The new SimCity is the best urban-planning simulation ever created.

I bet it's the pirate haters that can't get the game for free, as well as reddit and 4chan trolls. Game's good guys, just like Spore and Societies!

On the topic of citybuilder sims, went to GMG and suddenly saw this: Anno 1404 on a 75% (and a further 20% off with voucher, GMG20-P4DLK-FKYRS) for 3 money units. Pretty nice as city builders go, agreeable price, too. And there's a non-forced, not-always-online, somewhat meaningful (you can start wars between each others) multiplayer, too.

Cities are smaller than the town my parents live in (about 300 people at the last census). What a joke.

Despite the very limiting city sizes, the region concept seems p. cool. At least from what I've seen resource management is a definite incline and many buildings have their own upgrades. The idea that you can have up to 16 people working on common, long term goals is rather neat. In the older Sim Cities you would just build, build until getting bored and then raze it with disasters. I like that there's some kind of purpose now.

Regions and sharing/trading resources aren't a new thing, see Sim City 4 from 2003: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SimCity_4#Regional_gameplay

As far as I know there were even people playing it in "Multiplayer" that way by simply synching/trading a few of the State-files for instance with DropBox and adding to the "map", see here:

All it needed was a asynchronous way to push/pull and merge that data at given intervals depending on how the players want to, e.g. every hour/day/week or whatever. Instead they made it all just worse.

The funny thing is that you can now literally grief in Sim City. Just make a slum and the surrounding online regions from other players will decline as well .

And with this following image I leave you gents to it.
Somebody should make a small internet graveyard, with cute tombstones and epitaphs on flash for every game EA killed, and add another tombstone every year or so. See where it'll get us.

Funny enough, the main obstacle to regional game play in SC4 is the extreme modability of the game. For example, my current plugin folder is 2.13 GB and contains 5,546 files in 1,443 folders (just looked; plus I really have to get the Datpacker going to streamline this). The probability that anyone has the same plugins as I have is pretty much nil, even if you disregard that I changed some of them myself to suit my needs. I guess everyone will agree on the NAM, the RTMT and the bug fixes, but after that, the battle begins.

Hahahaha. Yeah. You guys rock. I mean that in earnest.

Why am I supposed to hate this game? The EA/DRM thing? I'm already a sellout. I play their NHL games.
