Gave this a spin but it but quickly lost interest once I saw that the main element of the game is the acquisition of buffs as fast as possible. I was hoping for more exploration, but I can see how someone could have fun with this if that's all they're into. I guess I'll listen to Chris' music on bandcamp

The permanent buff stacking is cool and fun as a primary progress system ... at least in the first game. Did you play it? Risk of Rain is very good. As others have said it's the translation to 3D that causes it to lose so much. I eventually bought the second game but haven't gotten any mileage out of it at all.

I did. I recall beating it once and arrived at the conclusion that just having that goal of buffing oneself for a particular run wasn't enough for me to keep me hooked. That said, I am a big fan of Chris' music so that was also a motivating factor in picking this up. I can definitely see myself getting bored looking for the portal, backtracking this way and that, whittling away at huge health bars. In some ways, it kind of reminded me of Serious Sam. I also think the "moves" each character has made the runs feel more boring than if you picked up new arms along the way.
