Thanks, again, Fowyr. I just bought Wizardry 6-8. The parts about character customization and black humor are what ultimately sold me on it. I figure it will be a better purchase than Euro Truck Simulator, some waifu game popular with weebs now, or whatever else is on sale now. Although a Euro Waifu Simulator would be interesting... :obviously: I'm happy to hear that Might and Magic 1-6 are the best ones from that series though, considering they're the cheapest. I may get them too, at some point.

One thing I noticed immediately is that from Wizardry 6-8, the filesize of the games increase dramatically with each installment. My internet sucks ass, so I couldn't start with 8 even if I wanted to. I think I'll start with 6, after I finish writing this post.

Nah, balancing should just fix too cheesy things - like non resistable free spell that can damage for 1500 HP and could be used every round.
Thread that I linked talks a lot about balancing.
For me, Grimoire's flaws were that some spells and items are not working and stacking is complete joke. Though, it's small complaint comparing to the awesomeness that is Grimwah.
Weird how it has mixed reviews, but to be honest I'm rather more inclined to trust folks here than the ones on Steam at this point. Steam reviews are never perfect, but the ones on this game seem particularly bad for some reason, now that I'm actually reading them. Check this out:

..I have waited for over a month now and there is still no maneul. At best this is early access...
He wants early freaking access. On a game that was in development for over 20 years. He's either an elf IRL or just clueless. Also, what the shit is a "maneul"?

Then there's a bunch of others complaining about things like lack of polish and lack of a manual. I even found one guy who thinks Cleve is a Nazi.
Update 9/17/1: I just got banned from the Grimoire Steam forum for "General undesirability". Seig Heil, Herr Blakemore! Dissent shall be crushed with a limp, pasty fist!
He couldn't even spell Sieg Heil properly. I don't use Steam forums, but good riddance anyway.

I realize now that I'm getting seriously off-topic. I hope nobody minds that this is basically the "Dakka rediscovers classic RPGs" thread now.

Grimoire's Steam reviews are complete joke. Top negative review talks about
For starters, the interface is clunky, unintuitive, a8nd poorly designed. Let's say you're in battle and want to cast a spell. For one character to do so, you must click one button four times, click the spell button once, and then select the spell. Oh, you want to move back to a physical attack? Click another button four 8times, then click attack.
Just press right mouse button, dude. I found it after 15 minutes of playing.

Most of these people probably never played Wiz7 or even any old cRPG in their life. If you will like Wiz7 - 95% that you will love Grimoire too.

Also, what the shit is a "maneul"?
Cousin of manul, probably, :M

He is probably Codexer. Cleve is a walking proverb and a byword now, the living meme. There is always some trolling and counter-trolling around him. Cleve is brilliant, just don't be surprised when he starts ranting about Neanderthals, KWAnzania and machete rape gangs. This is just how Cleve goes.

Nope, surely I'm fine with it. Just don't attract people from Grimoire thread.

It's so cute!

So I briefly played Wizardry 6 & 7. For 6, I made a party based on myself, 4 of the coolest guys and girls I know personally, and my president because MAGA. I forgot to equip my party and got slaughtered by the first bandit group I saw. Guess they were Hillary supporters. I tried again, this time equipping my party first, killed some bandits, then I got slaughtered by some living vines/tentacle thing after wandering a bit too far. It definitely deserves a second look, after I've come up with a better party setup and strategy. Seems quite difficult, but every victory feels genuine. Reminds me of Mordor. Hopefully there is a way to raise dead characters like I could in Mordor, or else I may have to get used to save scumming.

As for 7, well... I can already tell that it is one hell of a game. I start the game expecting all the usual fantasy RPG trappings, and all of a sudden some robed man with a see-through scalp and a robotic brain starts talking to me about events of cosmic significance, some universe destroying calamity, an evil spaceship that looks a bit an Imperial Star Destroyer if it was built by the orcs from Warcraft II, and some all-conquering wizard called the Dark Savant, who I wouldn't mind playing as honestly. Robot brain man says he wants me to go to a mysterious hidden planet with him. Kinda creepy, but okay. This time around, I couldn't figure out how to equip my party at all, although I did survive a couple encounters anyway. The Bard I brought along just for laughs helped out a lot more than I expected; somehow, her songs put alien monsters to sleep. The world building seems very interesting in 7 though, if a tad in-your-face about it. I'll come back to this one after I've played through 6, I think.

I figured he was some weird kind of Glenn Beck style conservative. I'm certainly no stranger to shitposting. It just took me by surprise at first. I generally don't care about the politics of the people who make the games I play, as long as they don't let politics affect the game and aren't SJWs.

I'll try not to. Do I need to ward them off with insect repellent, or crosses? :P

Sounds like Wizardry.

There are the methods to raise dead characters, and you should get one of them soon, but better get used to the save scumming.

Check manuals for both games. It was selecting item and pressing E for Wiz7 Gold, I think. can't remember now.

Bard is very useful in the early game both in Wiz6 and Wiz7.

:bunkertime: is the best way.

Good to know. I'll check out the manuals at some point.

On another note, I hate the Quest Master in Mordor so very much. I wish I could throw his lazy ass into the dungeon so HE can go hunting for that stupidly rare and insignificant "Rowdy" monster.

Yeah, the quest system in Mordor is a bit annoying, especially when you're supposed to hunt down a monster, remember killing it all the time, but when you actually need it its nowhere to be found

The Seer is useless, unsurprisingly. I ended up just forfeiting the quest. I lost a couple of Nomad levels on my lovely warrior lady, but she earns experience pretty quickly from being at the front of all combat, so it hardly matters. Levelling up the sorcerer dude is even faster when the party encounters large groups of enemies he can blast with a spell. I'm hoping to raise his dexterity enough to use an electric spell so I can imagine him cackling and saying "unlimited powah!" as he commits mass slaughter against slaves and filthy sea creatures.

Curiously, fully mapping out this room seems to require me to move to a known pit square and take damage, even though I know there are just walls there. At least it's not hidden behind a door like the other pits to its left...

Also, just my luck, I find a fucking Rowdy not long after I forfeited the quest. He looks like a rejected Dragon Ball Z character.
