the games are peer to peer. as long as their steam pages are up, so are the games
how does that work though given you need an account? clearly if the accounts server goes down you lose everything right?

nothing? the game is doing the same numbers it did pre-CS2 announcement.
It pissed a lot of people off though with then essentially swapping the games out because of the questionable ethics of redbadging the store page with a new title. That's what I was suggesting.

after that there's either bankruptcy
This is the most likely outcome. PayDay2 isn't growing so retreating back to it will probably get diminishing returns over time. really grim picture.

with PD1 and 2 that's all on steam and epic's network. unless they explicitly decide to disable the games, (which i'm unsure if valve would even allow, as PD2 is extremely popular and has steam market features) it should run indefinitely.
PD3 is on their own network and requires a starbreeze account though, at least i think.

i would agree if CS were a paid game, but it isn't. not sure if the logistics of steam would even allow them to run CS2 off a new store page and app ID and have people keep their inventories. easier to just leave the CSGO client in the beta tab.

the worst consequence of the CS2 update was that because they kept the same app ID, they also kept the same listing for the master server, so CSGO servers (still played for performance and custom surf/kz maps) show up next to CS2 servers.
the steam server browser is basically unusable anyway though, since they functionally don't cap servers per steam account, russian redirect servers with fake players and fake ping can flood the entire list and valve does not care to ban those harmful, undesirable users from connecting to the master server. (there's a pretty easy solution: $50 used on steam required, max 5 servers per steam account, have somebody monitor the master server so that anybody that floods the list is blocked from all use (valve is too lazy to do this and does not care AT ALL about community servers))

kinda, but it still has 30k players on steam + however much on consoles and epic. it's enough to keep shipping DLC to the game, even if it would destroy their credibility.
