Got in on GOG sale... and it's pretty much an amalgamation of every possible worst AAA trope imaginable... forced slow walking cinematic corridor simulator with 1 minute of gameplay between frequent lengthy cutscenes, during which every objective will be marked on the HUD with popup objective markers in addition to glowing contextual activators showing exactly what you need to do with no oppurtunity for deviation, or any thought required from the player at all. Like QTE's? Plenty of them here. Who needs gameplay when you can mash buttons to prompt cutscenes. Watched a let's play and whichever part of the run I skipped to the gameplay was exactly the same as described. I'm now in the process of installing the 90s remasterers in order to cleanse my soul from this filth.

I played the third game in the new trilogy when epic gave it free and I pretty much agree with you. It was bad. Epic version was extra bad because you can't use booba mods with epic version. You where also blocked using certain outfits because story reason (I think 50% of the game you were locked into a shitty tribal outfit and can't swap to sexier swimsuit outfit).

I also played lego star wars (which epic gave free recently) and kinda hilarious how similar the games are.

Rise is a more open adventure, within the limits of AAA console adventure gaming. Plus they gave Lara a massive ass in that game.

Could never play through any of them again.

I'm excited to see how bad the new game will be. It will give us so much to talk about, so much material.

Funny, you sound like me. I needed to give two or three chances to this game to finally play it until the end. The (awful) beginning is the worst part, after that it's less on rails and gets better...but I'm not saying it becomes great or even veeery good. Very bland and mediocre and, as you say, it has every modern triple A bad trope and lacks a clear vision about what kind of game wants to be. Good graphics, production values, some nice parts...and not much more. Even the writing and the narrative are bad despite being so storydriven.

I played through the entire thing and got angry at the message in the credits. It reads as follows:

Thank you for playing Tomb Raider.
We worked our hardest to bring you the best game we could possibly make.
Thank you for taking the time to complete our game.

There's worse games out there but it is for sure a dumb, by the numbers, pandering, shallow game. If that is the best they could do it speaks volumes about the developers. Oh wait, it's Crystal Dynamics, whom by my standards have never made a genuinely great game. Ever since they took the reigns of Tomb Raider from Core Design (original developer) it's been slop.

A pretty good action-adventure movies, if you are NOT fan of the series. And seeing how successful uncharted got with that "cinematic" gameplay explains where this series went...

Also 10/10 with mods.

Merida, again
Don't we have threads about this already? Yes, they suck. You lose IQ points when playing them. Lara's tits get smaller with each release (and her face uglier). Rise is the better of the trilogy but still an AAA shitfest.

Not tomb raider games - like console uncharted games with tomb raider model as the protagonist.

Tomb Raider has always been "console games". The original was developed for the Sega Saturn as the primary platform, which then transitioned more to PlayStation with the direct sequels as the Saturn fell out of favor and PSX became the gold standard for consoles in the late 90s. Nice revisionist history attempt though.

So which is more important? The gameplay or Lara's tits&ass?

The latter has only ever been relevant to simpletons. The gameplay and overall play experience of course.
