The problem with NWN's story is the fact that it stood out more so than any of the other games Volourn mentioned, and thus was more in your face and quite obvious that is sucked. TOEE was never meant to be a grand story, it was based on a dungeon crawl module, after all. Same with Wizardry and the MnM series. They're just dungeon crawls with a story somewhere in there. Fans of those games don't expect big story. They expect good combat and deep dungeons. But when you make a big deal of the story and then it ends up sucking balls, people will notice and take note. Thus why NWN's story gets ragged on more than those others. The fact that combat sucked didn't help either. ;)

I think the fact that Volourn likes this game is one of the big reasons why we hate this game. If Volourn stopped defending it, we wouldn't rip on it so much. I know the only reason I point out how NWN sucks is to piss off Volourn.

I think you give the significance of Volourn too much credit.

She's just some fat sweaty woman behind a keyboard, whose nub-like e-clitoris will never be the size of the the e-penis of the most junior member of these forums.

She tries to make up for this by her estrogen-laden spamming, which she hopes influences in some way the geek males that make up the population of this forum, as, after all, it is the only male-on-sweaty-stinky-skin-cheese-secreting-girl action that her carcass is ever going to get.

And the ironic thing is, here we are talking about her.
*Hmmmph* Woman, eh?

Bull. Troika bragged about how greta the story was gonna be and how great the role-playingw as going to be. Afterall, I know this 'cause pre TOEE release I would bring up the fact that TOEE wa based on a dungeon crawl, and every time I was shot down by both Troika fanboys and the Troikians themselves. I wasa told to 'have faith'.

R00fles!

As for games like M&M; I say tough. If youa re gonna have a story it's automatically in someone's face. If it's shit it's shit. Period.

"NWN sucks is to piss off Volourn."

Ahh.. But, fi you think it 'pisses me off'; you'd me wrong. It's hialrious. I only bring up my disagreements because I know it pisses you guys off, and besides it's fun being called stupid or a fanboy on the net. Hilarious!

Well, I found nothing wrong with the MnM games. Sure they were stereotypical fantasy stuff, but they were fun to play. NWN wasn't. And the fact that the story sucked balls just added to the pain. I tried three times and never made it past the beginning of Act 2 before I had to play something else to get the bad taste out of my eyeballs. And I don't say NWN sucks to get a rise from Volourn. I say it sucks because it does. I did get some enjoyment from user made modules, but not enough to justify the $50 I spent on the thing. NWN2 is going to be out awhile before I'll even consider touching it.

Um. I never said M&M sucked. I liked those games. I was only pointing out to the fool who said that 'OC has the worst story ever" was wrong and would know it if he either played more than one game or was being honest.

The funny thing is when the NWN2 forums opened up someone mentioned “no time traveling lizards please!” I had no idea what they were talking about. The reason being the NWN OC story was so forgettable, it took me a while to even remember what it was about. Sorry, but it was one of the most forgettable stories, ever. But, Vol I’ll give you ToEE, although that’s because there wasn’t a story in ToEE.

I found myself in the same situation as you. And I bloody replayed the game a couple of times, even.

LOL Yet you dislike it. Weird. I haven't replayed the OC to complettion. And, Ellester the main reason why you forgot about the time traveling aspect is because it doens't really that huge of a role in the game. It's like one area basically.

Really? Yet, her eit is, 3 years later and people are still disucssing the OC as much as any other game. The OC is many things; but forgettable is not one of 'em.

I don't remember everything about any game I play either.

And a hearthy R00fles to you as well, good sir!

Seriously, I think I've said this before... I try to give every game I play the benefit of the doubt. I don't think most games are resolved in one single playtrough, so I replay them a given number of times to see what I missed the first time. I think I replayed the OC two or three times... Not sure now, but it wasn't much more than that. I played, replayed a bit, then sold that narcoleptic tool of the Devil :P

Um. of course. that's true for me true, and for everyone elkse I rpesume. You played it 2-3 times though. Even my favorite games like BG or Fo only get 3 play throughs max. I mean, I just imagine the pain I'd be in if I was 'forced' to play a game I hated 2-3 times to 'give it a chance'.

I mean, I played POR2 for 3 hours or so before I thrw it in the trash. I just shudder if I had to actually complete the game 3 times. Owwwwwwwwwwww...........

You, good sir, either exaggerate how much you dislike the OC in order to prove some silly point; or you are glutton for punihsment...

The games I like, I play a bit more than that. Most CRPGs I liked I tend to replay them about ten times... As for action games I replay them a bit less, about four to five. So it's not unsurprising that I do this even with games I dislike. I did the same for Invisible War, which I disliked, probably even more than the NWN OC.

I mean, I just imagine the pain I'd be in if I was 'forced' to play a game I hated 2-3 times to 'give it a chance'.

I didn't exactly hate it the first time... More like stared at the screen in disbelief, then denial, then acceptance.

If I was exaggerating, you'd be able to tell :) While I am a glutton for punishment, I guess I just replayed it two to three times in order to get it out of my system, seeing if there really was more to it or not. And... There wasn't. The only thing I ever touched NWN for was to try some mods and online play. And after three months of it, kaboom.

No, Volourn liking it is proof it sucks per the Volourn Theory.

It wasnt all that bad but it wasnt all that great either, when i think of my first playthrough all i remember is disapointment, by that i mean i was looking forward to something along the same lines of the BG series.

Right now im playing threw the first chapter of BG2: SOA and its already kicking the shite out of the NWN OC, but in spite of that I would still say that Bioware did an ok job with NWN.

it wasnt until i got my hands on the expansions that i really enjoyed the game, yea i know there isnt much love for them here but fuck it, i enjoyed them, IMO they recaptured a little bit of what made BG great. (Only a little bit mind you.)

But on the whole im looking forward to NWN2, yea, KOTOR 2 was a bit shit but at least there arent any ridiculous deadlines for obsidian this time around, ill wait for the reviews from some of the magazines i trust and if they give the thumbs up ill go out and buy it.

And as far as IWD is concerned, ive already made it pretty clear that i dont really like hack n' slash games, in fact i almost gave up near the end (that fucking dragon head shaped cave, whatever it was called, seemed to go on for ever and ever), for a while it looked as if the expansion and IWD2 would be left to rot in the box i got all of them in, but i persevered, and when the last cutscene came up, where it was revealed that the nice, friendly narrator was the main villain, i was grinning like a buffoon, cheesy, but effective, its a shame we probably wont see another game like that for a while, well, unless Blizzard decide to add in a bit more story to the mix for Diablo 3.

Ditto.
I didn't think much of NWN until the add-ons. And the wealth of dloadable modules, combined with LAN co-op, has made the initial outlay of moolah bearable.
