Azrael the cat We are living in an age of MOBAs. New players can deal with micro. Probably more than lots of oldschool RPGers can.
Different audience. I don't think the MOBA crowd as a whole has much interest in single player RPGs (and by that i mean not even Skyrim, let alone PoE)

The "MOBA crowd" is fucking enormous. Obviously die-hard PvPers will have no interest in this game, but my point is that there are lots of gamers out there who have experience in real-time top-down tactical gameplay with lots of ability clicking - with no pause, even. It is not a lost or abandoned form of gameplay.

I'd wager most MOBAs don't have much micro at all.
Dota2 is the most micro-intensive game next to WC3, SC and SC2. Obviously depends on hero. Meepo, Invoker, and even heroes like Beastmaster and Nature's Prophet - depending on how you play them. Any hero with controlled minions.
LoL probably doesn't have much micro since it's a game made for retarded babies.

That's why i said "as a whole". Obviously, there is overlap (as you said the MOBA crowd is huge) the question is how much. And in most MOBAs you don't control six characters. I have seen the "too much micro" complaint too many times, so for a certain portion of the IE audience, this is an issue.

On the contrary I think the MOBA crowd would be a good fit for a Pillars game, if I had to choose a mainstream audience to market the game to, it would probably be them.

LoL is still a better-designed game than DOTA2 with its failure of a pointlessly high skill floor.

No it's not, and you're also missing the fact that DotA has a high skill floor and a high skill ceiling. The difference between the two is what makes the game waaaaay better than LoL in a competitive aspect.

I'm fine with more active combat as long as it doesn't become busywork, ie. having to pause-unpause 5 times in every single fight just to position my thief for backstabs ('cos otherwise he is useless).

Let's hope it happens.

My personal experience from playing Call of Duty 1 through Call of Duty 4 is that the older games had a much higher skill floor and ceiling. Better players would absolutely demolish average players, and that's how it should be. CoD4 was pretty banal because it didn't really require great aim, and you could perform okay with basic skills - kills were not rewarding, it was like oh yeah i just railgunned a guy with the AK-74u, whereas in CoD2 almost *every* kill was satisfying. Scrimming the same 7 maps night in night out was an absolute blast, whereas in CoD4 it was a chore.

To be fair, in the IE games you can clear a single area without resting most of the time. It's after a second or third map that you start to run a bit low.

I think the auto-attack bug is a bigger deal than they think it is though. I'll bet if that wasn't there, plenty of people would have got past the beetles.

IIRC the beetles weren't blocking the player's path and weren't part of a quest, so they could have just walked around them to get to the ogre's cave.

I was hoping they'd stick to sub 100 HP numbers personally.
HP's just a number, it's all about ratios.

Short fights aren't really all that tactical. Not much an enemy can do to your group if you can wipe them all out in seconds.

This seems like a learned behavior thing, "Beetles and spiders are supposed to be trash fights but these clearly aren't, my brain is confused."
The beetles are also numerous random wildlife encounters on the way to something more interesting, so I think the expectation of them not being too challenging is warranted.

Maybe it's fine as it is but it must be adjusted for the lower difficulties? Since the people over there must be playing it on, what, easy or normal.

But if the average new player is going to select the party and just click on one of the monsters randomly as if it was an RTS, then easy must be absurdly easy, or the game has to find a way to make those people understand how it's done through tutorials and shit.
