If you're into roguetypes there's a lot of large non-linear games there.

Far Cry 2 was kinda nice after you got over the crazy outpost respawn rates (which you can avoid by not using the roads), actually. One of the few games I played where flamethrowers are really fucking dangerous and not just a novelty weapon. It's not nonlinear, though. You can do most missions in two different ways (normal or "subverted"), but mission availability advances normally.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Mount and Blade (tons of mods there, too). Gets boring after a while though, especially when you get to the stage of fighting lots of siege battles which are horrible HORRIBLE clusterfucks.

Other than that, if you want some shooter with stats, I could recommend a Russian game called "The Precursors". Fan-translation is available.

Ok i lied, It's not non-linear.

You're going to die a lot before finding the "line" if you're retarded though.

FFS guys, Daggerfall.
He's already played it many times, otherwise post #2 would've been me suggesting it.

I'll probably take a mountain of shit for this, but if you're looking for a solid, open world time-waster of a game and you don't care if it's an RPG or not then you could do a lot worse than Saints Row 2. Seriously, it came bundled with something I bought on Steam last year and I let it sit uninstalled until this past summer when I was looking for something to do, and it's actually quite a lot of fun. It's more or less a GTA clone with a lot more shit to do and none of Rockstar's pitiful assertions that they're making High Art.

Not really, SR2 is pretty fucking awesome (on the 360 at least, apparently the PC port sucks on some aspects).

PC version is pretty poorly optimized, but runs well enough on an up to date machine, and the driving controls are a little bit stiff without a gamepad. It's nothing that ruins the experience though.

Is it just me, or are crpg words becoming more and more like porn hype words (or the titles of those spam emails offering penis extensions and breast enalrgements): LARGE! VISCERAL! DEEPLY IMMERSIVE!!!....NON-linear? I guess there might be a demand for...um...an unsual...fit.

Anyway as i always said, CRPG is going to turn themselves into hentai story games.

No gameplay, focus on story and romancable characters.

It would be so much better if defeated lords didn't return with an army it would take several weeks for you to amass and train each day.

This, I mean, the seige ai is braindead. It basically forces you to move your soldiers single file while they get hacked away and utterly destroyed my archers. The only way around this is to use mainly archers and yourself as a tank cutting off the barrage of enemies. Not only that, but for some fucking reason, my king just likes to be a dick and give himself everything. Doesn't matter that I have over 500 renown, took the enemies capital and systematically wiped out the nords. Asshole wants me to build him a golden phallic statue of himself I bet.
