Female guest character would be either Zatanna, Xena - Warrior Princes, Kefla or Cruella De Mon.

Xena would be like Sheeva, though. I've never actually liked Zatanna, she's not bad or anything but I find her kind of like ...just there, you know? No idea who Kefla is. I guess my vote is for Cruella.

Enenra is supposed to be their new edgy name for Smoke, right? Seems weird to have Sektor and no Cyrax.

Rest of it looks like shit so it's probably true. When will we have Hulk Hogan as Mr. Nanny?

This leak could be real. Some earlier leaks had shitty WIP character models as well. If this is for real we will actually get... Xena warrior princess. And Smoke, Takeda and Havik. To be announced in a few weeks I guess.

Jesus Christ lmao

Well, at least there's Smoke to make this game 25% less shit in terms of roster.

I was JOKING about Xena as well with Kefla and others... WTF!!!!

But Havik and Smoke is worth to one slot being wasted, Takeda is shit but so was Cassie Cage in MKX and they made her brilliant in MK11 so... I'll give that fucker a second chance.

Havik and Smoke are pretty ok, I've never been a fan of guest characters so I'm ambivalent towards Xena. Takeda is one of the nu-cast and they are pretty much universally bland with the exception of D'Vorah. I'm waiting for Mileena and having fun playing her in MKX and 9. I might consider buying 11 if she's in it. Sindel + Mileena is too enticing of an allure to resist. Sindel missing a projectile in 11 seems to handicap her a lot though. I hope they lean into the whole priest of chaos thing with Havik, he might turn out interesting too.

News is a couple weeks old now, but didn't see it on here, sounds like NetherRealm Studios could lose Mortal Kombat. Apparently AT&T is looking to sell off WB Interactive; but just the studios, they'll be keeping the IPs. If it happens they might just license the rights to whoever buys them, but it also means other studios could come along and do that too.

I used to. Back when Soul Calibur 2 came out (2003 I think?) and each console had its own guest fighter, I thought that was pretty sick. The problem was that the idea took hold big time and now most fighting games are so loaded with guests and crossovers that it's both completely played out and the various fighting games feel almost indistinguishable from each other.

Do people actually like guest characters?

It depends on wether or not it is done in good taste. Akira in Dead or Alive? Good. Geese Howard on Tekken? Great. Geralt in Soul Calibur? Alright I guess.

Now, Tegan in Tekken? Joker in Mortal Kombat? Fucking Yoda in Soul Calibur?

These are all very retarded ideas with guest characters who don't fit neither the themes nor the aesthetic of the game they were included in. At all.

The incestuous relationship between Injustice and MK is understandable, given how it's the same studio making it. I *kinda* get the horror guests in MKX, it's pretty creative even though I wouldn't necessarily connect horror with MK, it's more torture porn, while Jason, Leatherface, Alien are all in films which are a slow boil and depend on psychological tricks than brute force. But Xena? She's better suited for Injustice than MK. I also kinda think guest characters take up space that could've gone to better candidates, like Mileena, Reptile, Ermac, Rain, the cyborgs, etc.

Nobody likes guest characters, it's just an accounting error that they're the best selling DLC characters NetheЯRealm Studios puts in their fighting games.

The only time guest characters are acceptable is if the fighting game itself has tons of actual mainstays. Think back to MK9, it had pretty much the entire Trilogy cast (minus playable bosses unless you count Shang Tsung) so while Freddy Krueger was weird as fuck it wasn't like he took someone else's slot who mattered.

Tekken having Akuma and Geese is a bit different as well. I'm actually fine with them as guest characters since they at least come from a long line of fighting game franchises and having them converted into a 3D environment with Tekken gameplay is interesting to see done, plus Tekken 7 itself has nearly everyone you'd want in a Tekken game anyways. And I have a soft place for Geese in particular since he's one of the OG badass SNK characters.

But shit like Spawn and Terminator and Robocop or the rumblings about Ash? That's retarded and corny, especially considering they're getting in over sorely missing MK characters. And as mentioned, they don't even really make sense in that MK aesthetic to begin with. The only thing mooks can say is that "well they come from a series that features blood and gore." If that's your sole criteria for getting into an MK game, then where do you stop? If this Xena thing is true, then not even NRS knows.

The best thing to happen to MK is for them to lose that WB money/connection so they have to actually rely on MK characters to sell an MK game again. And I don't even buy the whole "guest characters sell tons" thing either. Xena/Robocop outselling Ermac/Reptile/Mileena is laughable considering the fanbase that rimjobs these guest characters probably don't even know who the fuck the guests themselves were before being announced, and MK11 is at that stage in its life where only fighting game/MK fans are sticking to it while the casuals have flocked to other games at this point so thinking Lucy fucking Lawless is going to reel them back is proof that somebody in charge has a mental disability.

Same with Robocop. Smoke, Ketchup and Mustard are just cyborgs.

Part of MK's charm and appeal has always been the fact that it's a mish mash of characters essentially from different genres thrown together and somehow working.

Kano/the cyborgs being inspired doesn't mean they're a straight 1:1 conversion. They look like they belong in MK, while Arnold or Robocop just straight up look alien. Imagine MK2/UMK3 and seeing them in the roster, it's pure MUGEN shit.

And Kano isn't even close to a rip-off beyond the cybernetic eye. Has zero moves of a Terminator, zero mannerisms. He's a thug that talks crudely, uses knives and spits in your face/fights dirty.

Yeah, I don't really see how someone can bitch about movie or comic book characters showing up in a series whose biggest characters are Predator cyborgs, a Terminator ripoff, Jean-Claud Van Damme, Bruce Lee, Ray Harryhausen monsters, a couple characters from Big Trouble in Little China, Nosferatu with big Wolverine bone claws, and a guy that's got Cable arms.

Oh God, are you one of those fuckers that links to TV Tropes?

Are you one of those fuckers that was too stupid to get what they were doing in Mortal Kombat 1-3? Couldn't see the connections to the hugely popular things of the time? Because that was one of the cool things about Mortal Kombat when it came out.
