NWN2, Hero's Paths, Storm of Zehir Conversation System, etc.

So, are there any modules that exist that use Storm of Zehir's excellent party conversation system? I really dig how they did that, with each party member giving input in dialogue based on their skills.

Also, is it possible to do a Hero's Path through NWN2 from levels 1-25 (or whatever level) by going through many smaller modules that cover a few levels a piece?

For the record I'm planning this for a big run in the future. Not now, but I'll update my .txt with these details for the future run.

Any ideas? Is NWN1 the preferred game to do a Hero's Path in?

You can go through OG NWN2 and then go straight to mask of the betrayer, it's pretty long and gives a decent "hero's journey" effect.

No one is going to comment on the Storm of Zehir conversation system? It's freaking lovely. All party members can interject in dialogue and have skill checks based on their skills. It's really a glorious feature that we need to see more of in modern RPGs. Anyone agree?

Path of Evil:

Story: You are the villain of the story. This means it's up to you to decide what needs to be done. No Aldanon rambling on, no Nasher to give specific instructions. One companion will provide a very general framework for you, but it's up to you to figure out where to go and what to do. Did anyone tell Ammon Jerro how to defeat the King of Shadows? No, he figured things out himself. You may be told you are looking for an item in a city, and it's up to you to find it.

Because of this, Path of Evil comes off as being "story-lite", that's because you're making the story as you go, becoming the villain. Path of Evil is about the history of a villain before they "threaten the Realms". Once you leave Neverwinter, Path of Evil has an open world.

You are not required to agree with every evil thing in Faerun. For example you can tell people your personal code means people should be free and refuse slaving quests. Similarly, companions can and do have "non evil" traits such as caring for their family. They're not all homocidal maniacs, and you don't have to be either.

After the first few hours, Path of Evil has an open world like Storn of Zehir where you can explore randomly. You start at level one and should finish between level 15-20, depending on how many things you do. I would not expect anyone to be able to finish with less than a level 13 party. Expect 30+ hours of gameplay.

I don't remember if or how often they used the conversation system but it makes use of the overland map in a new world area.

I've written before on this subject, I think it's brilliant. The concept of the Party Chat system introduced by SoZ is one of the few innovations in computer role-playing games that I actually support. If rpg conversations are going to have branching dialogue choices, then they might as well be keyed to specific characteristics of the party members so they can all participate, at the player's discretion. The way I approached the design is to make it feel like a tabletop group scenario where different player characters can chime in, rather than being filtered through a "main protagonist", with potentially different paths a conversation could take.

I'll have to play Hearkenworld Dorateen . The conversation system in SoZ is indeed brilliant, I'm interested to see how you pulled it off.

Dorateen , can you link me to everything I need to do to play Hearkenworld? I'll make an LP of it next on my YouTube channel. Interested in checking it out.

I'm not Dorateen but I can answer it for him: just download, unzip and start IceBlink2 and then select Hearkenwold.

Dorateen , when I try to kill the giant spider at the start, sometimes my party members get KO'd. I went to rest in the bed and then they ended up with -20 HP/5. How do I heal them if they get into negative HP?

Ah, those characters are... dead. Characters die at -20 hit points. You can cast heal spells out of combat, there is a blue icon on the bottom of the screen that will bring up the interface to cast spells. Use this if your party members go into negative hit points (before reaching -20, of course).

Do you have a cleric in the party? Go to the shrine on the east hall of Castle Hearkenwold. There is a blue altar to interact with. If you have a cleric, they should get the dialogue option to pray for a miracle, which will raise all dead characters.

Okay, thanks, but what happens when it's my Cleric who's the one KO'd?

That might be a problem. In an earlier build, if a party member was dead or knocked out, they might still have the dialogue option available to them. We might have changed that in the engine more recently. I would try hitting the altar, and see if your cleric gets the message option. Otherwise, I'm afraid you would have to reload. Sorry about the brutal start... some of the dangers in the world, I don't always telegraph to the player.

It's cool. I'm going to skip the spider encounter for now and head to the goblin area. Hoping to survive better there. Did rolling for stats also roll for HP? I might have missed that. My characters have 7/8/4/5/12/8 HP...

Hit points are class based, with a constitution modifier. So the key is to roll fighters/tanks with high constitution. The 12 hp guy isn't too bad. But your other party members might have a rough go until they level up.

Okay, I'll keep that in mind. I thought I rolled decent stats but maybe not. Anyway, enjoying it a bunch so far, love the SoZ style conversations with even race-specific dialogues.
