I still hope for the 0,0013% chance that this epic mindblowing thing is KOTOR3. then again, I wouldn't mind Obsidian doing it...

Maybe it is a game for the PS3 or a game for the Nintendo DS. Bioware have said that they wouldn't mind making a game for the PS3. Bioware normally uses licensed products to break into new markets. (spotted in a thread in the bioware forums, I think).

Or it could be the much remoured KOTOR MMO...

"I you succeed at making a RPG company, sell out to EA..."

"If you succeed at making a single player game franchise,..."

I bet Bioware could continue this endlessly.

I have to say Guild Wars Spoiled me in the Online Role Playing Genre.
I am not too sure if Guildwars is an MMO since the WoW users criticize it for being too instanced, not having proper Guild Halls, market places, animals to ride, lvls beyond 20 and lacking the ability to totally "pwn" people in PvP with just uber weapons and armor/skills, but despite all this i still say you can't go wrong with no monthly fee.
Now if the Kotor MMO (if that is what they are working on) could or would copy guildwars in the no monthly fee thing they could sweep WoW but i don't see that happening EA will want to make as much as they can so monthly fees will stay.
If it is the MMO i see it being a games for windows/360 thing tied to vista, allowing Xbox 360 and Vista users to quest together in the Kotor setting, how this would play out in a gamepad vs mouse and PC world would be interesting to see.
Also while theres a big chunck of SW history to chose from for Kotor (once its before the prequels etc) i am just not feeling it as an MMO.

Crystal Ball says KOTOR:MMORPG most likely.

KOTOR3 would be preferable in my book...but I won't hold my breath.

Anything else is a complete pipe dream.

Surprised they couldn't fit EA in there somewhere ala www.EAbiowarelucasarts.com, mind you I guess EA and Lucasarts are already pretty close (EA distribute Lucasarts stuff here in Australia, in any case).

This has to be KOTRO. A mere KOTOR3 would not merrit a whole new website like this. The KOTRO rumours were recently resparked (saw a newspost at the watch about IIRC) this makes it look almost certain.

I don't view this as a bad thing. KOTOR, while being quite a fun game, was mostly not the greatest RPG. KOTOR is a good setting for an MMO for a few reasons: first, everyone can be a Jedi or a Sith and it doesn't ruin the game world, the galaxy was crawling with Jedi circa KOTOR1; second: there are The Jedi and The Sith, much like there are The Horde and The Alliance in WoW.

We're not losing a great RPG franchise or anything here, I don't think we're losing anything. There's no particular reason why they couldn't make KOTRO have as good of a story, and have as many 'choices' as KOTOR1 did anyway. If you happen to kind of like MMOs, and I'd prefer a good MMO to a shitty RPG, this could be a decent one. Especially if we can play as Sith and go out ganking all the Alliance Kidies, *cough* Jedi Kiddies. Not so invincible now BEYOTCH!

The Codex could register the domain and redirect it here.

I like the way they think. KotOR 1 and KotOR 2 sold well and are famous. What do we do? Turn it in to a genre that costs 10 times to make and has 10 times the competition! Yay!

But gives 10 times the cash. $14.99 a month from millions of subscribers? You know only a tiny fraction of that goes to maintenance and upgrades, a little more to wages. Lucasarts will be laughing and carrying the rest of the cash all the way to the bank.

If it succeeds. The last one failed. There are MMOGs announced on every corner and most of them die before even being released.

At last, Monkey Island MMORPG is coming!

Everything but Monkey Island! Please!

Seriously though, the MMO market is extremely crowded already, as far as I'm concerned. Why anyone would wish to take the risk of making yet another one is beyond me.

This is good news indeed...or it would be, if Lucas arts didn't sell there old funny, clever, and funny adventuring ways. Now a days, Lucasarts barly sell games that are funny, and rely more on the milking of teh Star wars cow...besides, this is the same publisher that gave us an incomplete KOTOR 2.

As for Bioware? No comment, because I have yet to finish more than one Bioware RPG.

EDIT: Bioware have been whoring themselves to everybody this year. First Pandemic, then EA, now Lucas arts...do they want world domination or something?

I dunno about an MMO, bioware has a lot on their plate right now maybe. If dragon age is still in the works then that will take a big chunk of resources if it hasn't already and then you got that sonic rpg which isn't that huge of a project but would still require some more resources. You also got the mass effect triligy thing if that still goes through which is a big IF. To make an mmorpg you have to spend a very large ammount of resources to work on it, even with the EA buyout and its cash inflow you still need the employees at bioware.

If it is an mmorpg it probably won't materialize atleast for a long time. I don't know.

Nah.

BIO has nearly 300 employees in Edmonton alone plus whatever they have in Austin, Texas which are solely fixated on the MMORPG.

Most dev companies have much less employees than BIO and can do 1-2 games. i think BIO can manage more games than the tiny peons beneath them.

Duh. that's why they started an whole new MMORPG focused division, and did mass hiring for it.

Wow. I actually thought the URL was a joke and was about to suggest someone register it and make it redirect to the Codex.
