What gets me the most is that in mid 2012 Coreplay assured BitComposer that their hack and slash console action RPG could be converted into a turn-based D&D-like RPG and be released within a year. How is it anywhere close to realistic?

It wouldn't take much effort, actually. Most of the engine and all of the art/sound would stay the same.

I'm really not interested in all of this finger pointing, PR bullshit. Maybe bitcomposer is lying about how everything went down because they're a greedy, evil publisher. Perhaps Coreplay did pull something shady by having their lawyers present a new contract to appease a greedy shareholder. I don't give a shit! Coreplay "Wah, They wanted us to go to a meeting even though they said they wouldn't immediately sign anything our lawyer gave them! We're not playing for time!" Bitcomposer "Wah, Now everything thinks we're an evil publisher! It's all Coreplay's fault for not rushing to finish a game by our arbitrary deadlines!" Seriously, they need to grow the fuck up. I just want the game they invested a lot of time and money into to be completed. I want to give them money for it. Lots of people do. Both parties need to swallow their pride, stop trying to play the victim, and strike a deal to get the game released so they can make some money instead of throwing all the time and money sunk into the project down the toilet.

I agree than the interviewee must be made aware of what names he/his company are being called on our forum. After all, we must differentiate ourselves from all the witless gaming forums out there, and I hope this practice makes its way into all interviews from now on.

So what at its core was a console H&S gets cancelled. Remind me why the Codex cares?

Conversions from one type of game into another rarely work unless the changes come really early in development. CC seems to have been quite advanced before the change which can never be good. Think how BG doesn't fully satisfy because of the shoehorning of a AD&D RPG onto a RTS base and that was decided on much earlier.

The best thing is just to scrap the whole project and start again with a TB RPG from scratch, maybe using the lore and ideas for this as a starting point for a KS/multi funded pitch later on. Seems that trying to release this now is a waste of effort and I get the feeling that it will be a mediocre hybrid if it does indeed see the light of day.

Actually it wasn't pretty far along. The Engine from Coreplay allows multiplatform releases since Ion Assault. However the game mechanics were rather simple back in the days and the stage was "prototype". As stated before quite often: The game was on hold during the development of Back in Action (which isn't a bad thing as a lot of work was done on the engine in general from which Chaos Chronicles could profit).

Clearly changing arrangements mid-development all the while refusing to prepare development plans and schedules is the main reason any producer would lose faith in the project.
I am the producer (or maybe was. I'm not quite sure as you can guess). And neither I nor the others did lose faith in the project at any time.

Which they did here. As I understand it, hardly any work at all was done on Myth of Glory before they chose to switch priorities.

A lot of games, well, almost all games really, start as quite different concepts than what they end up as.

In fact Harebrained Schemes never conceded an interview to the Codex during the Kickstarter campaign or after.

To weigh in on the interview itself - I get the sense that some of Duhr's answers are rather manipulative and consist of half-truths at best, and that he dodged a few hard questions.

Also, it seems rather obvious that bC's primary interest is a timely release of CC, with product quality being secondary. Which is legitimate, but I align with what I perceive as Coreplay's interests - releasing a quality game and establishing a long-lasting franchise of TB fantasy games.
