You guys didn't want to play hard ball with Turcov in front of the Archon but now you want to play boss with some trash?
Admitting that's not a trap.

The plotting and scheming has gone so far beyond reasonable that I don't derive any enjoyment from participating in them anymore, but seeing as though there's danger of the herp acheiving their goals, here's my vote.

Just a quick comment, before I go back and study the comments in detail.

The first is that I am not espousing that Anthony starts leading counter-raids into Sabbat territory, nor am I saying that being reactive is not necessary. My concern is that we don't have a firm path ahead to help guide how we react.

The second is that while I was in favor of capturing the shovelheads if it can be done without threat to us if the winning vote is to go chasing after them like some plebe, I would like to change my vote to not attack the shovelheads. (I forget the option).

I suspect that I will also flip in favor of going after mandrake, but I need some time to mull options.

Well, I want to see how horribly wrong this can all go when we get trolled a) by grotsnik's writing of action and b) by how badly this could fuck up the rest of the narrative, just because some people want Sommers to suddenly become He-Man from Castle Greyskull.

I have deliberated...

Those are all good points, but if not now, then when? Do we wait for an opportunity to be courageous? That seems kind of counter-intuitive, all such opportunities will be as risky, if not more, as this one. It's possible that by doing this, we'll have a better insight into this Vogler character, should he deem us best buds and righteous dudes.

You've got me there, man. The whole point of being courageous is doing something that you don't know will end up in being alive. If you knew the outcome, it wouldn't be courageous, now would it?

At the very least, the fact that the Sabbat are so far away from their strongholds in the South and that it is near dawn indicates that it is unlikely to be an organized attempt to ambush and capture/kill Anthony. Think about it: if this were a truly well-executed mission, I doubt they would have bothered to bait us so easily and so close to dawn. In fact, it's downright stupid and a bigger risk for them to attack us because finding safety before the sun's up would be harder for them than it would be for Tony, since we're right next to our home. If the attackers (a) tried to get us by surprise or (b) got here earlier, I could potentially see a well-planned ambush here, but I don't think that's the case. If it were, why attack a Ventrue Baron near dawn while in the middle of Camarilla territory, far from safety? It's a tactically stupid move.

... And if it's a tactically stupid move, I doubt whoever decided it was a good idea was very smart anyways.

Sometimes in life you just need to throw caution and concern and risk analysis to the wind and kick some ass. That is what bravery is. Being a Ventrue doesn't have to mean being a pussy, they once were knights and barons and warriors who lead from the front, sharing in the glory and respect of their loyal men.

You make many good points Esquilax but I simply feel this is a vital moment that will turn Anthony around into a more well-rounded and dignified man. I don't think we can wait forever to do this. Too long and Anthony will become too set in his ways and perhaps even begin to rationalise his cowardice. It's a hidden gift that Anthony recognises and wishes to confront his fear. People obey the Ventrue in the Modern Nights, but fuck all respect them any more and justly so. Anthony could become a man who actually deserves respect.

There's intangibles at play that make a Kindred powerful. We know Anthony's cunning, and that's allowed him to build up his Kine contacts and kill Kindred of more potent blood and greater power than him (i.e. du Marchais and Angelos). On paper, these guys should have wiped the floor with Tony a long time ago. It would definitely nice if he had some balls to go with his brains.

Fuck it, you boys have convinced me. Tie game again.

AA

EDIT: Holy shit, in the moment I posted, two people went for A. My flip-flopping changed nothing, I feel like a BioWare game.

Good. I wouldn't want the responsability of breaking the tie.

I don't like A) because it's a perfect opportunity to get fucked, and because people are talking about courage or some shit, anyone would be brave as fuck with a Gangrel elder and a giant Nosferatu bodyguard going against a handful of shovelheads.

And I don't like C) because Tony might be a monocled Ventrue but he's a vampire before anything, I know I wouldn't take shit from a bunch of sabbat scum right in my goddamn haven.

B) is the best option. Just release the hounds and enjoy the show, but too late I guess.

In before Esquilax tells you a story about a hidden ambush, in which the enemy figured that you would send your muscle alone to the front and stay behind yourself, at which point you will be ambushed, etc...
Its like an Anti Bioware game. The consequences are real, the choices are not...

On a sidenote, I've got to decide who I should vote for to be mayor of our dark and midnight city. Options are...not promising.

A) Camarilla/Conservative: Boris Johnson

BorisJohnson-1.jpg

The incumbent; celebrated television buffoon, Old Etonian, Oxonian, classicist and author of some truly awful ‘satires’ and ‘poetry’. Despite being almost stereotypically Tory and pro-City, he probably gets far less anti-Conservative flak from the Left than any of his fellow party members by 1) having a sort of bumbling, waffly charisma and 2) setting himself up as a kind of lone maverick who challenges the government more often than supporting them, to the extent that he’s sometimes seen as PM Cameron’s biggest rival.

Boris overcame (and partly rode on the back of) claims that he was clownish and the bad press concerning his love of poor-taste jokes, to take the mayoralty back in 2008. Since then he’s been...a little hands-off, at times, which has fuelled accusations that he’s not really interested in London as much as the unique position of independent power that the job offers him. He’s made a few unfortunate cuts to public services, seen through the new cycling network, overseen Olympic preparations (we’ll see how that turns out), and turfed out the repellent head of the Metropolitan Police, who refused to resign after Jean-Charles de Menezes was shot...but seems to have maintained public affection in a left-leaning city, more or less, by being a larger-than-life character. He rescued a young lady from muggers, chasing them down on his bicycle and calling them ‘oiks’, and claims to have wrestled the Prime Minister into the lining of a sofa in order to snatch this year’s budget for the capital from him. Most of his support comes from the outer regions of London - at the moment, it looks like he might win again.

B) Sabbat/Labour: Ken Livingstone
ken-5-1-1.jpg

London’s first mayor, he’s spent almost all of his career politicking in the city and clearly gives a shit about it; positive marks on his record include a lot of work sorting out our messed-up transport network. He’s always been a socialist (‘Red’ Ken, they call him) but in recent years he’s increasingly turned into a crusty leftist demagogue, staunchly anti-Israel, anti-capitalist, cosying up to Hugo Chavez and, memorably, inviting Yusuf al-Qaradawi to a town hall event, and claiming publicly afterwards that ‘almost everything’ the cleric was reported to have said about murdering homosexuals, beating women ‘lightly’ and the Jews deserving the Holocaust had been invented by ex-Mossad agents in the press. Since then he’s been pretty much gunning for the Muslim vote.

Ken was ahead in the polls, but in the past few weeks he’s somehow stumbled into a mindbogglingly stupid public relations disaster, arguing that ‘rich bastards’ who avoid tax shouldn’t be allowed to vote or stand for office; it then transpired that he himself might have been avoiding tax, to the extent of paying just 14%. Ken immediately accused Boris on-air of doing the same thing, who exploded and called him a ‘fucking liar’; Boris later had his finances published, proving that he paid full tax. Ken, however, has not offered up his own full financial details, and is now saying that the whole thing is a ‘distraction’ from the real issues. He’s now eight points behind, and is claiming that if elected, he’ll lower Tube fares, saving Londoners as much as £1000 each.

C)Anarch/Liberal Democrat: Brian Paddick

Brian-Paddick-1.jpg

Once the UK’s senior-most gay policeman, Paddick was a high-ranking member of the Metropolitan Police; he supported the Met’s new policy to quietly ignore cannabis smokers rather than prosecuting them, and spoke out against the bungling of the de Menezes case, which apparently led to him being promoted sideways into a dead-end job. Less impressively, appeared on the shitty reality show ‘I’m A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!’. He’s campaigning for the second time, focusing on stopping knife crime, solving the police force’s many systemic problems, etc.

D) Salubri/Green Party: Jenny Jones
Jenny-Jones-who-will-stan-007-1.jpg

The Green Party are pretty much just the UK’s politically-minded damn hippies who aren’t anarchists. Despite looking like some aging organic gardener from a commune, Jones has worked for years in local government, often heading eco-committee things. Policies seem to veer from the sensible and pragmatic (housing, transport) to the distinctly wacky (shutting down City of London Corp. and replacing it with some kind of democratic organisation that encourages small businesses, lol).

E) Nictuku/British National Party: Carlos Cortiglia

Carlos_Cortiglia-1.jpg

The BNP seem to do this quite often now; despite anti-immigration fervour being the only real thing keeping them afloat, every so often they push forward an immigrant candidate to prove they’re not anti-immigration. So Cortiglia is Spanish/Italian, born in Venezuela, and nobody seems to know anything about him other than that he probably supported Argentina during the Falklands War and now denies it. He writes short articles for a few nationalist e-zines about the imminent collapse of Western civilisation, but they don’t reveal much about his actual policies.

F) Giovanni/UKIP: Lawrence Webb

LawrenceWebb-1-1.jpg

UKIP, whose central policy involves independence from the EU, seem particularly lacking in confidence this year, because they’re not even running under their own party name - Webb, an ex-electrician, is the ‘A Fresh Start For London’ candidate. His manifesto seems to revolve around a) zero tolerance on crime! and b) somehow preventing Europe from influencing how London is run. He does suggest that pubs should be allowed to have smoking rooms, though, which is a decent idea.

G) Ravnos/Independent: Siobhan Benita

siobhan-1.jpg

Ex-civil servant. Never heard of her. Most of the coverage appears to be ignoring her, though a few papers have praised her ‘sensible’ policies. She's releasing her manifesto intermittently, in six separate downloadable fragments, which seems pretty stupid to me. She does have a nice smile, though. Just look at that smile.

H) Malkavians/Monster Raving Looney Party: Chris Dowling?

Loony_Tune_-in_Bradford-1.jpg

The wacky, zany, crazy, deeply unfunny MRLP claims that ‘Chris Dowling’, aka ‘The Human Jukebox’, a musician who once played at the same gig as Rod Stewart, is their mayoral candidate, but their recent silence on the subject suggests that they may not actually have got together enough funds to run. Thank fuck for that.

B, Red Ken.

I've always had a soft spot for Livingstone, and his politics are solid-not quite of the same pedigree as Tony Benn-but having Ken in office would neatly balance out the horrendous Tory power hard-on.
