This game just went on sale, for me it's £28, equivalent to $35. Worth it? Or better to give it a year for bug fixes/improvements/DLC?

If you like barebones writing, empty open worlds, fedex quests, and jankier combat than Elex.... it's still not worth it.

Outward makes Kingdoms of Amalur look like a deep RPG, and I'm being 100% serious when I say that.
Both Kingdom of Amalur and Two World are better quality, more competent and LEAGUES deeper crpgs.

I wouldn't say leagues deeper, but Outwards is extremely shallow. I've played F2P MMOs with deeper character building, NPC interaction, and the likes.

I only played for a few hours but that was my impression yeah, very shallow outside of what it's focused on. The style was really cool, but my RPG priorities aren't really its RPG priorities, if that makes sense.

there don't seem to be any character stats? only thing I've found are these, but they seem to be tied to items:

You can get a better discount for this, and no its only worth it if you exhausted every other possibilities.

holy fuck, hopefully corpses vanish over time. the landscape outside Cierzo is already plastered with dead white birds and hyenas. :?
but still not sure if it even makes sense killing them all the time, since I don't know if there are character stats. but I don't think there are any, unless they're hidden somewhere.

There are no character stats, not primary ones like STR/DEX/AGI -- just derived ones like damage/resistance/protection.

You don't level up either, you buy skills via gold and specific unlock skills with one of 3 limited breakthrough points. The unlocks give you a specific (usually very good) skill and access to more advanced ones for a type of class/play style.

Other skills you get via quests, and sometimes you pick between two.

seasons change?! I thought Daggerfall, Darklands and UnReal World would forever be the only RPGs with changing seasons. verrrrrrrrrry noice.

thank god your items don't vanish after you've "died". that was the only way to save the shitty save system. got wiped out twice in the bandit camp but my armor and weapons were stored in one of the chests.

They change in real time, too, which was kind of a mind-blower.

I figured it'd just be instantly winter/summer when I went through a load screen, but no, the snow actually falls and things gradually change. Same when it thaws. Quite nice to see it happen.

Martyr Most chests (basically any in a dungeon, and the stashes out in the world) regen their items after a sufficient amount of time passes, so don't rely on those.

HOWEVER, if you just throw a random backpack on the ground, that one is basically a persistent stash. You can just make the crappy leather sack and drop it wherever you want and overload, since you won't be needing to pick it up.

Right, you can store items in the chest in your starting home (the lighthouse in Cierzo in the Chersonese) and in the chest of one of the three faction-related houses (which you can't enter until joining that faction), but I don't think any of the other chests are safe for use as storage.

Any chests in actual town as well are also persistent, or even the junk piles like in Berg.

hah, I didn't even think of storing my items in the chests in the lighthouse ...
instead I threw my backpack on the ground near my bed and put all the items in there. didn't want to carry the backpack around anymore because it is a hindrance in fights, since you can't properly roll around with a full backpack. but yeah, now I can store the heavy items in the chests and take a bit of food with me in the near empty backpack.

is there a way to fix broken equipment or repair items/ improve their durability?

When you rest, you can assign as many hours as you want to repairing your items rather than sleeping. Note that repair only affects the items you currently have equipped, not anything in your bag or backpack.

works like a charm! now I can stop storing the same items multiple times in case one of them breaks. :D

Very minor spoiler about rolling/backpacks:

There are two backpacks that let you fast roll with them on, typically they have less storage space than others. There is also a skill you can learn that lets you fast roll regardless of what backpack you have on.

Or he can 'git gud' by learning how to fight effectively without rolling. :obviously:

guise, I need halp.
I arrived at the Vendavel Fortress and picked the "I want a place to rest" dialogue line for lulz, which had me imprisoned. in prison I said I wanted to be a cook, got out and took my equipment back. then I started fighting the guards with the "let me go or you'll die" dialogue line, killed every guard except one, he got me. woke up in prison again, took my equipment but the thing is I can't talk to that remaining guard, I can't fight him and I need a key which is nowhere to be found to exit the prison. there's also that pit in which I could jump, but I'm reluctant to try that because I've got zero torches right now.
what's the right thing to do?

It's been a while so I'm not 100% certain, but I think the pit just auto-ejects you outside the fortress and isn't a tunnel you go through.

You could try to find some minor stuff in the mining area to craft a torch (wood + rag) and/or a lantern (2 metal scrap + oil + linen rag). You could probably deconstruct some of the pickaxes for some pieces if you already mined the stuff, and I think there's oil available there.

The rags they force you to wear can be turned into linen.

That kind of assumes you didn't already deplete everything there and lose it ofc ;D

Also, if you have access to any magic you can use some of that for lighting.

Having said all that, I'm pretty sure the pit just shoots you outside.

thanks a lot! I crafted a torch and then jumped into the pit, woke up right next to Vendavel.
now I think I'll have to go into the fortress again and get myself imprisoned, because I'm pretty sure I forgot my backpack in there. :?

There should be a key available somewhere in the main prison -- on a guard maybe? And I'm pretty sure the puzzle room with the gated chest can also drop you into the slave pit if you pull the wrong one.

Either way, you can always get out/go-back in unless the game full on glitches.

my backpack vanished.
:despair:

no key on one of the corpses, because the corpses vanished as well after I've got defeated by the last guard.

There's a chest that they put your stuff into when you're enslaved, maybe it got moved there? It's in the fortress proper area.
