The original Pathologic, so long as you're intent on playing the complete game including the Changeling chapter. I can also name a few good total conversion mods for some "immersive sims" but it's arguable whether or not those count as RPGs. I guess it's also pretty arguable whether Pathologic counts as an RPG itself. Does Venetica count?

I'm absolutely positive that you can find a bunch of absolutely garbage ones by going to Steam and searching with the tags "RPG" and "Female Protagonist", but even most of those are still just games where you can play as a female and not that you have to.

And at least half of those games where you have to play as a woman are porn games where you are more likely to get raped than to save the world.

Final Fantasy VI has an ensemble cast where the two most important protagonists are women. Also happens to be the best game in the JRPG subgenre, but many Codexers will consider this a back-handed compliment.

Ehh, he's not so bad. There's an interesting scene between him and Kreia where he susses out what she's really up to. He's one of the few characters she respects (relatively) as far as I remember. I agree though that in the balance, you're missing out on more by not seeing the Briana/Atris stuff as a male.

and why would there be such a thing? If you make it female only you turn off a large percentage of the audience? Most players are still male.

You can play female in most good RPGs like Fallout, Divinity, Pathfinder etc.

If you go outside the RPG market you have plenty of good games with a female protagonist, like Tomb Raider and Bayonetta, even Metroid.
