It's random. One thing I could not figure, is genetics completely random? Or inherited from the heir you kill? Or from the two you spare?

Are you sure? It seems somewhat random, but things I use also seem to appear more often, at least short term. It's random. One thing I could not figure, is genetics completely random? Or inherited from the heir you kill? Or from the two you spare?
Also, been playing this game a bit, it's pretty enjoyable, though I gotta say, a couple of lives would be something to make the game better. I get it, it's a "roguelike" platformer, but still. That'd work better to remind me the times when I sucked at gaming on my 8-bit NES.
Well, there might be some sort of a skewering towards some certain traits, but sometimes I had some completely random stat/class combos pop up that I'd never normally use nor want for all slots. Are you sure? This. To be specific, it refers not just to the powerup collecting in Metroid, but the aspect of having levels/stats instead of just a few different weapons like in Metroid. Or at least that's always been my take on it.Let's be real: the term has long been used to describe all games of this genre, not just Symphony of the Night styled Castlevanias.
And yeah, good idea, bad execution is the perfect summary for this I think. It's very close to my ideal game. I'd want more focus on the unique abilities than stat tweaking, and proper permadeath, but the gist of randomly generated challenges combined with lots of exploration based rewards and some customization in your abilities presses all my buttons. However, The controls feel slippery, the hitboxes vague, and the difficulty too arbitrary. It really is just outright impossible to beat the game with your first adventurer. Not even a TAS run could pull it off vs the forest boss. Which means your progress is mostly determined by how much time you've sunk and how lucky you've gotten with character traits and loot, because neither are even remotely balanced.
and char not progress during a play through discourages from grinding (other then with lich but he sucks), you aren't forced to clean all the easier areas.

Once you have all the runes faerie chests start dropping stat bonuses, so this isn't true. You're wrong about the lich too. It's useless at higher game+ levels since there's no point in fighting enemies if you can help it, but for the mid game they're probably the best class there is, largely thanks to their crow storm spell which can clear most rooms with little effort. Once you have enough mana you can just run away from bosses and snipe them from a safe distance. First time I beat the game was with a lich, after killing 3 bosses.

But at that time there aren't really easy areas. And this is what I had meant with lich sucking I had used crow at mid level as well. I got to hero +10 something like that, and it did got pretty ridiculous I didn't want to grind stats, and the game got broken, bosses were super easy, areas were hard. I could just take assassin use his hide spell run to the portal with the boss, suicide, block the dungeon, take fighting char kill the boss, repeat.
Why do people keep calling it a roguelike? Is it because you have to start over once you die?
There's already a thread about it. My opinion: it's a grinding/farming simulator like Diablo 3, just in a different way. Progress is mostly down to how much time you spend, not so much as actual player skill.
Also, this is the second time in the last month that I've started a new thread because the existing one was in the wrong forum. WTF is this in classic RPGs?
