Haba, don't summon her unless you like bugs in your RPGs.

Are Rance 4.1 and 4.2 just expansions to Rance 4? Worth ignoring?

Small adventures, not really expansions. The only ones I haven't played, couldn't extract the text, so no auto-machinetranslation. I think they don't work in Win7.

They are for windows 3.1 and are 16 bit programs, so they won't work on 64 bit windows OSes which dropped backwards compatibility for 16 bit.

You get that if you try fighting her and win.
I know that, just warning you. I've seen some people either getting stuck or skipping parts because they summoned her.

Oh shit. I never had this problem when I first played RIII... It must be somehow caused by the modern machines/W7 or something.

Needless to say, I found the Devil Passport and now my life turned mighty interesting. On positive side, you can use the glitches to bypass large sections of the game ;)

Finished RIII yesterday.

Was nice to be reminded why it is one of my favourite Rance games:
- Short enough so you won't get bored
- Story doesn't try to be deeper than the writers can write
- There is a great deal of continuity (some of the events still carry on to games released 20 years later)
- Even though it operates on standard JRPG interface, the battles are fast and fun
- Simple mechanics hide surprisingly lot of depth (elemental resistances, custom character "classes" etc.)
- Powerful characters are powerful from the start
- YOU DON'T HAVE TO GRIND

Over all an excellent RPG that has survived the test of time rather well. And imagine that this only took a few months to develop.

Naturally it isn't perfect. Many things are approached rather "lightly", while just a tiny sprinkling of seriousness and depth would make it better overall. The game is rather railroaded and there is no C&C yet.

But the strength of Rance as a character and Alice Soft as a game developer are clearly present - in my opinion much more profoundly than in Rance 1 & 2. Looking forward to Rance IV

One thing that I like in the series is how they try to make each character unique. As for IV they still don't have a tool to insert the text.

I like how you can invert most/all of these and it turns into a list of everything wrong with AAA attempts at games these days.

- We've got 5 hours of content. Marketing said 50, so make another 45 hours of stuff players have to do to win.
- Galaxy cleansing machines is a cool idea. Transhumanism is trendy. Lets just screw around with references to stuff like that for 2 games and hope it doesn't blow up in our face later.
- The game needs to appeal to new players. Old players will buy our shit anyway, forget them. Don't make new players feel uncomfortable not getting or understanding something. Fuck we've changed out half our writers anyway, let them write something totally new and epic.
- Let's make a really slick looking interface that works like shit and slows down combat. Combat is horrible too, but it has BLOOM so screenshots look great. Screenshots over gameplay, people.
- Every character starts at level 1 or is leveled to the player when they join. All characters must be equally useful. Level 30 nerd must be roughly equal to a level 30 supersoldier through magic or technology or something, can't have primarily non-combat characters who help and advance the plot in ways other than combat help.
- GRIND IS GREAT MAN HAVEN'T YOU SEEN HOW POPULAR WOW IS?

I hope Rance IX goes back to more unique characters rather than class templates without much distinction between different characters of the same class. At least the grind of RQ (should) be over, as Morurun curse is no longer in effect to reset everyone worthwhile to lvl 1 before they joined. The highest leveled character to join you in RQ was Kou or something. Thanks, Alicesoft :troll:

One thing that I like in the series is how they try to make each character unique. As for IV they still don't have a tool to insert the text.

So are they translating it and waiting for someone to finish the text insertion tool? Or skipping it?

One of them is translating IV, the other 2 are probably translating 5D.

Kinda remember on certain mouse from was it Shinin Force, if player didn't included him in the party because he was weak and hard to level up, he lost second most powerful character.

Slade definitely got up there in the top 5 or so. But at the point you get him you don't have many other people in the party anyways, so he usually becomes somewhat decent by the time you have to start making decisions, assuming you are trying to maximize your xp in each battle and don't just feed kills to the guy who earns nothing from them.

Right, the links for translation patches for Rance 1 to 3 appear to be down. Anyone knows of a mirror or got a copy of them somewhere?

Download for Rance 3 works (I hope it's the latest version). Rance 1 is indeed broken — all mediafire links do no work so I guess that mediafire doesn't like Rance. Rance 2 works but it has me download a file ending with .rar.exe which is always a sign of good things to come.

There are plenty of conquest games, and plenty of rape games. However there are distressingly few rape + conquest games. Good to see one of them is finally making some progress translation-wise.
