Grab the Codex by the pussy
I thought the little blob with the name "unexplored" was some kind of error or infographics jargon I don't care about, doesn't even had a Codex thread, surprised to find it's a real game on steam, I'll take V_K word and try it, top down UW seems like an indie darling material

I think new Dominions is really the only genuine surprise in that top 10 for me. Makes PREY's inclusion in the 2nd place a positively everyday occurrence.

That's just an ordinary cult favorite, same as the JRPGs that have sometimes shot up into our Top 5 or Top 10 in previous years because they have a small rabid fanbase. Prey is a bigger thing because a lot more people played it.

So people who have never played an RPG before? Okay.
Well, at least for those people, there's D:OS 2 and all its fanfiction romance, gay and straight! Progressive!

It's not an RPG if you can't fuck everyone, like in Fallout.

Jesus christ, you self hating faggots trying to score virtual points are pathetic, romances in DOS2 are less than 1% and completely avoidable. But that's why people enjoyed it clearly.

As always, the results are interesting. Thanks felipepepe for organizing it every year.

If anyone is interested, here is the ResetEra thread.

There is much virtue signalling in that thread. People hating on the Codex based probably on a few shitposts here and there. They are welcome to their safe space though, delicate flowers need to protect themselves from all the meanie pants on the Internet.

? Most of the people in that thread are praising the RPG Codex list based on what I see and they are calling one of the best lists of the years. You even have felipepepe posting in the thread without issues.

On other hand, isn't what you are doing yourself virtue signaling? :shittydog:

No. I wouldn’t be talking about them at all if they weren’t calling the Codex toxic, or a pustule, or anything else like that.

And it is a shame, because it is a genuinely good game. Basically it does extremely well at what it tries to accomplish, that is translating a traditional roguelike formula into a little action game. Many games attempted that, but due to feature bloat and the general 'roguelike' craze, not many managed to deliver something remotely interesting. Unexplored is somewhat raw and seems simplistic at a glance, but it is really not. What really matters, it does well - it has interesting loot (no +2% dmg popamole crap, every magic item does something cool, curses, potions and scrolls you have to identify), simple yet great combat system, actually good random generation (with puzzles), varied encounters, multiple bosses, etc.

And it all comes in a small, relatively cheap package, that will run on a toaster and with runs that can be finished (usually by you dying) in less than 1-2 hours. I recommend wholeheartedly. At least, it is a game that is hard to dislike, and the data supports that claim I would say.

Way to defeat yourself; two instances of cringey whore-sex in a franchise that has been using sex as a cheap joke since Gothic 1 vs. an entire game where every single party member has bisexual romance content. Same exact thing.

I played it, both combat and writing(!) are worse than D:OS2. Somehow it manages to have worse pacing as well.
Having not played Persona 5, I'm not surprised by the pacing part. Persona 3 and 4 are two of the worst-paced widely acclaimed games I know.

Persona 5 was the best rpg released this year... It's a shame that it being a console exclusive meant that a lot of codexers didn't play it.
The amount of badly written expository dialogue in Persona 5 almost makes Tides of Numenera look like an action-packed Diablo clone by comparison. I have a hard time believing many would rate it highly even if it was available on PC.

>"This fully voiced romance and smooching scene are totally a j-joke we swear"

:nocountryforshitposters:

Also no, there wasn't nothing particularly "jokey" about Gothic 2 "sex" scene in the brothel. They even used CG for it, iirc.

I still don't understand all the fuss over such a dull game like DOS2, I never managed to play more than 10 min without getting bored. It's far worse than PoE, and that's saying a lot. And ELEX although better, wasn't exactly my cup of tea so I didn't enjoy it much.

I didn't particularly like any of the games listed, terrible year really. But it's disappointing seeing such a boring, poorly written game get 1st place.

These fucking degenerates can't seem to go without a romance in an rpg anymore, almost every steam sub is filled with questions asking if they can fuck everything with or without a pulse, ''Can I romance this, can I romance that''. Just imagine a fat fucking tub of lard in his 40 asking if he can can fuck The Bull from Inquistion. I remember the old Bioware forums, almost every sub was filled with degenerates asking to make everything fuckable, fuck the gameplay and the story, I want to fuck that toaster, pronto!

On the subject of romances - Divinity Original Sin 2 gave my necromancer main character an opportunity to fuck my skeleton party member, automatically making it the best only good romance ever made and ever to be made in a video game.

Combat is more fun, takes less time and isnt as boring as the never-ending encounters of DOS 2, and doesn't have the retarded magic and armor buffer.

Story is also more enjoyable, the characters are fucking awesome, love my udmurt waifu.

DOS2 is just a more pretentious DOS, still the same shit, just a different flavor.

A shame Persona 5 isn’t on PC, bro.

Wow I sure am fucking amazed that these pole smoking faggots here voted for the gay porno by some british SJWs known as DOS 2.
Buggy shithouse game, DOS 2 is turn based skyrim with FUCKING EPIC MEME HUMOR BRO, trash quests, shit combat, shit performance, shit characters, shit writing and practically everything else shit but the music and graphics. You people deserve the rope, god damn. Did the people that unironically voted for DOS2 never get past Fort Joy like gay journos and rate it like they do, based on the first chapter of the entire game? Of course they did. Sure is fucking cool when your sharp stone on a stick beat out that unique one of a kind sword you got from a quest because you crafted it one level later. Sure is fucking rad when the round robin initiative system fucks you right up the ass. Sure is fucking enjoyable when numbers double every 2 levels for practically no reason what so ever.

Dude, in the vast majority of encounters in P5, the enemy doesn't even get to move if you're playing correctly. It's the most boring, repetitive shit imaginable. It's designed to be non-interactive. At least in D:OS2 you actually need to care about what enemies are doing and how they're positioned. P5 combat is the TB equivalent of popamole.

Like, the game would be unbearable to play without having to conserve resources while dungeon crawling, which you need to impose on yourself anyway.

Story is also more enjoyable, the characters are fucking awesome, love my udmurt waifu.

I think it's better to have everyone pick only 1-3 GOTY, because that way you won't have the inevitable downvoting of good games for stupid reasons. And if you limit the vote only to Codex members, you won't have potential vote spamming that the Google system is susceptible to.
