I already started the LP, check my signature.

To remind you:

Rance 1, 02 and Sengoku are already translated.

Rance 4 has just started, I would hope to see it around summer if the translator keeps a decent pace.
(Rance 3 has been going like a 3% per week, with this last one having a 30% rush; if shit doesn't happen it could be out around summer)

Rance 5d is at around 82% and somewhat stalled, but since it is quite short as soon as they recover their pace it wont take long... (March perhaps??)

Rance 6 is stalled until 5D is out (52%)

The team that translated Rance 3 and is working on Rance VI doesn't seem to be involved with IV and V.

They are the same people. More or less.

Sengoku Rance was done by the team Yandere.

Rance 1 and 02 by HGTP, they are dead, all the content they had done for 3 and 4 can be considered dead too.

The translator that finished 3 and started 4 is somewhat involved with the ones that are doing 5 and 6. Both projects are mostly separate but they help each other.

This should be useful if someone can't get past the Devil cave

Thank you for this.

Do you know if the translation of Kichikuo Rance has been undertaken yet ?

According to Wikipedia, it's a fork in the series. Having played Sengoku, that's the one I'm *really* looking forwards to playing one day translated.

The current team is going in order.

That means there's still like 3 games to go unless a bunch of new people pop up to do Kichikuou

And then you add the fact that Kichikuou is as big as Sengoku and basically you're going to be waiting years.

Gotcha'.

I wasn't hoping for tomorrow, or even the next year. I've tried to play the game untranslated, and I could tell it was big, big like another sleeper hit in the making.

Anyway, if you have any connection whatsoever to the people working on these projects, please let them know that their efforts are genuinely appreciated, and also that they ought to set up donation/paypal accounts.

Kichikuou is their lowest priority since it spoils the plot of the other games since it was supposed to be the last game of the series (Alicesoft was about to go bankrupt but KR saved them). I'm willing to bet that 5D should be done by the end of january.

they usually hang around Rance general on /vg/ or #Zeth in Rizon.
Anyway here is the translation of IV opening.

------There was a time when magic ruled the world------

A peaceful? time, ruled by the Holy Magic Sect

created by a man called Magic Master Rune

and 24 chosen mages....

M.M.Rune had but one wish.

To free humankind from the rule of the demon king

and achieve true peace.

In order to do battle with the Dark Lords, the Holy Magic Sect

creates a huge floating weapon, Toushin Toshi,

and begins history's greatest war, the Dark Lord War....

The brutal 32-year war

ends with betrayal.

A few hundred years later.....

It sold that well? Could you elaborate a bit?

As I said before they were on verge on bankruptcy, so they decided to put all their ideas for the series in KR, to go out with a bang. It became one of the most selling eroges of all time, saving Alicesoft. Some things in KR happen in later games, such as Sill getting frozen and Rance having a daugther with the Kalar queen.

By the way the translator have a special edition of KR that came with some bonuses, like concept art and a few other things.

I thought Daiteikoku did badly? How much worse was Rance Quest?

Rance Quest sub Magnum was pretty bad though. They forgot to include a plot.

Kichikuou is their lowest priority since it spoils the plot of the other games since it was supposed to be the last game of the series (Alicesoft was about to go bankrupt but KR saved them).

It's more of an alternate history, doesn't really spoil anything other than revealing a lot of characters and their general archetype (which often change by the time they are met in the main line games anyway).

A shame it won't get translated soon. At least Rance IV is hopefully in the pipeline, the best of the non-strategic lot IMO.

It is kinda hard to say how much, the best data you have are the sales charts.

RQ is another example of how much influence one key person can have... I hope they get their shit together or Alice Soft will be done.

Btw, Kichikuou does have some events that still haven't occurred... The core storyline hasn't (probably) changed, even if some events play out differently.

Are Rance 4.1 and 4.2 just expansions to Rance 4? Worth ignoring?

Also, anyone know how well the early Rance games did back in the day they were first released? Was Alice Soft able to compete with the games from Elf?

Small adventures, not really expansions. The only ones I haven't played, couldn't extract the text, so no auto-machinetranslation. I think they don't work in Win7.
