Brilliant way to make your child resent you, and simultaneously, not solve the "problem" of getting up a little later when there's no fucking school anyway.

Jesus Christ.

During summers and weekends I'd get some hassle if I wasn't up by noon, but man, that household sounds like a nightmare.

I know of families who have splintered because of less.

This can be salvaged by the father if he teaches the son about personal responsibilities and prioritizing: That Minecraft is a useful tool... for finding autistic people. A year spent in a Minecraft world can lead to spectacular possibilities online. Meanwhile the Real World of non-Internet thingies will demand its pound of flesh. You are to Wake Up On Time, Do Your Homework and Respect Your Elders.

Which is more beneficial?

I don't think there's a father in that family.

don't share what is important to you with your parents. You are only setting yourself up for hurt.

I guess that's a valuable lesson for that kid specifically, but I think most parents are a little more fucking sensible. Although, maybe not. I guess I was lucky. I can't imagine my parents pulling that kind of shit
The parent taught him a lesson, but it's different than a parent cancelling a WoW account - that kid was actually building something. Putting in the effort. Kid was proud and shared it with the parent - giving the parent the vector to screw with the kids tiny head. Unless the kid was playing on "creative" then she had every right to delete his world.

I had massive trouble getting up early as a kid as well. Maybe the fucking issue lies with the kid not being a morning person goddam.

The parent is all kinds of dumb for not spelling the consequence out explicitly too.

Also, what the fuck is the value of getting up early when there's no school? What the fuck? The kid doesn't even sleep in that long - just about 9 to 10. That's not even "sleeping in". That's a normal human time to get out of bed. I get out at 10:30 and start working at 11.

There is scientific proof that getting up too early is bad for the concentration level of kids. Several neuro-specialists suggested school should start at 9 AM, not 8 AM, because 8 AM is way too early for kids.
And that kid was supposed to get up at 7 each morning for... literally no reason. Why 7? What's the benefit of getting up at 7? No sane person would get up at 7 if he doesn't have to.

I used to get up at 7 AM until my current workplace shifted working hours to a later time. It was inconvenient that everyone else only arrived at 10 AM, while
i was at work at 8 AM. To increase the overlap i had to shift my sleeping habit to a later time. Another colleague of mine, that started after me, was even more of
an early riser. He got to work at 7 AM and told me that he usually got up at 6 AM.
Its all a question of habits and i have no clue why such a late time should be natural. Isn't the "natural" time to get up close to sunrise, which would be roughly
at 6 AM(assuming Germany).

Everyone has different times of falling asleep and getting up. I was always a late riser and never liked having to get up early for school. Then when I went to uni, most professors started their seminars at 10, the 8-10 timeslot was barely used (if I had anything at 8, it was only once a week, all other days started at 10). Now I regularly start work at 11.

I also tend to work late into the night cause that's when I'm at my best creative performance. I get more work done staying late than I get work done starting early.

Regardless of your standard routine, I don't see any urgent need to keep strictly to it when you have nowhere to be at any particular time. Permanently destroying something that someone created is a really stupid punishment anyway, becasue what's the point in him complying now anyway? The Minecraft world is gone.

If punishment for being late to nothing absolutely must be given, maybe limit computer time or something? Tell him he'll get to play plenty if he gets up on time?

Yeah, I think it's individual, and probably changes during your lifetime depending on your habits or maybe some biological processes of your body. I remember sleeping late all the time when I was a kid, but now my most comfortable time to wake up is around 8:30 and getting up either earlier or much later feels horrible

I do not think that getting up at a specific time is especially important either, i'ts more about the underlying concept of discipline and obedience.
If you have already trouble enforcing such a simple thing, how will you get the child to do things that are actually unpleasant ?
Save scumming your persuasion check won't work in this case. Do idle threats or painless "punishment" help ?

But what's the purpose of the discipline and obedience in this case? What's the benefit of the child for getting up at the set time?

And how is destroying a year-long building project going to help instill that discipline? The kid was fucking proud of his Minecraft world. I never played Minecraft, but I do level design with mods tools (Thief's Dromed), I draw, I write, etc. As I kid I loved building LEGO houses. That kind of creative hobby takes a lot of effort, and you highly value your creations once they're finished.

This shit-tier parent destroyed a year's worth of creative work for the crime of sleeping in. Holy fucking shit. The kid is going to grow up hating his shit-tier mother (I assume it's the mother?) and she will deserve all the shit she'll get from him.
This move might have stifled the kid's creative development for years to come. He will probably feel unmotivated to start any new creative endeavours because there's always the looming threat of mom destroying his work. This was a traumatic experience that will stay with the kid for years. And the main lesson he learned from this is: never show mom anything you've created, because she might use it as a blackmail object to force you to do what she wants. Always hide things you value from mom, else she destroys them.

Great fucking parenting right there. What a cunt. If someone told me that story IRL I would punch her in the face.

Imagine the kid had built a cool LEGO castle over months of work, and mom took a hammer to it, smashing it to tiny bits because the kid slept too long. HOLY FUCKING SHIT.

The mothers move might not have been the best but i doubt that it destroyed the kids future.
I don't consider that a hard lesson but i guess everyone has different standards.
She could play Minecraft with her kid and rebuild what was lost. That should work if the kid
isn't a snowflake.

You really think that kid will ever want to play Minecraft again?

Personally, I'd probably have lost all motivation to play. If I have like 20+ hours in something, then leave it alone for a while, I'll usually uninstall and maybe never go back. A year of building gone, I can't even imagine. Also, he's 9 years old.
