So we continue where we left off, in front of the Shrine containing the Pool of Magical Healing Water™!
As we enter, we meet someone:
Hey! Old Man!
Who is this guy?
Dacre is the name! I'm too...
Yes, yes, I heard you. You're off your rocker
Aye, the brain is a wee bit addled from the years. Brain
, shbrain. Ho, ho, ho!
To help the sick people in Kingsport.
No, that's not it.
Something about sick people in Kingsport.
A party? Why, yes, I like parties.
Old man, Dacre, has joined your party!
We don't have much time. We must find that magic pool of water before more people die.
It's a good thing we showed up, Dacre. Your offensive capabilities are minimal - you wouldn't be able to defeat the monsters here in the Water Shrine by yourself.
This old man has a few secrets up his sleeve. Ho ho ho!
Santa for sure.
So we're joined by a new party member, Dacre.
He's a healer, with a wider range of healing spell than both Umi and Paws, two debuff (blind and seal) but no offensive spell. We'll take him in our party and see how it goes.
We can now start exploring the Water
TempleShrine.
We quickly meet the some of the local creep.
We switch Dacre out of the team, replacing him with Paws and Sharpe is replaced by Umi. Having only healing spells, Dacre is not very usefull to kill the random encounters. In that regard, Paws is very usefull for them, since he can apply insanity right at the start of the first turn, ensuring that all our subsequent attacks lands on insane enemies and benefiting from the increase damage.
Finishing combats as quickly as possible is important, since it allows the team to recover more MP (shorter fights = more MP recovered). But on the other hand, his lack of good spells limits his utility for the boss fight, so I'll switch back Dacre in for the final fight.
Sharpe is very good at dealing damage but his limited MP pools makes him less useful for random fights. So I replaced him by Umi, which has decent spells to deal with the randos and a big MP pool. Again for the boss I'll switch back Sharpe in, since he has a better damage capability and we'll have Dacre as a healer.
Or I could use any party, the game is on normal and I've rarely had any problem with the fights (last time was in the ghost forest 3? dungeons ago), especially since I'm doing all the side-content, so I must be a little overleveled. On the other hand, I've tried restarting the game on hard, I got killed on the third fight and abandonned the idea
.
So we cross the first area to this lever. Swtiching lower the water level and opens up new paths.
We continue our progress. The switch will have to be done a few more times before the end of the dungeon.
A few examples of the local monsters.
A good armor for Umi.
Since the bridge are made of wood, they rest on the ground when there's no water, blocking our path.
Rising the water rise the bridges with it, allowing us to progress again.
A new attack, quite strong considering that only a few monsters in this dungeon have more than a 1000 HP.
Dacre gets a defensive buff, but its usefullness would depends if it applies on base stats + equipement or just base stats. And since there's no way to check...
We continue to make our way through the dungeon.
A good sword for Cthulhu.
We find a new weapon for Umi. Except we found the same, like four or five dungeons ago and now it's useless.
After the last switch, we reach the MP refill station, indicating that the boss is next.
After changing our party to the one we intended to use, we get close to a big statue of a mermaid.
I'll just scoop a bit into these water bottles...
Booh!
Ahh!
No!!!
NO ONE lays a finger on my groupie!
The boss is killed very easily. He wasted his first two turns by poisoning everyone, which is countered by Dacre's Regen All spell, which heal the whole party every turn. October applies a debuff and poisons him, Cthulhu and Sharpe unload their most powerful attacks and the shoggoth goes down quickly.
The rest of the party level-up, bringing everyone to level 25.
Here you go.
Cthulhu has saved the day yet again! Cthulhu has gained 100 hero points! But he is not yet a true hero.
Fhtagn! There is no pleasing you!
Also, you have a bit of magic water left over. You have gained 5 potions!
Thank you again for saving me from that awful Shoggoth.
Think nothing of it. I couldn't let my number one fan get shoggothed after all. Besideds, you have a certain Umi-ness to you that I wouldn't be able to find elsewhere.
Thank you!
Methinks Umi's crush may not longer be unrequited.
Shut up, sword man!
I don't know what's happening but I don't care. Onward to adventure!
To the port!
We then go talk around the city:
Well, this city seems filled with teetotalers! We'll get drunk elsewhere then.
Well, I couldn't have done it without my new friends!
Yes! Take that, stereotypical heroes!
We then leave the city for the port and our next adventures!
