1.) It's busy work for busy bodies.
That's alright
The mods do it for free
2.) You can't do this impartially. Define "drama" without saying, "I know it when I see it."
"Twitter Thread"
There, I just impartially and objectively defined it
3.) It pisses people off.
Who gives a shit if it rustles someone's jimmies
99% of threads in this website piss people off and there hasn't a been single change on the website done by the staff that hasn't pissed people off
It as always been like this here and it will always be like this
4.) No one here put politics in video games. People aren't posting here to vote on politics making it's way in to these games. It's a reaction to it.
Yes, posters react by creating discussions about the insidiousness of these politics
And that's fine
But since these discussions are getting so increasingly commonplace, then why not have their own forum?
Especially considering how specific in topic these discussions are, and how as a side effect of their intensiveness they're making the discussion of other game related topics more difficult
That way both camps have their own space
Seems like an efficient solution to me honestly...

What's so confusing here?
The confusion arises when a user sees one but misses the other either through deliberate obfuscation (gated content) or simple ignorance of the other thread's existence. This can lead to missing important info that's dick deep into a game that could either be a dealbreaker or sweetener. It also plays merry hell with the forum search function when/if the thread fades from popularity. Basically, it can give people the wrong impression.

Only a fool wastes his time arguing against a wall
So be a wall, or simply find the people who are talking about the shit you wanna talk about and directly reply. Argument is a waste of time when you're trying to sway your opponent, but that's not the purpose. It's the audience you want to persuade. I do understand it's hard to keep up in a megathread though. Perhaps it would be better to start an appreciation thread, which the mods can then merge into the main thread once the conversation ends for a week or whatever.

Political discussions and drama threads have always been gated content
And as ever, it's only for newfags and public users
You've been here long enough to know that by now
It's how DU runs this website and it will not change while he's in-charge
or simple ignorance of the other thread's existence.
Given the popularity of the threads in "Gaming Drama", it's more likely the threads about the actual game part are the ones that will be less known and more ignored...
This can lead to missing important info that's dick deep into a game that could either be a dealbreaker or sweetener.
Except there's still plenty of posts and discussion of that topic in the game's own thread and they will keep happening
It also plays merry hell with the forum search function when/if the thread fades from popularity.
Which again, given the current state of things, it's far more probable that threads which will fade quicker are going be the ones discussing the actual gameplay
Argument is a waste of time when you're trying to sway your opponent
Sure, if your conception of "discussion" is that it's primarily some sort of mortal kombat contest where the goal is to "defeat your opponent", the yes arguing is a waste of time
Perhaps it would be better to start an appreciation thread, which the mods can then merge into the main thread once the conversation ends for a week or whatever.
Or
We can have threads discussing general elements of the game's design, and threads dedicated to the stupid dramas and cringe political shitstorms associated to these games
That way, users that prefer one discussion don't have their threads disrupted by users that prefer the other (and vice-versa obviously)
It's a win-win

no. the older i get the more i appreciate eleanor roosevelt quote ending with "small minds discuss people". this new section makes it *very* hard to ignore it, inciting people to be small minds instead of bettering them, which would and should be the primary reason the codex exists.

I appreciate how the smallest and gayest subforum is stuck between bigger ones, so that the entire thing is proportioned like American measurements

I see the SJW thread is now also in that forum. Clearly a thread certain people didn't want to show up in the Gaming forum to begin with but couldn't "legally" do something about.

Step 1: Be a schizo autist trying to merge all threads for a megathread where it's impossible to keep up and find specific topics, so now megathreads are norm

Step 2: Kike DNA starts acting up when said megathread starts discussing parts of the game you don't want people to *notice*

Step 3: Be a schizo autist with thread splitting fetish so you can hide the *noticing*

Voila.

What happened to the times when there would be multiple threads for a game if people wanted to focus on a specific topic? If you search older releases, even some of the small ones, you'll find multiple threads

Yes, I love it and its an appreciated change

It allows people who want to spend hours and days ranting about wokeness and culture wars there own dedicated space

And this will mean less of these tiresome and repetitive threads in the normal gaming forums

I hope it continues :salute:

Absolutely based to remove all wrongthink from public view. What if a game developer were to find out that people are upset about pushing deranged current day ideas in a genre of entertainment media that's all about fantasy escapism? These poor developers, who are all retarded niggers, would clearly be very upset. We don't want to upset them. I don't know why we don't want to upset them but we clearly don't. In fact, Infinitron is deep throating Vavra's circumcised shrivelled penis as we speak. I am watching it on live stream on https://www.mossad.gov.il/

But it should be available to everyone. It's probably weird for new users (without access) to constantly see posts or entire threads moved to a section that is invisible to them. It will seem to them like it was deleted.
Agreed. It certainly is - I replied to a couple of the threads to say my piece and now I no longer have access to them and can't reply to anyone who quoted me or wanted more clarification/sources.

I think it'd be worth creating some sort of distinction between posters who just drop edgy commentary and don't source their arguments or explain why they take issue with something and those of who remain civil, polite and aren't just here to pick fights.

I can appreciate that some find the political talk boring or tiresome but at the same time there's no reason to beat around the bush and pretend as if many beloved settings are not being deliberately gutted by spiteful subversives and an obsession with tokenism. The pendulum is swinging and there is meaningful backlash against compromised elements such as DEI/ESG. I do get the impression that some people are very annoyed that these businesses are no longer subtle and openly gloated about their methods so now pattern recognition has set in and every new release is understandably examined carefully for signs of unwanted material. Which of course translates into people discussing those concerns - either because they're deeply against it or are just weary of it being injected everywhere.

On a personal level, I ended up coming here precisely because it was one of the few places where ESG/DEI can be criticised without it resulting in an immediate ban.

I won't tell other people how to moderate because it isn't my forum but as a suggestion I do think there's benefit to allowing some political talk in the regular boards and if things get too spicy, edgy and aggressive then those posts are moved to the containment zone. That might be a happy compromise?

Wasn't Gaming Drama already hidden to new accounts? What does this actually change?
I assume that some people found it weird or were too lazy to go searching in General Gaming for a thread about an RPG. Now it's in front of their faces on the main forum page so there are no excuses.

Access costs money (unless you want to wait an entire year), so it's sound business strategy by the site owners to charge for the most popular forum sections; especially if the most active posters there are also the ones getting banned all the time.

Or maybe the nazi site owners want to indoctrinate new normie members slowly, by hiding the most extreme content in the beginning?

It's the exact same shit as everywhere else on the net today. Devs shove their utterly retarded politics into their games. People react to it. The mods start screeching about not wanting politics or drama and try to censor it. But it's always, ALWAYS, the people reacting to what the devs put in the game or in some cases vomited up on social media, that get silenced. Never will you admit that it's the devs themselves that are entirely at fault for filling their games with propaganda. Look at, say, the Mystic Land thread. Is it "derailed" by a bunch of politics posting? No, because the dev hasn't shoehorned in blatant propaganda or acted like a dumbfuck on social media (yet(to my knowledge)). When people start yelling about politics, it's almost always because the devs threw the first stone.

Stop trying to discredit people's dislike for that by labelling it as "just drama" or "unrelated politics". It's dishonest and manipulative. It's the same thing that essentially all other sites do today. And it's always in favor of one political side. When it's something like the drama about that Harry Potter game, the drama will be seemingly everywhere. But once you flip the sides, discussion immediately gets banned and those that take part in it get mocked with something like "they just want to start more drama over nothing". It's the exact same shit as elsewhere; leftists pretending to be enlightened centrists and steering all discussion by using double standards. Go yell at the devs and their globalist funders/rulers to stop putting the shit in all media instead.

And yeah, hiding it away is still censorship, especially when coupled with the ever present condescending tone of "it's just drama".

Crispy that post looks like it belongs in your fresh new section ;)

I don't have strong feelings on Gaming Drama having its own section, although it does look a little odd to have a section with only one subforum.

Regarding what should go in it I can see why it would make sense to split threads into a main thread and a drama thread once a game releases so the people who are actively playing it can discuss its actual content, at least when those discussions are being actively drowned out by drama. I don't think it's necessary for prerelease threads though, at that stage everything is just speculation and opinion anyway so the broader discussions aren't really derailing much.

Of course I don't like it for a number of reasons.

1.) It's busy work for busy bodies. It relies on moderators to find things they think are just a little too extreme for the general masses and then prune threads accordingly. Guess what. That's going to be a big job now and it's probably going to get even bigger until the game industry self destructs.

2.) You can't do this impartially. Define "drama" without saying, "I know it when I see it." Also, let's just say that you come up with a concrete, unbiased set of criteria for yourself now on what is and isn't drama. Eventually there will be more of it and you may or may not be busier than you are now down the road. At some point, you're going to toss that criteria for your own personal priorities.

3.) It pisses people off. Let's just ignore how irritating it is to have threads change size and post counts in those threads change on a daily basis, which is annoying. Even people in favor of it now are going to run in to posts suddenly disappearing because they got moved to another forum. No one is going to experience that a few times and think, "Man, it's great that what I was reading is now elsewhere."

But the biggest reason is...

4.) No one here put politics in video games. People aren't posting here to vote on politics making it's way in to these games. It's a reaction to it. The reason it's a negative reaction is because no one wants this shit other than the fund managers and the faggots HR managers hired in these companies. Oh, and apparently the Department of Homeland Security in the United States and various other government agencies around Europe. It's going to keep happening. Hiding it isn't going to make things better, either.
All mods are fags but this admin is not, replying to put this post on page two of this thread too. Not much you could add to this.

Codex 2014 Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy

It already exists, it's called 'ResetEra'. Sign up there and give it a try, leave us Codexers alone who prefer to discuss topics in context - which sadly politics in gaming has become, whether we like it or not.

As for the change - it sucks and it doesn't surprise me that it's been implemented.

We have two groups in a cultural war here. One group wants to include themselves in every space, using every conceivable tactic to do so, including infiltration. When they're not allowed in, they cry 'racism', 'intolerance', 'bigotry' and whatnot. We know them, we hate them, we want them gone.

The other group is comprised of everyone else who isn't mentally insane due to ism-brainwashing. People who not only started all those spaces, but noticed the change happening around them and called it out, and their reward is that their noticing is shunted off into a dark corner, by the people who used to cry 'racism', 'intolerance', 'bigotry' and whatnot. When confronted about this act of racism/intolerance/bigotry, they give a weak response of 'this isn't censorship, this is free speech!' which translates to 'we hate free speech and this is how we kill it'.

Every single Codexer who voted 'Yes' on this is in the former group, whether they know it themselves or not.

Revert the change.
