I think the cartoon look is mainly the result of color/lighting, not the models as such.

So is this a 2 in 1 seamless game? Or are they strictly separated? Like, can I use the SR1 spells in 2? I go directly from Morpheus into the past with a cutscene and no change in gameplay at all?

They don't say it either way as far as I can see, but if it's not seamless, I don't really understand why they didn't also remaster Defiance while they're at it, since that basically functions as Soul Reaver 3.

They will probably release a Defiance + Blood Omen 2 collection if this does well enough.

Should have done Blood Omen first. Need that game on Steam.
It is already on GOG; you probably already know that, but if you don't, you do now.

As for a remaster... I agree on principle, but Blood Omen's pixel art looks great to this day and I fear what they'd do to it in an attempt to "modernize" the title. In an ideal world, they'd just touch up the gameplay a bit (let's face it, it's the weakest part of the game) and keep the art style intact, but the odds of something like that happening are low.

I wonder if they have access to higher quality audio for blood omen? The voice acting is good, but the audio quality itself is a bit too compressed I think. The music too actually.

Yeah, absolutely. I wouldn't change a thing about the original game's pixel art. I personally wouldn't even make it smoother. I'm mostly interested in small QOL improvements, achievement integrations and just having it in my Steam library.

Shameless way to get people to pay extra for sucky BO2 then

Remastered trailer looks like total shit.

They removed the grim dark visual aesthetic of Soul Reaver 1 and replaced it with the more cartoon-y look of Soul Reaver 2.

Melchiah was the scariest looking boss in SR1, and he still does a good job of creeping me out with his low-poly design and piercing red eyes 25 years later... The remastered version of Melchiah looks like a generic mob pulled from Diablo III.

I really wish we got the cancelled Dead Sun game instead of this ugly junk.

Man I love the setting/story/narrative in these games, but god how I hate to actually play them.
I usually just rewatch them here and there on youtube, there's "movies" of them. In that regard, soul reaver 1/2 would be considered best. As games I think they're kinda meh.

These games need a remake badly, because compared to something like gothic, that still holds up for me, I sometimes replay them fully. But legacy of kain games? Nope!

Probably the remakes would need to be souls like, I can't really see them doing anything else.
Which is worrying, as it'd be really easy for them to just copy dark souls and not do anything more interesting with it.

Ideally I think they should copy a lot of aspects of dark souls, or better yet, if the budget allows, elden ring, sort of like a open world. And combine soul reaver 1 and 2 together since they were originally meant to be 1.
I'd also like to see a change to the shifting, I always hated how you have to stand on those stupid circles to be able to shift, I found that really annoying and a waste of the mechanic.

Combat I'm not entirely sure what to do with. Probably dark souls, but I've played too many souls games now, so more on the bored side.
I think best would maybe be dark souls combat, but add in a lot more metroidvania elements to it instead of doing weapon upgrades etc... even more metroidvania than the originals.

Yeah, I think an elden ring + metroidvania mix would be good. Start off with remaking blood omen 1 like that as that's the smaller game, and then fine tune it with soul reaver 1/2. Forget blood omen 2, cap it off with defiance, and then if it goes well, do a proper ending sequel.

A man can dream...

The whole Soul Reaver franchise doesn't have shit to do with Dark Souls, it's basically Tomb Raider repackaged as a horror franchise.
