Oblivion Auto-scaling system : how to apply it in MMORPGs

I had quite a laugh with a buddy during lunch trying to imagine applying Oblivion's auto-scaling system to an MMORPG. And since I'm a nice guy, I'll share it with you. Of course, "you had to be there".

(for those who don't know about this system in Oblivion : all the mobs and items level up automatically along with you. Basically, when you gain a level, so does the whole world. Most stupidest idea ever. Ever.)

So, how can it be used in a MMORPG ?
- first, as a lvl 1 noob, you must be able to kill everything in the world.
- all creatures, even the big uber-evil deep down in his dungeon.
- but also all other players of course ! Have some fun !
second, when you gain a level, the whole world levels with you (how nice)
- all the creatures of course
- all other players too !
- last, forget about "zones" with varying difficulties : I told you, you can beat everything whatever your level.

Uh. Now I'm depressed.

Unfortunately it'd still be better than how MMORPGs are now, but then again, so is the minesweeper mini-game from SS2.
