It may not be applied to all the releases, but I believe some of the Epic-exclusive devs stated they got an upfront payment equal to breaking even.
Developers get the guarantee that they'll receive payment as if the game sold X number of copies, no matter what number of copies were actually sold.
There is no incentive to polish the game or promote it.

Epic depends on public outrage for marketing. Public apathy is Epic kryptonite.

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
Price might be an issue though. Metro Exodus was sold for 19.99 recently

Well that was a discount event, the regular price is 40 yuro now, down from 50 on release. It'll be interesting to see if the former exclusives will start selling at a "new game" price on Steam or a the current Epic one. Most likely the latter but we'll see.

So the question has finally an answer, the first ever Epic exclusive - Ashen - is on Steam now and it's 34 jewro regular price (-20% promo rn), the Epic regular price is 40 jewro. Interesting.

Pretty disappointed by this, Paranoia was one of my favorite tabletop RPGs back in High School. I might pick it up on sale just for nostalgia.
