Shit, I knew an Obsidian KS project would be successful, but this is just insane.

OH NOES you mean maybe he leads a different lifestyle than you and likes different things? FUUUUUUCK. How dare h---zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Oh shut up -- some of my friends are hipsters, and according to some so am I. Just cause I label the guy doesn't mean I think less of him, and definitely not any less of his ability as a game developer.

Not really. I would have been surprised if they didn't hit a mil in a day. Their pitch is perfect (by KS standards). You have a well known studio that is the last RPG maker. You have a dream team of designers who made some of the best RPGs in the last 15 years. And they are pitching the Infinity Engine games, [shamelessly] starting with Baldur's Gate and getting instant attention of a fairly large group of gamers - everyone who liked old BIS and Bioware games, basically. Business-wise, it's a brilliant move.

They didn't tell you anything about the game, which encourages people to imagine something awesome, without disappointing anyone with pesky details.

The only question now is how they are planning to play the rest of the campaign, since it's only day 1. They can take 2-3 mil or they can double or even triple what Fargo did.

Oh my god. It's almost completely funded in one day. I seriously thought things would slow down on the halfway mark and slowly creep to completion over the month, but this... this is all of my dreams come true. Obsidian is finally receiving the success it deserves.

DON'T TELL ME TO SHUT UP YOU SHUT UP.

But yeah, your following sentence is the thing which rubs me so wrongly: Everybody is a hipster in everybody else's eyes these days. The word has gotten pretty meaningless and annoying. Heck...I grew up in Wisconsin and I swear there was a time where PBR was just another shitty beer.

As I understand it they will post an update when they hit the first milestone.
Hopefully not just a "lol did you see our moneys?" update.

Almost there. Less than 4k.

I'm enjoying the moment with a glass of fine wine ...:smug:

Not really.

All good points, and I suppose you're right. I'm simply surprised that they've outdone Double Fine as far as first day takings go because

1)There have already been a couple of high profile CRPG KS projects (Wasteland 2, Shadowrun Returns, arguably Dead State);
2)Obsidian has an iffy reputation in the mainstream;
3)Not even Cain or Avellone have the reputation, let alone charisma (which is important for the pitch video), of someone like Schafer;
4)Many people are kinda getting fed up with Kickstarter at this point.

Funded, but when I woke up it still had like 6k to go. Way to drop the ball, Europe!
