain so.... same as InXile's Torment should have done. For a ToEE remaster to not be turn based?, hell no; Fallout sequel (not turn based), hell no. Dragon Age (not RTw/P)? Of course not. Myth The Fallen Lords, of course not. Halo, Homeworld, Ground Control—as turn based?...Absurd. BG3 should by no means deviate that far from BG2... else why give a damn about it?—it wouldn't be a BG game; it'd be yet another impostoring fiat sequel, and we've had too many of those in the last 15 years—it's a wretched trend that even Fargo is complicit in.

*Edit: Although... technically BG1 & 2 actually had individual D&D style attack rounds under the hood; where each character was on their own clock—though irrespective of the other combatants IIRC. But the presentation was wholly intended to seem RTw/P.

Calling it right now

- 5e (WotC will want it)
- RTwP
- full 3D engine, probably devoid of style with plenty of pretty colors
- writing oscillating between average and cringe
- standard BS story about... *drumroll* gods / killing a god
- DM tool (so fans can fix their own game)

The thing that makes the epic scope of BG2 work is the 80 hours of low level adventuring in BG1. The smart thing to do is cap this reset adventure to level 9.

This is like the edge of life and death, alpha and omega. Who will come out victorious?

Turn-based, or Real-time with pause?

Soon we will know what fate awaits us.
