Well, in DCS and other sims you can define curves which should be pretty easy to optimize deadzone. I have actually done some incredible things with it. Especially the Spitfire became only flyable by a very special curve (before that it wanted to go out of control every time I moved the stick, it was ridiculous). But don't ask me what I'd have to look it up. Some people use stick extensions, that's no joke.

Oh, and Falcon BMS is ball-bustingly difficult just to take-off with a learning curve the size of the 50 foot woman's vagina in that B movie from the 50s. Christ, I don't remember flight sims being this difficult on my old C64.

Maybe it's laden. Otherwise jet's really should not be hard to take off.

The L-39 has now officially becoming my favorite plane in the game.

DCS_2018_03_01_21_37_17_51.jpg

And Caucasus.

DCS_2018_03_02_08_44_17_22.jpg

I also found time to fly into the mountains, in all their high resolution mesh glory.

There are many things that sets this map apart - it's big and there is actually a lot of change. Not at all like Normandy where you see the whole time just retarded treerows (did I mention that Normandy does not support SpeedTree by the way? Quite a bummer if you ask me, and another case that most 3rd party are not worth the money).

DCS_2018_03_01_21_57_19_14.jpg

And who would've thought with this plane I now do proper landing without problems ...

The Persian Gulf map is going to be release in the next weeks. I will probably not get it right away, I have enough scenarios to fly already.

But they say they have included a lot of terrain in Iran as well as huge water areas so this could become very popular as a combat theatre. I thought Dubai with the micky mouse architecture was stupid, but seeing smoke clouds or night illuminations over desert installations is somehow irresistible.

I just hope they also give the good guys some modern planes - ie the Mig 29 still needs a FM update - cause I am not going to fly the popamole US planes.

There are quite a few announced projects coming up recently.

P-47 is now allegedly done without the original wind tunnel data that was destroyed when Republic closed (it was imo pretty silly to delay an airplane because of this, and the data of any scale model would do).

Afghanistan and Syria maps were mentioned quite often, actually I'm interested in them but the Normandy crap was a big lesson.

I would normally also be excited about the just announced Falkland map if this were not so incredibly silly and unlikely.
If you dont understand what I mean they "already" have posted 3 pictures, 2 of ships and 1 of a house. What can go wrong? release imminent! :bounce:

A house a house!! and it looks so Falklandesque!!! Just add a Ford Escort and I can already see myself there, eating eggs and toast every morning with Maggie Thatcher on the radio.

( .. it is a joke, they should no release info when they have so little, it is hugely embarassing)

Anyone here played the B.A.T. mod for IL2 - 1946? I haven't played IL2 in years since my joystick broke and I haven't bought a replacement. Supposedly it's this huge modpack that compiles all the custom content that's been released (planes, maps, campaigns, skins, etc.) and divides them into eras, starting from WW1 to the Jet Age in Cold War. It's pretty big (torrent file is 50GB) and I'm meaning to scratch that Flight Sim itch that I've been having and want to know if it's worth all that effort to get it working.

I want to play with this so badly. Unfortunately my old rig can't handle DCS, so first I have to upgrade this piece of shit. Although by the time this comes out of Early Access, I will probably have something better.

Eagle Dynamics have also sent me some screenshots of a new Focke Wulf Fw 190 A-8

A is Anton! not the ugly, weird contraption with the bomber plant (D) but the sleek fighter that Kurt Tank had originally created

This thread is still in General Gaming? Idiotic.

Anyway, today is last chance to get some planes in sale, often at 50% discount.

I just got Yak-52 for 20$ and L-39 training Campaign for 5$. Those are serious discounts.

Already in love with Yak, seeing this is from flight student perspective, this should be everyone's first plane and NOT Messerschmitt or Spitfire which - at least in this game - only a veteran can start and land.

Even though I can start and -sometimes- land a Messerschmitt now (usually with heavy damage) I'm not ashamed to say that I will start over and move from the Yak-52 up to the L-39, Mig 15 before I think about other planes.

This is also the point where, at least from a Soviet/Russian perspective the game finally makes sense now.

>the Crimea/Caucasus terrain is fully upgraded to the latest standards and looks amazing
>the Yak-52 is the perfect novice aircraft to begin training
>the L-39 is the logical step to jets, and has a full training campaign now
>there are other planes that are ideal for novices, notably the Mig-15

So if you are like me mostly interested in a realistic peacetime pilot campaign over Crimea with correct planes there is really nothing to stop you.

The Fw 190-A8 is also in very active development, it looks like it will come out some time in 2019.

Extremely hyped about this as it's always been one of my favorite planes (not the long nose Dora). there is also a good chance they will correct their mistakes with WW2 planes and get this one right.

DCS 2.5 is now so good I want to make sex with it.

I spent several hours in the Yak and it finally feels like learning to fly (and finally a plane that even I can land without problems). The graphic artifacts (more patterns) see m to have been fixed too, which is especially satisfying as I thought it would never happen.

The only negative things I can say is that some modules are increasingly broken (the Mig21 cockpit looks like a turd now) and Normandy still doesnt blow me away either, but then the new Caucasus more than makes up for it.

Here is a video from X-Plane 11 which also makes me want to own this.

I guess they don't give this away for free, half of Britain is not complete ("TrueEarth Great Britain South") and eventually you end up paying for a shitton of downloads and transactions. But it looks impressive.

I have many hours in the A-10C, Super Hornet and Harrier. The mission editor is also excellent. At this point I would say only systems depth and ground radar keep it from being GOAT.

What is your opinion on the Harrier? I am sort of intrigued to get one more Western plane, but cannot make up my mind.

Just a little nitpick, DCS does not have the Super Hornet. The Super Hornet is the F18 E and F variant, DCS has the F18C (Hornet).

The Harrier is well worth the cost. Most systems are functional and updates seem to be coming at a reasonable pace. There was an issue with negative Gs breaking wings that was annoying but that has been addressed. Sorties at night are a lot of fun and challenging.

the combined DLCs are ~ 1,600 Euro and no one needs or has the time to fly all those aircraft with with all the complexity.

I personally waited for sales and spent maybe 200 Euro for 7 planes and 2 maps, which is absolutely ok for the simulation I got.

If you want to play War Thunder then go play War Thunder.

Because simulationists are a special type of autistic whale that will buy content for your game for 2 decades straight check out the total cost on this one https://store.steampowered.com/app/24010/Train_Simulator_2019/

Basically the only game that can outdo that is Star Citizen and that is doing it by selling a dream not actual content.

That's not really the case with Star Citizen anymore. It's still Alpha but what is there is pretty incredible.

Oh, and DCS with several modules and maps is also quite expensive.

Speaking of DLC, it is very important to have a plan in your head what you actually want to fly instead of expecting that it is required or makes sense to buy everything.

Here is my list of what I actually got and currently and with which have my hands full training

a basic training aircraft - Yak 52 goes for 20$ on sale
a Jet trainer - L-39 - 30$
second / third generation jet fighters (I personally fly the Mig-15 and will also plane to buy the 19. the 21 is abandonware, not recommended) - 30$ sale price
a modern jet fighter of your choice (various popamol planes at your disposal) F14 looks pretty cool
WW2 planes, Mustang is easiest, Spitfire is currently sexiest (but virtually impossible to start and land), 109 is also nice - 30$

If you only consider sale prices, ca 100-150$ you get your planeset plus maybe one of the maps (Normandy kind of sucks. Nevada is ok but boring -> I would stick with Caucasus case its free).

Considering that I spent 10 times more on aircraft model kits that I never built, this is actually a very affordable sim. A good hotas joystick + rudder is already ~300-500$ and much more of a problem if you don't use it than a sim that you can gradually expand with modules.

I have the F18, Blackshark, Harrier and Su33. I use the free map. Like you I don't find the others compelling.

Nevada is allright, it's an actual testing area and desert is easy to model.

But Normandy, I dont know what I expected but to me it looks like a scale model in which an autist planted 100 million trees in neat lines. I mean there are a lot of treerows in Normandy but it is all too damn straight and uniform it reeks of someone being too smart and thinking he can leave all the work to prodecural generation.
