Have fun on Pit of Despair while I have fun in Eora, friend.

Eh I will thanks. I'd rather re-watch The Princess Bride or in fact re-read it if I could find my copy of it than replay PoE.

I believe that as Sawyer's Robo-lawyer, Infinitron is immune to hand-held blades as much as to fatigue
(hard-counter, ironically).

That picture and the quote we saw before from sekrit forum seem to imply some behind the scenes drama.

Is it perhaps possible that a kind mod or even DarkUnderlord himself will let all of us revel in the DRAMA?

My guess, as one of the unwashed newfag masses, is the usual vocal PoE/Obsidian supporters weren't too happy with this scathing review coming out on the front page and poisoning their carefully maintained relationship with Obsidian. Must have been a p. lulzy thread. Leaving aside all the "lol fanboy /shill" accusations which usually get spouted, it highlights the usual choice sites which produce content like this face: pretty hard to maintain access and arrange interviews etc if you've just published Roxor's hatchet-job. But the Codex wouldn't be what it is without publishing Roxor's hatchet-job and it was well-argued, entertaining and really stands out from all those mundane, insight-free 'hardcore game, 9/10' reviews out there.

So I guess the compromise was that the opposing viewpoint from VD will be published soon and receive more promotion, given that there are still no Codex tweets or facebook posts about this review and the Codex Steam curator group has a mysterious omission (obviously waiting for the "official" review). Then Roxor's review could be linked in a footnote as a "contrary view".

Why would the Codex curator recommend PoE with a review that paradoxically recommends not playing it? :philosoraptor:

If you're arguing for the inclusion of Darth Roxor's review, you should be arguing for the game to be removed from the curated list.

Why would the Codex curator recommond PoE with a review that recommonds not playing it?

It explains the game systems in depth and mainly says it was a disappointment compared to the very high expectations the writer initially had. Some other reviews linked on the list aren't gushing with praise either.

But I never expected it to be linked there anyway, just pointing it out.

Which ones? If those reviews reach the conclusion that you shouldn't play the game and that the game is a wholly negative experience, those games should logically be removed from the list, yeah. It seems utterly bizarre to me to include those games on a list that's explicitly about supporting and recommending games that are regarded as a positive experience by the curator in question. I don't think the Codex curator recommonds DA2, DA:I, Oblivion, etc.

My impression was the Roxor was calling it a mediocre game and the "worst Obsidian game ever" conclusion was a joky exaggeration. And that the detailed description of the mechanics could still be of use to someone. But I don't really see the point in getting into the old argument about removing all the mediocre games like DA:O from the curator list, so best to just ignore that part of my post. You win, it's probably right not to have it linked on the curator list. My general speculation about the divide behind the scenes over this review was just that, speculation, and my impression remains that this isn't being promoted like other reviews have been in the past.

I'm not seeing what the joke is - the review didn't mention a single positive thing except graphics and sound. That doesn't make it a bad review (in fact, it's a pretty decent review), but it does pose the question I asked before:

I'm pretty sure the DA:O review was positive overall.

:nocountryforshitposters:This isn't actually what I said, nor was it ever about 'winning'.

RPG Wokedex Strap Yourselves In
We should maybe make some RPG database like Gamebanshee and vote on titles, that way we wouldn't have to argue about "RPG Codex" consensus all the time.

Congrats on 1000 comments!

In honor of that feat, I will make my first leak. Names and foul language have been removed to protect the innocent:

I am terribly sorry for writing an article that might intrude upon your ideas of making this site the 2nd rock-paper-shotgun, and that, in fact, posting this review on the main page may stop the flow of doritos that you so desperately crave. All them tweets with thumbs up from Obsidian, all gone. All them upcoming exclusive interviews and retrospectives, all gone. The rpgcodex official stream of PoE 2 (or expansions), first in the interwebs!!! all gone.

Since I see you don't even have the guts of telling this to my face, I believe the time is right to put all the cards on the table from me.

I consider you the very embodiment of the decline of the Codex. You are nothing more than a

Does this mean everbody dislikes the game except Infinitron or am I interpreting that picture wrong?
(inb4 the second review is going to be a beatdown too)
You're interpreting it wrongly. I, for instance like the game and VD and Grunker too I guess. Dunno about everybody else. However, when it comes to the "waaaaahhh me no likey to publish mean review about game I like" - agenda, then yes, he's alone. Forever alone.

I wouldn't mind seeing an Infititron review of PoE on the front page.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 Pathfinder: Kingmaker Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
I've bought this game since all the hype from the other sites made it seem like the second coming of Jesus H, but haven't had time to play it. Reading the review was depressing, making me wanting to wait until all expansions are out and maybe some of the problems are fixed in the GOTY edition.
I appreciated the character creation breakdown and the combat mechanics detailed problem description. I don't know about the "review the Codex needs", but a bitchslap to reality from time to time is required.

Thankyou for inadvertently explaining the 'everyone should stab infinitron' question I had. All I could get before was that it was a good idea. Now that I know the why I cannot stop shaking my head.

Codex Year of the Donut Serpent in the Staglands Dead State Divinity: Original Sin Project: Eternity Torment: Tides of Numenera Wasteland 2 Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 A Beautifully Desolate Campaign Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Pathfinder: Kingmaker Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture I helped put crap in Monomyth
I didn't want to post in this thread, but since VentilatorOfDoom insists on telling stories about me, here we go.

I was instructed by Crooked Bee to stall the review until VD and Grunker's review was done, then post the two reviews together. As the two people in charge of 95% of Codex front page content for the past several years, that was our plan.

She did say that if the review was good, she might change her mind. Crooked Bee went on a business trip a day before Roxor submitted the review. Since I think his review is absurd, I decided to stall it until she could read it and decide.

This greatly upset some of the other staff members and collaborators, so they called in DU and overruled me. End of story.
