Posted a bunch of SSI games up on ebay tonight as well as a few gems I was inspired by felipepepe to hunt down based on his "Click-bait" articles.
I have reading the Codex for that.Collect rage and butthurt.
You should start gathering your new collection soon, because you'll need it for your daughter's dowry :D
A combination of all those things you listed plus contacting people directly that I've met through various websites over the years. Ebay, though many times way over priced, has always been my main source. If you look long enough you'll find good deals with sellers putting up items they have no clue what their actual value is. This is how I originally bought the Icewind Dale II Collector's Edition for $9.99 (and just sold it a few weeks ago for $400). Another good reason to use ebay is you can see actual photos of the item being bought. That is the main drawback to going on Amazon or other similar "storefront" type sites as they usually only have stock photos of the items. I rarely buy anything without a picture to ensure that the condition is what's stated and it has all the parts/ components that originally came with it unless there is a very thorough description. I also make sure to always contact the seller directly to make sure any game is sent in a sturdy cardboard box. That is such a huge problem with so many sellers shipping these classics in flimsy mailers causing them to arrive crushed and essentially worthless to a collector. Overall, it's really just a patience game where it takes time to stumble and find the really good deals out there. Of course there have been many occasions where I have overpaid for an item just because I had to have it!!mindx2
Do you mostly scavenge the net to collect? Ebay, amazon? Got any tips on finding big boxes fairly cheap? Any traps to avoid?
