Savage Empire Part 4: Me Tarzan, You Jane
Worlds of Ultima: The Savage Empire
Part 4: Me Tarzan, You Jane
I need release!
Don't worry. We will finally rescue Aiela.
Yay!
I guess this is where the half-naked woman on the cover of the manual comes from.
Here is another dinosaur that kinda looks like a velociraptor.
Anyway, I head back to Topuru to give him the blue stone that he will think holds his mind.
Sure.
You are rewarding me with turtle food?! I'm about to make some more turtle food right here!
Fine. What the hell.
I wonder if this will be important to my quest in some way.
Alright, I brought your 'mind' back to you. Now, spill the beans on the Urali!
Finally I get some straight answers out of this guy.
I now talk to him again because he did not give me the turtle food the first time; I am pretty sure this is a bug.
I now look at my map and go to the only cave that fits the description.
Here are some more potassium nitrate crystals.
I am attacked by some cave bears. They take a chunk of HP, and I am nowhere near a friendly shaman. It looks like Triolo will have to do some field practice. I guess now is a good time to explain the magic system. As you might have guessed, magic does not play a huge role in this game. There are only nine spells to cast, and they seem to be of limited use and none of them are required to beat the game. Unlike the last several games, the Avatar is not the main spell-caster (in fact he cannot use magic at all); Triolo is. He casts spells by using a totem (i.e. skull of an animal or human) of one of the three spirits: Aphazz, Motazz or Heluzz and making an offering of either Chocolatl, Pinde or Yopo. Here is a chart that shows all the spells I can cast.
In this case, I offer Aphazz one pinde, and all injured party members regain 5-10 HP. This is not very helpful, though.
I finally make it to the other side.
I head east across a swamp.
Well, it looks like I am not going that way!
Well, the T-Rex cannot be killed (at least not before it kills me). There are several ways around it. I hear it is possible to have each party member sneak past it one at a time when it's back is turned. I never could manage it, though.
Waitaminute. I just remembered I have been lugging around an extra jug of plachta.
Nighty night!
However, I may have to come back this way, and I don't have anymore plachta, so I will show you the 'intended' way to get around it.
It involves using the turtle food to lure in a turtle for each party member.
We all board a turtle and swim east around the peninsula.
I stop off just around the bend.
Kiss my ass, you overgrown iguana!
I walk east and come across this man.
O...kay. Tell me your name...friend.
Alright. I take it you are the shaman in these parts?
Who is Fabozz?
What, you mean T-Rex a ways back?
Alright, where is Darden? I have a score to settle.
Before I rush off to do that, I decide to scope out the village and get some more intel from the local populace.
What is your name?
What do you do, then?
Tell me about the Urali.
Tell me about the trails.
I am an enemy of Darden.
So that is the best way to rescue his prisoner?
The hot chick! Duh!
Alright, what do you know about Fabozz?
Tell me more about Darden.
I decide to take Wamap's advice and free the statue first. I head north to the edge of the forest.
I am stopped by guards there. They shoot poisoned darts, but apart from that, prove no trouble.
The entrance to the cave where Darden stashed the great Fabozz is northwest of the village slightly to the east of the river.
I head east along the southern edge of the cave.
I have to dispatch a few more guards as well.
Here is the great statue of Fabozz. The problem is it is way too big to haul out of the cave.
Wait a minute! I think I remember someone saying it is powered by light or something.
There are two solutions to this problem.
The first involves using the flash from Jimmy's camera.
The second involves simply igniting a strip of magnesium found in Rafkin's lab. Whatever method is used triggers a cutscene.
With everything done here I head back to the village.
As promised, the guards no longer attack me.
Good for them!
I head south of the village hugging the mountain until I come to a mini-lake.
The cave is to the east. Unfortunately, it is blocked by a waterfall.
Rats!
I head around the lake and find a walkway leading down to some stepping-stones.
Alright!
Unfortunately, one of them is askew, which means I cannot walk across them.
I give up. Let's head back. Poontang is not worth this much trouble.
Sorry, we have to rescue her to beat the game. However, I have another idea.
I use some spare turtle bait and grab me another turtle. If I hug the edges of the river, my party members will somehow be able to follow along.
Yeah! I made it!
While I cannot hop across a diagonal stone, my AI-controlled party members have no trouble. Now, let's enter the cave.
Uh oh! Door guards!
Whew!
I head north.
Here she is!
Oh I'm cumming ... er coming alright.
I open the (unlocked :facepalm door to her cell.
It's onnnnn!
Darden's men do not like him anymore, so it is a pretty one-sided battle.
You got served!
With Darden dead, it is time to talk to our 'honey.'
Who is Elzair? Oh right. That's my name.
What will you do ... besides me?
Oh yeah, those Myrmidex sure are annoying little bastards, aren't they?
What is this about uniting all the tribes?
Okay! Sure!
It is now our job to make a bunch of savage, warring, ethnic tribes unite into some kind of coalition capable of launching a direct assault on the home base (er nest) of insectoid super-warriors ... all because a hot piece of ass asked us to.
Sometimes, Savage Empire is a really realistic game!
Anyway, we have some Choices and Consequences coming up. It turns out that this game has three separate endings depending on whether or not the Avatar romanced Aiela, Tristia or neither. Which path should I take?
