I think the subtitle should somehow reference the broad timeline the book encompasses as that's a big feature of the project imo.

I agree.

I like the idea of relating the name to a tome of lost / forgotten knowledge.

If we're going for cheap then we should seriously - if DU approves - consider The CRPG Codex. It's self-glorifying but it suits us. And I know it was suggested as a joke.

I like "The Codex of Computer Role-Playing Games" better than "The CRPG Codex."

Mine was better than either though.

Not only is very cheap and makes it overlap with the Codex, but as Bee said, people don't know anymore what "CRPG" is. And if we're using the full spelling, it sounds better reversed as The Codex of Computer Role-Playing Games.

Sure, go with that. It doesn't really matter since you'll have plenty of time to come up with a title anyway.

Hey, since you're rapidly moving up the CRPG writing business (our very own insider) - why not ask MCA in a while what he thinks?

Not to mention that isn't really a Codex-only project. We've got some devs, some RPGWatch users, some ppl from other websites like Hardcoregaming or various blogs; calling it "The Codex" is a bit, um, self-centered.

I would hope the cRPG Codex book wouldn't have Oblivion or Fallout 3 in it :rpgcodex:

When I suggest using the word Codex I don't mean at all relating purely to this site. It's just a damn cool word for a big book of knowledge, and it's not like it can't be used anywhere else just because RPGCodex exists.

I always assumed the "Codex" in "RPG Codex" was a reference to the Codex of Ultimate Wisdom.

I actually think

The Book of [PC RPGs]:
A love letter to a genre

is the best so far. It sets a tone for what readers should expect from the book, it sounds nice, and is sort of the antithesis of 'Everything is shit' that people expect from the codex. It also doesn't sound as grognardy as many of the other suggestions.

Using whole words looks better, I think:

The Book of Computer Role Playing Games:
A love letter to a genre
nice and simple.

Or
35 Years of Computer Role Playing:
Confessions of Love to a Genre

Computer Role Playing Games:
A[n] [Insiders'] Guide through the last 35 years

felipepepe are you searching for

a) a more funny (nerdy) title,
b) a more serious one or
c) a more nostalgic/romantic one?

Ahn... all of the above?

Sorry, I'm a horrible person and I know it. I think it should be nostalgic/romantic and lighthearted, without sounding too dorky or try-hard. I don't like fancy pretentious names, or those titles that look like an ad trying to sell you stuff or a click-hungry news headline.

So far I really like these (subtitles are interchangeable):

The Book of
Computer Role-Playing Games:

A love letter to a genre

The Codex of
Computer Role-Playing Games
Your companion through 35 years
of virtual Adventures

BTW, using "35 years" anywhere means I won't update this until we reach "40 years". I'm sure everyone with obsessive–compulsive disorder agrees.
