It is a puzzling sight, for certain. Was this supposed to be the trial? It seemed... rather easy, compared to what you had encountered.
We didn't have a proper trial, though. We were yoinked out of the dream straight to the Chief Doge kennels.

Okay, so the questions to answer are:
* what kind of story is this? what's the challenge?
* is Sophie in full control of her mental faculties, or is she acting out her role?
* is there a role assigned to us by the narration, or are we a wild card?

Sophie is acting as a bride, or at least a belle of the ball, but in reality she is about 12 years old. Could she be assigned a role, and if so, is the challenge to break her out of it?
How do the guests see us? Do they see a disfigured brat, or does narration give us a role of our own now that we are here?

The challenge is normally supposed to be taken solo, so I think we should keep a low profile until we get a better understanding of what is going on.

...I suppose we could make our presence known to Sophie and see if she recognizes us (how she reacts in general would clear some things up), but I think we'd work better from the sidelines.
I might yet flop to D.

A bride? Who's the groom, Andrew? A prince?
Wait, are we here to disrupt the wedding?
Of course we are.

She’s waiting for a bad boy to break the through the glass and beat Andrew’s ass.

I know that you are trolling at least in part, but I'll still point out that she seems to be having the time of her life, and that disruptive behavior might be detrimental to getting her to cooperate with whatever we'll be planning.

FYI, guys, in the new draft, Sophie is right in front of us.

So, D has less romantic appeal for me.

That’s why I’m sticking will balls to the wall glass breaking.

Time of her life?

She’s in a dream.

It’s up to us to wake her.

And the most important question: how can we best help her succeed in this trial? We know nothing of what's supposed to happen. so yeah,. let's keep a low profile.

But if the goal is to get her to snap out of it, then being disruptive may be the best approach.

Getting cut by the glass and bleeding out in front of Sophie? Not our style, man.

We’re not going to bleed out. It’s a dream. Besides, we have our shield astra.

Only question is how best to wake her. Cause a ruckus or declass all other suitors?
Nah. We seduce all the bridesmaids.

:smug:
Yeah with our burned face and our charisma level of 3.

We’re not a man of words, we’re a man of action. (Well, a child of action...you get my point.)

If you guys want to sneak, that’s fine, but get the James Bond bullshit out of your head because we’re just not built that way.

And then have an orgy in the ball room. That indecency will surely snap her out of it!
And the best part? None of this is our fault, since this is Sophie's imagination. We get to do our job while trolling and scarring her for life.

With a charisma of 3, the more likely result is us standing in a corner and wishing we had just broken in.

Honestly, you guys get lost in your own fantasies of what might happen too quickly. We’re not even past the first page of discussion and you’re already thinking there’s going to be an orgy.

I see you are hoping to get a brown wedding moment of hilarity. Why not actually hope we get a "brown ball" moment? maybe we will find laxatives up stairs? That will make for much better shock to break her out of the dream.

This is more realistic, though we don’t actually know laxatives will be there.

It is a dream though...

Alas, I don't think it's on the menu:
The opportunity for something like a Brown Wedding comes only once in a lifetime.

...dude, Orbit and I are fucking around. What is it like, living life without a sense of humor?

Jane Austen novels, which is what Sophie's dream is likely based off of, are PG-13 bodice-rippers. Orgies aren't even on the menu.

Probably, but I'd like to point out that our dream with Uridimmu ended on its own. So maybe the point is to do something before the dream concludes.

And seeing how the challenges are normally completed solo (and we only got to invade another's courtesy of DEMONZ), and it is her dream, it is likely that she needs to be the one to undertake the action that would either take us out or fulfill the conditions.

In which case blatant opposition to the dream narrative would only see us kicked out as a foreign body, and not much else.

I am recalling similar dream sequences from EPIC (where not going along with mini-me failed the win condition and doomed Earth) and Spiral (where total acceptance or total rejection of the dream were game ending states). The latter is a good example, actually - we knew it was a dream, but had to act as if it were real because we weren't in control of leaving it.

Or maybe yo never wake up if you keep dreaming.

Uridimmu said the ritual was ending, so why is her dream continuing?

Also, keep in mind that our dream was NOT the ritual as it was meant to happen.

We are in the "dreamlands" as we were with him though, so there may be interactions with with her astra, but we don't know that they are some sort o requirement for the ritual to end.

That's a fair point.

I'm not sure that breaking the glass would do that though.

It's still in keeping with the setting of a romance novel, only it plays into the role of a badboy rather than the role of some cuck who's constantly made a fool of by those in higher society.

Are we even supposed to act in this trial, though? I'm 100% with Nevill on keeping a low profile before taking rash action.

He said that our test was ending, he said nothing of Sophie's:
Your ritual is about to end, little human child.

I don't know, the more I think about it, the more I think you have a good point, Nevill.

Cautiously flopping to D > B for now.

Oh no, no, that was not what I was implying.

But I see it as a bold, outrageous act... sort of what going around naked upon our arrival to the dream level in Spiral would be like. Where that would have landed us? In dream prison, that's where, because the dream was following its own logic, and we were meant to tackle it in a different way, and different time and place.

So I would not, for example, dismiss concerns like getting cut and bleeding from glass shards, because the dream logic might be holding sway here. It won't harm us upon awakening, but it might impede our actions within the dream.

We should act as if it were real until we are sure what thread we need to tug to unwind it, is my take.
