The most important question doesn't appear to have been discussed. One of the reasons the fan mod is great is the turn-based mode can be turned off with a single button stroke, at will. Is this also the case in the official one?
This obviously blows away the argument about RTWP games not being viable to retroactively implement turn-based systems after the fact. As you can just turn it off for the legion of trash mob encounters. Ironically, a design path that also only serves to prove the point that RTWP games are shit.

It doesn't solve the AI issues.
