They seem to really try and create something decent and well thought - out.

Really? Because they cant figure out how to draw an arrow to point out where the unit is facing? Like it is done in 1001 war games?
How about just adding flanking?

I think it comes from the fact that there is no concept of facing in this game.
Flanking might work, why not. But the scenario showcased in their tweet wouldn't be a problem if you could rotate the facing of your units.
Like it is done in 1001 war games.

Bu it's their system and I kind of appreciate that it looks like they are trying to make it coherent within their rules.

Got into pre-Alpha and checked it out for incline, potential and bugs. Found all three. Wanna hear more from me about my exp with this Chessstone: Medieval Travian?

I don't like them.

Lukewarm about them as well. On one hand they try to make the figures look like people, including the animations, on the other hand they underline that they are just game pices with the falling aparat animation. It looks like the artist just decided to use all the parts/layers building the character (or just discovered how to do it).
But all in all, most people will either like them or hate them based on the animation lenght.
