Use your natural advantages and get really good cardio, then you can run away with your svelt frame and long legs, throwing rocks at your opponent until he collapses. It's called "kiting"

I use dialogue skillchecks the most. By that I mean I try to anticipate whether lying, being charming or a different approach is the most promising way to get the result I want. It's actually quite interesting to see how different tactics work for different people.

But I haven't tried [intimidate]-option very often.

I try to spend those skill points relatively evenly as you don't know for how long any npcs will remain with you (if they even join you)
Also while I'd like to spend my accumulated golds on that one shiny object, I restrain myself cause I can never be too sure if there doesn't come up another more valuable or useful item on which it can be spent on
