Romance in cRPGs - is it ever good?

YES!

No, with one exception - Ashley Williams. But that was true love and she wouldn't do it without a ring. They just dry humped and then she jerked my Shepard off. She is too classy to throw her snatch around out of the sacred bonds of marriage.

Only seen it well made in Mount & Morningstar. Where the woman gets all hot and bothered from being read a shitty poem and goes from just standing there and being useless to just standing there and being useless in your keep.

There's nothing wrong with Geralt getting his dick wet.

Umm...how did you smash your post in the middle of posts made hours ago?

EDIT: Oh wait you must be a new user and your posts just barely were approved. Never mind then.

Make the Codex Great Again! Pathfinder: Wrath
It's always good but sometimes it is bad like NwN2 OC where they hook you up with stalker elf and not Neeshka who was absolutely dying for a piece of my player character.

Also some games it'd be a good addition like the new Shadowrun games and totally should have been in PoE (because then they'd have to make attractive characters instead of making them all dogshit).

Romance was well done in PS:T and MotB.

FTFY

(Seriously, that moment when Safiya declares her undying love for you in MotB? Like a record needle skipping.)

Eh. I don't really care for Romance that is good but Romance that works in an adventure setting. MotB is a story about a group of characters who, by either choice or coincidence, came to wear masks ancient and forgotten. They are all determined to re-enact the Betrayer's steps.

That's not romance, it's just sex with whores (including sorceresses). If there was any romance, CDPR had the good sense to leave it out. I think they could have left out the CG porn as well, but graphics whores gotta show off their T&A rigging skillz.

Some of us prefer better gameplay.
So what? You won't get "better gameplay" with or without romances.
Yes you almost certainly will.
- case 1: you have 1000 games with romances and for each game implementing the romance took X man/hours and Y money.
- case 2: in an alternate reality the same 1000 games are made without romances and those X and Y were spend on other aspects - including gameplay.
In which case the chance of getting better gameplay is higher ?

Writers who wrote these romances would still need to be hired and would still write the same garbage, just without romance angle. There would be no extra money if you'd eliminate all romances. Just "thanks for solving my deep psychological problems buddy" instead of "thanks for solving my deep psychological problems BAE".

Wrong - you could make a game with lower amount of (irrelevant) text. And those "writers" (lol) can go and starve for all i care.
