Notch creating a new engine (for a game?)

It’s a currently a voxel engine that runs in a web browser at 99fps with 60+km view distance with real time terrain generation. Oh, and all voxels are modifiable in runtime, although that will eat up the ram pretty fast. Just added real time reflections.”

60 km view distance i have to say is kind of impressive.

Bethesda games I don't know if it is even 1 km distance, because stuff has to dissapear because it cannot be rendered all at once, otherwise the game would crash.

Yeah, who fucking cares?
I can see a lot more just landing on a random planet on Space Engine and it actually doesn't make my eyes bleed.

Hmmm... basically the natural evolution of minecraft - just smaller cubes and more of them. Not bad. Still... weren't there already tons of attempts to create voxel game engines? It's kinda weird that he is once again a "pioneer" for something that should have been done already by major game studios...

https://picroma.com/ Cube World was that natural evolution kinda, and it actually looked fucking amazing until the dev released it for early access, got a fuck ton of cash, and just stopped developing the game. I really recommend giving it a look though.

Regardless, Minecraft itself is still an awesome game.

He put that dither filter on there on purpose by the way. Cause, you know, it's better when your game looks like a shitty gif.
He posted some shots without it on twitter.

Minecraft itself is still an awesome game.

Minecraft is a pretty good game. I'm amazed at all the shit they can do with red stone. I don't have any level of autism to try any of that shit, but I can appreciate it for what it is.

If we ever get a Minecraft meets Dwarf Fortress game, it will sell BILLIONS.

Perhaps he put it in to give it some "texture". I don't know how it looks without it, but I imagine it would be worse.

That thing with the GIF-filter is indeed unnecessary. Or is this a hint how small/granular the cubes are?

It's not a filter, those are the cubes which you see in minecraft, but they are much more smaller, which implies more precision, making it look more realistic.

You have no idea what you are talking about ( or just trolling)

Notch himself said the voxels are 1/16th of a meter, those ARE the cubes

It's appaling to me that anyone would think this is a filter ROFL.

This is what makes Notch stand a level higher compared to other programmers, shit like this haven't been done before.

Notch claims that it supports deformable terrain, with a render distance of almost 1000000 voxels and real-time reflections.

He should make a video of destroying a mountain from 50 km away and showing all the chunks flying away.

Yes the voxels are 1/16th of a meter which means they are around 4000 times smaller than in minecraft, which it makes it look like what we see.

Instead of big blocks that make it look like a cartoon, we see it more realisticaly as it would be a shitty gif.
