EARLY ACCESS STARTS DECEMBER 6TH 2024
poe-path-of-exile.gif

Path of Exile and Path of Exile II are now officially separate games but share your cosmetic/stash MTX purchases. Featuring their own separate development teams, leagues and mechanics. Also 2x the supporter packs :^)

Features
Six act campaign with each act focusing on a league mechanic previously introduced in the original Path of Exile serving as a tutorial for the endgame.
Combat is much slower and far more lethal. Been compared to souls games and ruthless with gold on steroids. Everyone who played it like the original game got their shit wrecked.
Each class has its own dodge mechanics w/ i-frames (there are modifiers of how this works on the passive tree)
Gold is now a currency in the game
100+ unique environments
600+ monsters
100+ bosses
WASD movement

A new endgame

At the conclusion of Path of Exile 2's six-act campaign, you'll gain access to its endgame. Each of the more than 100 endgame maps has its own boss fight and modifiers that enable revamped versions of many of Path of Exile's past leagues.

Character classes

Path of Exile 2 features twelve character classes, two for every combination of Strength, Dexterity and Intelligence. While each of the class variants focuses on a different playstyle, they're just a starting point. You can combine skills from many classes together to create your ideal character build. Each of the twelve character classes has its own three Ascendancy specialisations, resulting in a total of 36 Ascendancy Classes to pick between.
Witch / Sorceress (new)
Ranger / Mercenary (new)
Duelist / Monk (new)
Shadow / Huntress (new)
Templar / Druid (new)
Marauder / Warrior (new)

Character build changes

Path of Exile 2 features 240 Skill Gems that grant devastating active skills and 200 Support Gems that modify their behaviour. Combine these together to create your perfect build. This is the next generation of Path of Exile's famous skill system. Support Gems are now socketed directly into Skill Gems, removing many of the frustrations present in the old system while maintaining all the previous depth. It's now possible to six-link every skill your character uses.
Panel4.webp

Dual spec passives based on weapon swapping with the ability to manually configure which weapon you want to use every time you cast an ability so for example every time you use ice shards it would use passive tree #2 instead of defaulting to passive tree #1. These points are exclusive to skill tomes given as quest rewards, found in the open world and optional boss loot.
Some sort of Altars of Lilith equivalent that gives your character permanent stat boosts.

Everyone in the exilecon stream is saying it's over...for Diablo 4. :balance:
You guys are more obsessed with Diablo 4 than you are with PoE. I'm seeing alot of manlet syndrome from you people. It's like you feel inadequate, and your insecurities are piling up, so you can't help but direct your self loathing rage at the bestselling Blizzard game of all time. You know, the biggest, most successful dungeon crawler of all time. PoE fans are literally bagel shop guy:

Impressions after keynote:
Auto weapon swap + skill tree specific to which weapon swap you are using is pretty juicy. It's going to be way easier to make melee/magic combo builds and things along that line.
Gold? But at least it's autopickup.
Full year to closed beta is quite far. I guess GGG just don't feel that threatened by D4.
1 and 2 being separate games is interesting. Guess 2 will be the hardcore vision and 1 will be more zoomy.
Reservations having own resource is incline.

will play huntress first probably, because spears. or templar, because he now doesn't look like hobo in heavy armor.

also 100 bosses thingy shits on d4, where you have same few bosses repeating in hundred of dungeons, from unreachable heights.

The weapon swap alone exposes Blizzard’s creative bankruptcy completely. They made their swap a core mechanical draw of a class, and in practice it’s just a nothingburger, not unreasonably far from being a cosmetic angle. Here comes some twat pseudo-Australians and nail it as a general purpose mechanic with multiple layers of complexity without even trying

Don’t put too much into a presentation. Not only is it designed with suboptimal gear and setups, it’s deliberately slowed down for demonstration purposes. Jonathan said as much in the interview.

I'm not expecting that much, but I would be surprised if they don't take a fresh start as an excuse to reduce zoom and increase difficulty. For example, they've already said bosses get full hp if you die.

It's just wildcard skill gem drops. I wonder if it's just for the presentation that you're locked into your own class, and if this system will replace skill gem vendors (now that I think of it, yes almost definitely).

Only one year until you can play the beta. I'm sure Diablo 4 wont have an exponential growth in power by that time. You guys will be just fine. Everything is okay. I'm totally rooting for this game btw. Nobody ever question my loyalty to Path of shi- Path of Exile. I'm on board with the rest of my PoE bros.

Oh fuck I'm on the MMO forum. I thought I was talking about a real RPG. Sorry I clicked the wrong button.

What are the differences between PoE1 and PoE2?
Just watched the presentation again. Probably gonna botch some of this because they were moving so damn fast but I think I got the gist of it. Path of Exile II is basically ruthless with gold on steroids according to everyone that has played it. Slowed down even at endgame confirmed by the lead. They don't want zoom zoom w/ 600 projectiles where you can't see anything.

Combat is much slower and very different from everything else in the isometric aRPG genre. Everything is a lot deadlier and you'll be learning mechanics or you'll die very quickly in moment to moment gameplay not just for boss battles and league mechanics. Each class has a PoE2 equivalent that didn't fit PoE1's specific archetypes. Features dual speccing on the skill tree that is based on weapon swap which you can perform mid-combat on a short cooldown but only a small amount of these dual spec points will be available from skill tomes found as quest rewards, optional boss battles and found in the open world. Also there's some sort of Altars of Lilith equivalent that grants permanent stats for your character. Different Acts within the campaign are based on different leagues throughout Path of Exile's lifespan, this serves as a tutorial for what you'll be doing at endgame.

Hate to use Dark Souls as a comparison but for lack of a better reference... Watch the official walkthrough and some of the streamed ExileCon gameplay for yourself. It's different for sure.

Also I want to make sure this gets on the first page, before anyone flips out, according to GGG employees on the show floor being extremely transparent and based D4 bad, the last year and a half of leagues have been done by a skeleton crew of about 8 people because they were focused primarily on trying to get Path of Exile 2 out the door this year. That didn't happen so 3.22 will have more staffing behind it. Quin69 talked to a developer at a luncheon event yesterday and he said Crucible's mechanics was done by literally a single guy.

No matter how big PoE2 gets, I doubt it will ever have less than Path of Exile had for the past year and a half so I don't anticipate it going into maintenance mode anytime soon.

But what about Diablo 4? I mean that's what us PoE fans really care about. Can we defeat Diablo 4? D4 is not my father or god, or my boss.

Face it, Diaper 4 was already on death row, but now that we know Grinding Gear Games will deliver not one, but two excellent premium experiences, with shared microtransactions so the player doesn't have to worry about which one he feels like playing today? Might as well announce Diaper 4's end of service. July 7, 2024, is the execution date. RIP Bozo.

#Diablo4EoS. PASS IT ON.
