Greetings.

Some of you might know me from the Elder Scrolls forums; under the name "Beast_Slayer" (the guy with the Elrond/Agent Smith avatar), i've seen combat in a number of different threads on many issues. However, we brave few have been fighting a losing battle. The latest battlegrounds have been threads on Spears, Melee Staves and the GPS Quest Compass, to name only a few. I've kept up the fight bravely...but no more. There was a time when a lengthy refutation could keep those ravenous n00bs at bay,but there are simply just too many now...to quote Joseph Stalin in a C&C Red Alert cutscene; "No matter how many we kill...THEY JUST KEEP COMING!!!!!!"
I think it must now be time to abandon ESF to its fate. The war is over. The fanboys have won.

Not long ago though i started to hear tales of the promised land. A land where you really do have the freedom to say "STFU n00b", a land where anything is possible - a land where dreams come true. That place, my friends, is the Codex...

And it is here where we all must flee...

Not another one! :x

Who is responsible for all the TES fanboys coming here?
Vault Dweller because of his "extensive" (the word is much too weak but I cannot think of a better one) Oblivion coverage? The Bethesda devs that post here? I do not know but someone has to die!

The quality standard around here has been going downhill ever since all those real-time rugrats arrived. Often I open a thread just to find out that it doesn't contain a single graphic depiction of gay sex or at least some grave personal insults or a tubgirl!

Something needs to be done...

Well most of them might go away when the game's out.
They will still post, but mostly they will go to Oblivion General and Oblivion Cheats, Hints & Spoilers. Those have less touchy subjects.

The Lore Discussion will stay pretty clear of them, as it always has.

Anyhow, I feel the fanboys aren't completely at fault. I feel some of the critics/complainers might have been at fault as well. Some of them began spewing out one-liners at a remarkable rate when they heard bad news. Imho, you shouldn't do that where fanboyism is right around the corner.
My theory is that it created (or strengthened) a pavlov reaction amongst the fanboys. They used to react milder to critisism, because critisism usually didn't contain a lot one-liners. They were brought forward in a gentle manner.
Now the amount of one-liner critisism have also increased resulting in even more one-liner fanboy responses. And I think these fanboys just had to read through to much one-liner critisisms they just couldn't handle it and they just snapped and became total fanboys.
Now a thread just needs a title that's a touchy subject to become a flamefest. A good example is the "bouncy boobs" thread by Qarl2 (space ghost avatar). It was a good thread about realistic animations regarding clothing, hair, etc. But the amount of people just reading the title has become enormous, resulting in a flame war.

I know the fanboys are definately at fault with these events, but the critics shouldn't have let them be drawn into this vicious cyle.

He's not a fanboy.
So chill.

And who's to blame?
Well you might be right that MSFD and VD were factors in them coming here. You're definately on to something. Though it's a joined venture.
MSFD was my reason.

This thread might also be responsible for Oblivion people coming here:

This one definately is a reason people from Oblivion came here. Maybe a good thing MSFD closed it...

While browsing the TES forum I also found this thread by Yipsl. Has a lot of relavance to the "discussion" at hand, so I'll just post it. Really lengthy post though.

Good stuff, TES retards are so damn funny. Let us see what they say about the Codex:

Could you supply a link to this place. Id like to have a word with them. TES is probably the best rpg series for so many reasons. Its big, the graphics are always good for their time, its open ended etc... THese things should please everyone.
No dont try to.Its like trying to tell an Al-Quada member why they shouldnt hate America and its allies. It just isnt possible.

Maybe that used to be the case since the number of noobs wasn't that big.

Going Xenophobe on them would have been enough to scare them away.

Now the forum elite(maybe better represented by this) needs to find new allies to defend against the fanboys.

So you need to get the Rottweiler puppys to become "big dogs" or other strong forum participants.

In case any of you are wondering as the reason why I'm posting this, it is because I'm a compulsive eagle scout. Even though I'm a bit of afanboy. I'm just an advocate of forum diversity, that's all. There allready is a TES-forum. I have no intent on creating another TES-forum.

Could be I'm just an imposter. Well maybe I am, but if I am. Then, of course,I am not going to tell you. ;)

In the core he's right though, but you could just as easily shift "RPG Codex" in this sentance with TES-forums.
That's because if you only look at the Ideological distance, then you're absolutely right.

Another site quote from flamewarriors:
Ideologue.

Well I think TES fans meet with XBox fanboys.

The TES series is being turn into a action RPG lite to appeal the Xbox user base, the risks is they alienate their core user base (TES) in favor of a user base that simply lacks the atention span to dedicates to a game gender.

Its sad but its Bethsoft chosen direction, perhaps TES:Fallout will blow on the face (and quite frankly F:BoS is a indication of that) and make then re-think their design direction.

I think we've had enough internet warrior links for one thread, don't you think so too, M'aiq?

Nutcracker has a point in one respect: that the blinkered reaction of the fanboys has become increasing vitriolic towards anyone who dares to hold an opinion that's different to the accepted "OMFG OBLIVION RULEZ!!11!!!" mindset.

It doesn't matter how eloquent or logical your argument, it's the same merry-go-round of replies all the time and there comes a point when the nth repetition of the same responses gets so boring that a change of scenery becomes necessary.

Although I do have to say, anyone coming here from the official forums who's expecting an easy ride will quickly be disabused of that notion :D

It all raises a logical question: why would anyone want to try to convince the fanbois over there at the official boards? And, in general, why would anyone want to convince someone else, if the question is in *taste*? This is pointless. MOreover, why would anyone want to preach againt the game when it isn't even released yet?

The problem is, that you don't actually need to try to convince them of anything. Just holding a different opinion is enough if you post it.

Its weird. They ridicule Morrowind and Oblivion for being fp and basicly a hack-n-slash but fallout is a fps and shooting a gun is the same thing a mindlessly hacking with a sword.

from that thread:

Some people just don't seem to realise that acronyms actually stand for specific words, or at least, they don't bother to find out what they stand for.

Hmm... may I ask what you hoped to accomplish at the TES forums? Because if you were trying to have an intelligent discussion about a feature of the game, you should ignore those who are mindlessly for it as well as those who are mindlessly against it.
