It's worth noting that Sawyer's reputation as level designer is dogged by the fact the combat in Obsidian games is almost uniformly mediocre (due partly to outlying circumstances) in the sense that it is pop-a-mole. His talent shows through quest design and making dialogue into a challenge mechanic, both systems connected at the hip and integrated with setting and lore. This is the one aspect of RPGs Black Isle/Obsidian made its mark on with Fallout 2/Planescape: Torment --> Kotor II --> Neverwinter 2 + Expansions --> Alpha Protocol --> Fallout: New Vegas.
