No, I'm agreeing with you. It's crazy to call Feargus the worst manager ever after seeing what happened to Telltale.
The thing with telltale is that they had a massive hit with the Walking Dead and then overexpanded thinking every single game they put out was going to hit the same way. Obsidian never ever having a game go off like that is probably one of the reasons they've managed to stay afloat funny enough.

He is so bad that he managed to keep an independent medium sized RPG developer afloat for more than a decade, while all similar studios went bankrupt.
It's more like not because of him, but in spite of him. It was actually very close to bankruptcy.

If not for the Kickstarter wave they would've to go under ages ago.
If Feargus had any brains he had obsidian moved in other state and outsourced 3d models assets to other country's ( Russia, Ukraine, Poland).
Also it maybe all connected - that stormland project for MS - to ruin Obsidian and buy it out later in the future.

But yeah, come on don't expect ANY incline from this. MS got their shitty story and they tried to push it with some games ( and it SUCK's!!!!!). MS got XBOX so eh.... shit will flow. Thank god for Owlcat!

It takes more than a shitty repurposed meme to convince me, sorry. :smug:

MS has been putting in the time, effort, and money to buy decent studios in the past year, and it's too early to judge the returns at this point. (Also, if you believe that salary and not spending every week worrying whether your company is going to go out of business due to your boss' crappy financial decisions aren't important factors in keeping talent, I don't know what to tell you. In my experience, salary, security, tech stack, and job satisfaction are all significant factors.)

Again, I'm not saying MS buying obsidian will == better games. But I don't see it as a sign of doom either. A lot depends on what the corporate structure is like when the acquisition is complete. By all reports, MS has been pretty hands-off with some of their recently acquired companies. Here, I think they'd be best served by getting rid of Obsidian's management. Regardless, who knows what they'll actually do.

I don't know what all the butthurt is about. Obsidian can only benefit from some financial stability, technical expertise and not having to bother with handling publishing duties, all of which Microsoft can bring to the table. And Phil Spencer seems like a good goy who's actually interested in supporting risky projects. Say what you want but Cuphead was pure incline and it would never happened if Spencer didn't throw millions at the studio.

I wonder what Chris Avellone thinks about all of this, and would he go back to work in there at least on some capacity or freelancer if the management would be replaced.
He probably thinks that being squeezed out of his ownership share of Obsidian means he will miss out on millions of dollars.

As long as Phil Spencer's reading list isn't as fucking awful as Fergie's there might be hope.

He lost his share? Well that's explains a lot. Mister F probably had this genius plan along. Hostile environment - squeeze out partner - sell for a quick buck.
What would be great is sacking mister F and promoting Sawyer to head, it will keep his autism busy and from the info I gathered that he is capable lead( not designer though, more like a manager)

Feargus is, probably, the worst manager, ever, in the industry. After a dozen problems (including screwing things with Microsoft), this may be the best move he has ever made, at Obsidian.
He is so bad that he managed to keep an independent medium sized RPG developer afloat for more than a decade, while all similar studios went bankrupt. Yes, he is the worst manager ever.
An independent RPG developer whose first project was a sequel to a critically-acclaimed Star Wars game, which they fucked up, setting the tone for every game they ever worked on. Bethesda, Blizzard and Bioware all got bigger and bigger, CDPR took the Witcher series from a Neverwinter Nights mod to a mainstream hit, and all that time Obsidian limped along getting just enough cred for their writing to keep getting hired despite routinely releasing half-finished games. Management is the first place I'd look

Judging by MCA revelations, that clusterfuck was partially on Feargus and his inability to talk to publishers. If they were to offer a buyout, they should've done that at the lowest point, not now.

It always starts with these kind of speeches, but ends up the same. Bungie moved away from them when they had a chance. Lionhead, Fasa and Digital Anvil weren't so lucky.

this is like when brockhampton got signed to RCA records and ameer got cancelled from the group. BH changed but some change can be good, and i'm sure obsidian has an iridescence quality album (game) in them when They move over to Microsoft. Sorry about any spelling i'm posting on my phone
