The new title screen
We blasted through the 0.22 version, starting on 0.21 and now on 0.23
Buckle up, buckos, this is going to be a heavy one.
New situation in Brazil in the 0.23 playthrough on August 31st, 1936. How I am doing is that I will present the differences between this situation with the older 0.21 playthrough. I will only mention significant changes, so if there is anything I do not mention, consider it as not having changed much from what has been posted before.
We are more or less on the same stage as we were when we were playing on 0.21, but now the world has a little less World Tension (from 9% to 7%) and Brazil has a little less Stability (from 1% to -11%) but more War Support (from 6% to 12%). The rest seems more or less the same.
Now for the major changes in Brazilian military!
Navy
Brazilian navy has been nerfed: A lot less ships. From the 15 ships fleet from before (2 battleships, 2 cruisers, 2 light cruisers and 9 destroyers) to a new fleet with only 12 ships at start (2 battleships, 2 light cruisers and 8 destroyers). We lost 2 cruisers and 1 destroyer, which sucks. But much worse is what happened to the submarine flotilla, where we lost 75% of it (from 4 subs to 1 sub at start). We are going to have to work a lot harder on the navy now.
At least we can recruit different, specialized admirals for the ships and the subs, now that's a silver lining...
Air Force
Instead of 30 fighters we only start with 24 fighters, and all of our close air support (CAS) planes are simply gone. Thus, our air force was also significantly nerfed. That's not the worst part. We have lost access to plane models to build planes with, our planes apparently have been bought from the United States.
The awesome P-26 "Peashooter":
We do not have a Brazilian model to produce more fighters and we can't design a national one because we have zero air experience, so our warplane industry will be on the ground for a while. Instead of producing fighters and CAS planes, we will produce artillery instead.
Have you noticed the missing materials for artillery? That's because artillery needs tungsten as well as steel. So we will adjust our trade accordingly, importing it from the United States.
Note that we are importing steel from the United States as well, same as before.
There we go.
Army
Nothing really changed with the army, at least nothing notable. From the expansion and patches we have a new gameplay mechanic of Field Officers, Brigadier Generals, who are randomly generated:
They are automatically assigned to divisions (not brigades as you'd expect) and you can eventually promote them if you need more generals as they will gain experience and traits with time, provided they are fighting. We won't touch this mechanic in a long while.
Other than that, the military is just the same.
I tried to play the game the same as I did parallel to what I posted before, with a couple changes.
Created an early intelligence agency to spy on Argentina, Chile and the others.
After the Cruiser Renewal focus, I chose the Naval Infrastructure Expansion focus, since eventually we will want to compensate for our nerfed fleet with more earlier production.
Other than that, the repeated playthrough was smooth sailing and we are basically at the same place now in the 0.23.3 version than when we were in the 0.21 version. As an aside, there has been major rebalancing done by Paradox in the military techs and units, mainly planes and tanks but also warships and train guns (lol), for example. Since we never went much into it in the preceding posts, I'll only talk about them when we reach the stage of researching them or otherwise encounter them.
Now, I tried to push countries in paths that they had taken in the earlier playthrough to the end of August, but some of them I either forgot or they made unexpected turns somewhat changing the general state of the world. Nothing major, but some are curious. I will explain in more detail in the spoilers for those interested, as this is getting long enough already.
The first noticeable event happened in White Ruthenia (Belarus) shortly after Black Monday (early February), when the local German puppet government fell to russophobic nationalists in the local army. Interesting.
This one is my fault. I forgot to setup the result of the election in the Union of Britain for the victory of the Federationists/Congregationists and accidentally left it to chance. Now Oswald Mosley and his Maxismists/Totalists won the election. Oh well, I will not restart because of this as I think it will only marginally affect the game.
Now this one I really wasn't expecting. In the first run, Mustafa Kemal (Ataturk) ruled as Grand Vizier apparently without issue until September 1936, but now he has been replaced by the liberal Prince Sabahattin and his agenda of decentralization/privatization. Well, it is intriguing and I will adjust to the random change.
Did this not happen in the first run? Well, it happened this turn. Maybe it's a consequence from the new events in the Ottoman Empire? In any case, poor Persian Shah! He's gone now.
Another upset in Eastern Europe related to the Black Monday economic crisis. The United Baltics are now disunited and we will later see how this will matter for the region.
Another event that I can't remember from the first run, now Republican France has become democratic as opposed to some military dictatorship. I wonder how they will fare now, remember that their challenge is defeating the syndicalists that have taken continental France.
I can't remember who won the Italian socialist election, but this time it was this Guiseppe Romita fellow. Supposedly a moderate.
More events that may interest those with a more asian-oriented mind, but I imagine not very relevant for our LP:
Shout out to fantadomat and whydoibulgar for the last one.
That ends it, those were the more or less important events of the January-August 1936 period. The events I haven't commented on, such as the election of the Pope or coronation of Edward VIII happened exactly as posted before. Also, nothing special changed in South America as far as I've noticed so far.
Next post, the months from September to October, 1936!
