I am not following you around, you think too much about yourself. You just happen to be showing up in topic I care about and making them worse with your presence.

Also provoking you seems to be fun for those 6 people that are still not ignoring you.

I've put about 30 hours into Pillars of Eternity on Hard difficulty and I must say I'm having a great time with it. Yeah it has some problems. But it is better than the vast majority of what else comes out.
Looking forward to all the complaining on this site about minor things in the Witcher 3 which are "wrong" (even though the game is going to be AWESOME! Let's hear it for positivity!).
This summerizes everything is wrong with Pillows.

PS:
The Witcher is a mediocre action game not a true RPG, retard.
Pollack perchance?

And more declaratory statements again, despite obvious facts, You sonny are a stupid shitbrain retard and nothing else. You are incapable of making any actual arguments so you think its very smart to pretend you are just trolling.
Here is the news flash, you arent the first to try it.

There has been and still are several such cretinous stupid turds trying to do the same and it all ends the same.

You are literal example of this old meme:

I love Obsidian (I really do) but I am forced to agree with the review. I just can't call this the game I've expected in any sense of the word. Sawyer, you successfully analyzed Baldur's Gate so much, took it apart and turned it over so much that, instead of finding out what makes it tick, you reduced it to a clinical mess of parts that don't work well together.

It's like that scene in Dead Poet's Society where the teacher tries to graph the merit of a poem. That's just not the way poetry works, and games are poetry of a kind. They need emotion put in there to be great. And I can tell the writers tried their best but fell short. We here at the Codex are always willing to forgive a game its flaws if it's written extremely well, but in the case of this game, the flaws just outweigh the writing.

Try harder next time. D-

Edit:I should add that I think the review itself could be written better. Even though I agree with it quite a bit, its tone comes off as a bit biased. But then again, this is the Codex.

The above story of course fails to mention that our friend Infinitron immediately started pming people to inform them of the secret agenda, without as much as mentioning in the content forum thread dedicated to this review that he was told to stall it, and that he was also dedicated to stalling it as much as he could. Because all the content forum thread about this review had from him was 'GUYS GUYS MAYBE WE SHUD WAIT FOR CB YOU KNOW JUST SAYIN'.

It also fails to mention how good guy Infinitron started shittalking me in that conversation, calling me an 'unhinged lunatic', that I essentially shouldn't be let to review anything again, and that my review should definitely be postponed indefinitely because a "balanced review" (tm) should come before it because I obviously "don't get" the game. Also, publishing my review was apparently doing me a favour.

It also doesn't quite mention that poor Infinitron was trying very hard to sic Vault Dweller against me, and once that failed because VD had the gall to call my review good (the heretic!), he first wanted to hammer down EU-level bureaucracy about his "contracted review" being needed to be published. He eventually also said that once my review is posted (after VoD rebelled against his constant bullshit), it should not be titled "rpgcodex review" but "Darth Roxor Hates Poe", and that VD should be thrown under the bus with a line ridiculing him for not delivering a review in time (note the lack of throwing Grunker under the bus because he mostly stayed silent about the whole deal).

I was eventually invited to the secret convo by VoD, who has proven himself again to be a bro and a gentleman, and I could see for myself what was going on behind the scenes of behind the scenes. I mostly laughed, but I was also absolutely disgusted.

Oh, and after all this was done, he told me I should deal with it like a professional. Because he can, being the professional gaming journalist that he has so very clearly outed himself as.

xoxoxo

First you plagiarise my comments on Pillars of Eternity, now you're plagiarising my Expeditions: Conquistador post-review meltdown?

You really have no fucking shame, Darth Roxor.

Nobody? care to prove that? oh i should start licking stupid shit asses so they dont ignore me, eh? like you do?

- as opposed to your personality?

:)

- there we go, one fucking stupid retard less to see.

Continuing my comparison to BG 1. At one point I had a party Edwin, Jaheira, Khalid and Imeon. I've realized that all of them except for Imoen had much more XP than me. I've decided that this cannot stand, deleted them all from my party and decided to explore the wilds in order to kill some creatures and get XP from them. There I found Basillus. At first he paralyzed and kill me, but after pre-buffing correctly (I was warrior-priest), running away when needed and killing strandlers with my sling I've finally beaten him. I've also killed some hobgoblin brigans, by using entangle to split them, and because at one point one of them panicked and started to flee. This would not happen in PoE because:
-There is no XP for combat so the entire plan would have to be replaced by doing fedex quests
-There are no spells like entangle or order that would allow me to win the combat. There actually no low-level spells that root enemy in one place for long period of time.
-Engagement system would make me unable to retreat
-There would be no clever pre-buffing because there is no pre-buffing in PoE. Buffs are also much weaker.
-There is no morale system, and terrified enemy just hit less hard instead of running away

EDIT
My biggest complain is no XP for combat. Sure it's basically a Skinner's box, but one that works. Every encounter is welcome because it makes you more powerful. In PoE I was basically going "fuck not again" after seeing a group of monsters. Making fighting monsters not rewarding in a game that is all about fighting monsters is IMO stupid.

Bravo!
This summarizes perfectly the gut-reaction I have (and I admit, it might even be an excessive one) towards Sawyer's philosophy and "teaching" lines.
I just can't help but react that way when I hear this guy who thinks he's cracked the formula, yet he's completely oblivious to an entire spectrum of reality which he can't dissect as it's unaccessible to him. And he doesn't even suspect that that's what's happening.

Slick?

But yeah, PoE spells and abilities are unimpressive as a whole.

Slick was nerfed. Yes, before it could really make enemy prone for a long, now it stops them for 3 seconds of something.

I read a couple of pages of the thread in the Obsidian forums regarding Roxor's review. Funnily enough, most of the posts are Obsidian fans agreeing with the review. When people in fan forums are able to display a more critical eye than Codexers, you have to admit that there's certainly been a massive drop in the quality of the forum population here over the years. This used to be a site about advocating for better RPGs, now instead it's a gathering point for bootlickers.

Didn't get the same impression from browsing that thread, just compare the most fisted/liked posts (if you consider that be a good gauge of general opinion) in the two threads, the difference in attitude is obvious. Sure, there are a few people there fighting the good fight but lots of edgy posts about the review and the Codex as well.

-There is no XP for combat so the entire plan would have to be replaced by doing fedex quests

You get experience for killing the same kind of enemy several times, until you know that enemy 100%. Since enemies are reasonably varied, especially in the beginning you will get quite a lot of XP in combat.

-Engagement system would make me unable to retreat

Why not? You may survive disengagement or even cast a spell or scroll that causes the enemy to disengage you. Though yeah, this may not be readily available in the beginning.

To those of you who like PoE I was wondering:

1) Do you regard Dragon Age: Origins as a classic old school cRPG with fun and challenging and strategic/tactical (take your pick) combat?
2) Do you enjoy MMORPGs?
3) Did you play and/or enjoy Ultima Underworld 1 at the time it was released?
4) What were your favorite computer games from the 1980s that you played and enjoyed at that time?
I liked the game, but much like Roxor's review I couldn't be arsed to finish it, so I'd give it a modest 7/10 rating.
1.) No, but I still liked the game. Mostly due to the choices available throughout and the sheer player agency.
2.) No
3.)

4.)Wasn't born.

Does that confirm all of your biases?

Going into the wilds and killing enemies for XP is just not an option in PoE, the rewards are too small. Not to mention many monsters, like bandits don't give you any XP since they are not in the bestiary. In BG 1 killing only Basilus gave me 900xp, in PoE you get 2000xp or something like that for killing all drakes. This is a joke. And yes, we can compare the XP values. In BG 1 you en at 75k xp, and in PoE the cap is reached at 66k. As for disengagement, running away is simply not an option with one character, it's likely that other enemy will hit you, which will case you to stagger and get engaged again.

*You must balance your party before venturing forth*

And yeah, there's no disengaging from combat until one side is dead. Ever. You could have somoene blind, deaf, prone, at 1 hp and snared and they will still chase you to the edge of the map. And you're not allowed to leave.

I also like POE on a 7.5/10 level, so:

4) What were your favorite computer games from the 1980s that you played and enjoyed at that time?

1) Never played it and have no desire to.
2) Never played them and have no desire to.
3) Yep, shortly after it was released.
4) Well, I started in the early 90's for the most part. The first games I bought were Monkey Island 2 and Wizardry 7.

You know, I've never tried running away. Does it actually work to leave the map while a fight is on-going?

Nope. No running away in this game, ever. Which is farcical, really. Hell, even Persona 3 on Expert/Maniac (a notoriously difficult jRPG) let you run away if you use an expensive consumable.

I'm playing DA:O right now and it's like PoE, only worse. Abilities are even more boring, combat takes longer, itemization and advancement is even worse. In PoE I think for a bit when deciding which item to use in DA:O I just check which item gives the biggest boost to my favorite attribute and roll with that. The only good things are right now one spell that freezes enemies and makes you feel like you are doing something. However the atmosphere, dialogues and plot kill the game for me. It's a fun time-waster but not much more.
