Ho yeah, I forgot, but the footman is also quite gud, though obviously suffer from the comparison with senhime.
Sen is overrated. Fite me.
She's mostly useful for Takeda blitz (but that is true for foot in general).
Wut? I find foot to be essential at every part in the game due to their ability halving incoming damage. It's one of the best boosts you can get to winning the advantage meter imo, and the cheap replenishment is pretty nice as well.
I meant that any foot unit is useful vs. Takeda (not just Senhime), not that they aren't generally useful.
I do think foot units are slightly overrated. Ranmaru is more crucial to winning the harder set battles, like Mikawa and Izumo fortresses, than Katsue. There are battles where you can't deal enough damage to win if you are spending 3-4 actions on defending. Its usually more action efficient to have a diviner to cast All-Guard Shinmaki instead.
I tend to disagree actually. I find that in castle battles I gain most of my battle bar from shinigami, natori, and tacticians, because the +50% advantage essentially halves your damage so mere good attackers like Ranmaru are insufficient. And while the shield all is strong, the fact that you lose it on taking counterattack damage is a big malus to its ability to protect front liners.

Maybe it's just my playstyle though, but I have occasionally tried other tactics, and usually fall back on having an implacable footman in the front, and magical/tactical all-target artillery in the back. It doesn't help that for most fortress battles you want to take Rance for the H-diary bonus objective, and Rance is a very mediocre commander. And this is especially true on higher difficulties, on no-star regular attackers do fine.

Also it's a bit of a false dichotomy, because in practice early game you bring both Ranmaru and Katsui on all the hard battles... But I'd never swap my only footman for a good attacker on a castle fight.

You can really slow down things in this game, I remember that I triggered temple nobunaga fight around turn 30 something now I'm on turn 58, and it still didn't happen because I ignored ninja clan.

Some houses have gourds. When you defeat/vassal them the gourd is broken. Once 5 gourds are broken the events that lead to monster army spawning start triggering. If you are too slow with breaking gourds, the game will start breaking them for you in events.

You want to win fast for a high score though. Although your first time through you are likely to get 0 score anyway.

I don't mind having a unit with Guard upfront, but they better be able to bring the beats as well. Not exactly early game but

and

are the ones I find most useful :D

IIRC tanking the takedas is doable if you arrange your provinces so they're all on the heaviest tier of fortifications when the big attack comes.

So demon army spawned again, and I'm getting flooded with 3k doom stacks can't use permits to take Demon army territory because 3g will take them, I think end game will turn into super slog.

This game is hard, man.

How the fuck do you even achieve that? Your weakest neighbors are alive and kicking.

Also in the first game, some houses are auto-conquered by other houses. You can prevent that by being at war with one of the participants (this doesn't happen after the first game).

The Takeda-Ueshugi-Hojo trio is at a standstill until you get involved. Go to war against A, B auto-conquers C, and so on. You can prevent it by being at war with 2/3.
The Mouri also conquer one of their weakest eastern neighbors if you are at peace with them.

The trick for a slow easy first game is to delay gourd breaks until just before they auto break. So before the second gourd breaks at turn 30 (typically Takeda's) conquer Ashikaga (keep them alive for as long as possible otherwise, so you can capture prisoners). Also, Iga won't declare war while you are at peace, so keep Ashikaga at war until you are ready to take on someone tougher (e.g. Miko or furries). You also won't have to fight nazi sect until the second gourd breaks. You can use all the extra time to gather reinforcements, increase manpower, clear a couple of dungeons and getting SAT. I would recommend second Zeth reinnforcment ASAP (Urza has a broken skill)

The rest of the gourds auto-break at turns, 50, 70, 90, so plan accordingly. If you are beefy enough you can rush Takeda before they pull their own blitz attack (and you shouldn't bother clearing their house until NG+). Ueshugi will declare war once you conquer a few2 houses, so it can be delayed (but getting Kenshin is a game-changer). Once you have Kenshin + Urza you are close to unstopable

I see that you gave in to Ran's pestering and went to "rescue" Souun :D
Yes I was quite sad when Rance raped her and 5 minute later she died :negative:
Regarding Sooun and a previous brick wall If you send sooun to fight mr flame chicken, he kills him, and gets character cleared. Much recommended. Might have to get him up to trusted or something first though.

Nah, no need for anything, he starts as "normal" because you kinda saved his ass, and go to trusted once you let him kill the bird

Something weird is happening when I loaded the game today I didn't get monster army rush attack instead I got some other events it happened anyway but 3 turns later, so I was ready, and now I'm fighting shit like this? Some commanders also had only 3 units, like amazon girl

Finally, finished at turn 106 overall good game I skipped few bosses and characters clears because I got burned out after whole week of playing the last turns where boring af fighting same demons over and over again the weakest point of the game for sure.
Hmm, so what next, should I play rance 8 or just skip to last installment?

5D/ VI if you haven't yet, especially if you like Uruza that much:D Then Rance Quest after 5D/ VI. Alternatively, Kichikuou Rance.
Rance X should be played last, ideally when it's English translated and after IX and 03's English translation.

I'd probably recommend this order based on what currently exists:
Sengoku-> 01,02, (5D if you can stomach it), 6, 8
Alternatively
Sengoku -> 6, 1,2, (5D if you can stomach it), 8.
8 is really canon heavy in terms of returning characters, so best left for late.
6 probably has the best writing and character development, and not that much canon stuff. So it can be justified to play it early for quality reasons, same as sengoku. Although the combat/gameplay in 6 really drag towards the latter half.
But of course there is something to be said for taking the games in the "original" order.

Finally, finished at turn 106
Hey, 30 score is really good for a first game.

Don't besmirch 5D! It's one of Rance's best adventures with Athena 2.0, and it introduces two of Rance's best women!

And gameplay, 5D > 01 > 02 > IV, FITE ME

I would, but I try not to be mean to the mentally infirm, and you clearly have more than a few screws loose if you like 5D over 01.
(You're also weird for preferring ot over 02 and IV, but those are also kinda bad in terms of gameplay)

I mean, lets be honest, the "gameplay" basically plays itself, you are just watching the RNG during combat with no player interaction.

I probably like 01 more than most, but I think it's a really solid, if basic, gameplay loop that uses up all its design space by the time the game is over without overstaying its welcome or having time to get stale.

2 is bad, but at least if you hold ctrl every combat ends in like >5s of real time. IV could have been fine but the gui is pretty terrible.

Ever heard the phrase "damning with faint praise"?

two of Rance's best women
Rizna and Copandon? Both do fine at being introduced in 6 imo.
Also since playing X I dislike Copandon, her speech impediment is incomprehensible.

You program the actions you want to take each die roll in combat. It's not completely random and there is strategy to it. 5D is also the most mysterious game of the series since its so poorly documented by the wiki.

About the only good things about 01 are that a) it challenges you to beat the game in as few turns as possible (similar to Sengoku Rance) and b) "Royal Chaser" jams. 01 Doesn't have any real challenging or memorable boss fights and the writing and humor is still super immature and crude. Girl gets her vag smashed by Donkey Kong, DUR DUR.

"Royal Chaser" is the foreplay to "My Glorious Days"

Rizna maybe but Copa's not very significant in VI.
As for X, my machine translated gibberish was fine :D Copa is probably top 4 or 5 women who loves Rance the most, without being a simp like Sill.
