New idea: The RPG Codex hunting a hiver

A group of npcs with low-level weapons attacking a lone npc with floating text with variables such as "Ow! Turdlicker!", "Fuck off, hemorrhoid!", and "You slurp shit!"

I'd rather the callbacks were more old-school. Where's the ring? There's *got* to be a ring in there somewhere. That is so obscure that it won't feel out of place or obnoxious in the least- unlike, I daresay, some out-of-place "devil" or monocle shenanigans.
I did think of "Choice" being a ring instead of a suit of armour but I couldn't plausibly think of it working as a power source and having "negative" effects that didn't seem silly and out of place like magic.

The greenish tint of the jade ring seduces you. Suddenly, your Geiger counter goes crazy. Closer inspection reveals the ring is irradiated. As you try to remove it, you find out it is stuck on your hand, like a chinese finger trap. What sort of person would willingly wear one of those anyway, what were you thinking? Looks like you'll have to live with it now (CON - 1, RAD can't go below 20), but hey, what doesn't kill you immediately makes you stronger, right? The feeling of helplessness has made you permanently bitter and angry, but you won't go down without taking some with you. (STR + 2, Bonus to Initiative)

I dont like it... looks too cool and well thought out for this streamlined codex.

(you cant enter the shrine without it. it gets scanned for when you attempt it)
