Or you could just wait for the Gold edition, look at the quantity and quality of the mods and descide at that point if you want it.

Or to get all the factions/options/campaigns that they wanted to include from day 1 but Sega would not allow.

Or if all the bugs are finally fixed. :troll:

Judging by how the AI fares the hardest factions are Egypt and Carthage - they die every game, followed by Parthia - they die more often than not.

Just get De Bello Mundi if you want a Roman timeframe mod for Med2

tried it yesterday. seems pretty boring. way too many samey units (it feels much less diverse than most if not all vanilla TWs), factions, too big a map (EB size is pretty much perfect for the period), way too fucking long turn times from the get go (unless you use the "lite" version with more than half the scripts disabled). overall, i'd say RS2 (and EB. and probably RTR even though i never played the latter) are vastly superior experiences despite the significantly crappier engine

Fun fact:

On its releasing, Rome 2 review agregate on Gamerankings was around 8,7. Now that the community raised up in protest, a lot of reviewers are criticizing the game, and its review aggregate dropped to 7,8.

Conclusion: Specialized reviewers are worthless. They dont really play the games they are supposed to review. They only really bashed Rome 2 when they heard the player community whining - before that, the game flaws were litte details obfuscated by the game grandiosity (thus, grades 9 and 10 abounded). After that, the game is broken (and grades 4 and 6 abounded).

*Obs: Im lazy right now so its possible I made up some new english words. Dont need to thank me.

Is there a mod to remove the retarded flags yet? Because, I'm tired of the AI commiting mass suicide trying to get those things.

Flags appear on forced march battles - to represent supply train of the army marching without which the army is lost anyway, mixed naval land battles - where they serve to force the naval army to land and fight, and sieges. I personally think they make sense in those situations but AI needs to be tweaked not to charge thru my phalanx to reach them.

Funny, in all my battles the AI just lets me cap flags without moving a single inch. While using only one unit.

It's amazing seeing people express genuine amazement at CA's promise to patch the game every release as if 2-3 months is an amazing timeframe to make it seem less broken. Do these people realize how many other games come out in that time period? I'm thinking about going back to E.Y.E and just staying there for a week.

Not remove all the flags, just those that appear in forced marches. Things like supply camps and trains are better dealt with in the strategic map, if they wanted to do that, they could make that every time you did a forced march, a dot would appear in the strategic map, marking your supply train left behind and if the AI moved an army there, you would get a big morale penalty. The battle AI doesn't know how to handle those flags and I don't know any historic battle that was won because one army placed an unit of cavalry in the other camp for 50 sec . I'm avoiding to use forced marchs like a plague and I don't think that was the objective . They need to release a patch to make the AI to ignore the flags and go straight to your army and on defending sieges force the AI to place at least three units defending their flag or having the smaller cities having at least a basic palisade, because you can easily put a cavalry unit in one of their flags and they don't do anything to defend it. The way it is, this shit is unplayable.

What irks me is how in every comment that CA makes they try to both downplay the mess this thing is while simultaniously trying to stress that they'll fix it. Also am pretty pissed at the latest comment that the 'only' real problems are bugs which they claim are easy to fix while their features are a-okay. Fucking downplaying and pr speak all over and that is not a sign that gives me hope they'll fix this game.

Yeah I'm fucking sick of their corporate PR talk "hh hey guys, some people have some problems, but everything else is ok" bullshit. Did they sell different games to different people? Because as sure as fuck EVERYONE has the broken AI, bad optimization and who knows what other stuff.
This is not helping anyone.

Buildings are okay-ish for me: while there arent too many options you are forced to choose some trees since you cant afford the food and happiness to build everything in each province. Just needs adding more slots and building trees. Its unlike previous games where you were supposed to build everything everywhere as soon as possible.

Other then that and flags what design decisions do you mean? Units speed?

It's typical CA form to leave their base games as unpolished, buggy messes that modders have to chisel into something half-decent. Except the difficulty of modding their newer games means that this chiselling is now much, much harder.

The Total War games are such a straight-forward recipe, yet they can't help completely botching basic things to add some new wonky half-baked features that no one really wanted.

This isn't a typically buggy release. It's by far the worst one to date.

Speed of combat is a major downside because it no longer feels like a major battle anymore.

They removed formation movements from the UI.

There aren't any agent action videos anymore.

These are the worst just off the top of my head.

Oh, look who's talking

Hi everyone,

We’ve just put up a hotfix that significantly improves campaign map frame-rate on a variety of hardware combinations that were getting frame rates less than 15 fps. It took us until Monday to get a case of this happening in the studio, but it was a very simple fix, so we’ve decided to put it out as a single issue patch. This bug was introduced very late in the process, but we absolutely should have found and fixed it before release.

This release has obviously not gone as planned for some people, and I want to apologise to everyone out there who had issues with the game, whether they were hardware issues or disappointment in the performance of game features. We obviously don’t plan to release a game with any bugs, performance and AI issues. How this has happened is something we’re beginning to post mortem in detail now.

Fortunately, the same tech that gave us the rope to work on the game right up to release lets us keep working on it after it’s out, and the flaws in the game are mostly just bugs, not structural defects. We can and will get the game to where we wanted it to be for everyone.

The top priority is stability and performance – both frame rates in battle and campaign, and end of turn times and loading times. Then gameplay spoilers – AI flaws and exploits, balancing tweaks and the level of challenge on higher difficulties. Then minor bugs, lesser features that really didn’t pan out, UI improvements, and longer term adjustments to features and systems that could be better. Because there are a lot of us working in parallel there will be a mixture of different priority fixes in each patch. Much of this work would be part of the usual planned improvements we would make to our games post-launch anyway, but we are aware that they have now taken on extra significance and importance.

We have a major improvement to end of turn times in the pipeline, along with around 100 fixes in the next patch. We have another 100 or so fixes already being tested for the patch after that. At this point the limiting factor on getting issues fixed in patches is not our ability to fix issues, it’s our ability to test them and guarantee that we don’t repeat past mistakes by putting a patch out that breaks something new. We’ll also be putting each patch up as a beta you can opt in to before releasing it. It’s our aim to continue patching more or less weekly until all the bugs are dealt with.

Then we can start the kind of dialogue we always want to be having with the community – which new features you like, which you don’t like, which deleted features from previous games you really miss and so on. That’s a good conversation to be having, and since it’s our intention not to fall in to the trap of just re-skinning the previous game each time, it’s one that hopefully you’ll be having for years to come.

Lastly, I’m hoping we can fundamentally treat our releases differently in the future. Long open betas are the way things are going, and while that model hasn’t been compatible with the way Total War has been built to date, that could be the way forward.

The warscape engine does not do formations in melee combat well. Meaning the Roman legions devolve into blobs the moment a battle starts. Them trying to remedy this with countless gimmicky 'special' abilities is just insulting. Peasants burning down the gates of Carthage by throwing a few torches. Faction rosters are utterly inadequate with a few nonsensical factions being overpowered and other historically mayor factions left weak. No seasons really limits the gameplay on the campaign map. CA promised 'random' cities for the unwalled battles, there are however only two or three models per culture group. The UI is weak. BAI and CAI are the same as usual. Meaning they are rubbish. Lack of formations, including unit formations.

It's not just a beta, it's a beta of a game that's put together shoddily.

EDIT: They also just patched shogun 2 with a patch of roughly the same size as that new Rome 2 one which should optimize things. Since then my campaign map randomly becomes filled with waves. Thanks, CA.

If SEGA/CA weren't a bunch of greedy jews they would promise releasing all future faction DLCs for free. At this point it's the only thing that can save their reputation.

Why should they care about their reputations? Just look to the steam top seller list, people are sheep.
