Thanks a lot. I also have no clue about how to find Sultans and persuade them to join the alliance.

Anyway, any interesting mods to try? Which adds more cool classes?

Check the diplomacy screen, you can work out which region a sultan is based at from there. After that you need to track them down because some of them like to move about. Each sultan has a loyalty quest, one of which is likely impossible for the spiritmancer to complete. So get creative.

Localization Update and later plans!
Hi Travelers,

The long march is ongoing in the desert! Today we’d like to share a couple of things in this blog: The process of EN localization & some teasers for upcoming new content!

1. Progress on English translation improvements

A new localization version went live last Friday. In this version, we’ve proofread
most of text/dialog/class storyline parts
in the game. Here we would like to extend our appreciation to community players who submitted dozens of suggestions each on how in-game language could be improved.

But it’s not the final standard we pursue, the rich and winding storylines of the Great Desert will see continuous localization improvements in each of the updates leading up to the official release of Sands of Salzaar. We will keep it updated every month and it will be lovely to hear your suggestions for it :)

Translation improvements in this update include:

- Improvements to dialogues and text throughout the beginning of the main story and Spiritmancer quest lines

- Updates to various quest names and descriptions

- Fixed inconsistent code between the source and English text which could have led to errors with auto pathing

- Fixed inconsistent skill variables between source and English text

- Further clarification of terminology when talking about troops, squads, and parties

- Fixed issues with character name consistency

- Notable terminology changes

- Improved some word-order & tones inconsistency issues in the section of storyline & dialog

- Of note: March Speed is now referred to as Map Speed

We appreciate your patience and look forward to improving the overall quality of the English translation to provide the most immersive experience possible in Sands of Salzaar!

2. Teasers for the new content

Meanwhile, we’ve been busy with some new content development. They will meet you soon in later updates, but we'd like to give you the first look here:

-

Anyway, we will share the wiki page soon ;)

I enjoyed this for a bit. If anyone is turned off by the anime-esque aesthetics in the screenshots, it's just a poor representation of what you actually get imo. Outside of the important character art, it's mostly just regular painterly-style art.

We are excited and proud to announce that Sands of Salzaar has sold over 1.5 million copies across all platforms! 1,000,000 PC and 500,000 Mobile copies contributes!
  • We heard your voice! game's control scheme and combat logic
    - As controls and movement touch upon some of the game's most basic logic, we are proceeding with caution when optimizing controls to avoid an unintended "butterfly effect" that would negatively impact other aspects of gameplay. While the update released on July 20 already included some of these optimizations, we will continue to make further progress on the control and movement user experience in Sands of Salzaar.

  • Gamepad or controller support,
We do remember this must-done target and sorry for sharing the progress so late: most of the functions have been well developed. and now the team's currently working on the UI design and controller interaction polishments. Always hope to deliver well-tuned control and game experience instead of using certain basic control template

  • Regarding game performance
    - While we have attempted to improve game performance with each update over the past two years, the main priority has always been to release new content. This has resulted in some unintended issues. Our short-term focus will be to resolve game stuttering and other performance problems some players are experiencing.

  • Regarding development plans
    - Our goal has always been to be as Open as possible with our development pursue. While we plan to incrementally expand the desert with fresh content, we are excited to announce a new direction for Sands of Salzaar. We will enrich the existing world and stories of Salzaar by building on and deepening their current lore.
New weapons, gear, legacy selections, dungeons, bosses, troops, and more will be added to the characters already available.

Doesn't look very good. In Warband and Bannerlord, even when the damages are set to 1/4, there's nowhere near that much hp bloat. I bet this game doesn't even let you host feasts or attend one of Haralus' many wartime feasts.

Sands of Salzaar - Future Development Blog
Hi Travellers,

Greetings!

We’d like to start off with some fresh stuff to share, things we mentioned in the last post!
As we said, It has a long journey ahead of us before Sands of Salzaar becomes the game we dream it can be. Thus we’ve been hard at work on our plans for future content.

And since we got some progress…there are no secrets under the hats! We wanted to give you lots to look forward to and to have discussions with us between now and when the content goes live!
These contents are not simply decided by our own imagination - We’ve reviewed past community feedback and had deep discussions with MODs authors. It’s not surprising that most of the interest is about more elements filled in the current open-world system. Truly, this is also what we were aiming for.

Considering all the in-game aspects are closely linked and most of them would touch upon some game’s general logic. T
herefore, we are proceeding with full caution and planning to prepare a
[Content Package Update]
to meet you in the future. We can safely say that it will be something you haven’t seen in the game before!
Although it’s still in the progress, we’ve got something.

Hope to share with you in the early stage and sooner gather your valuable feedback ;)

Skill Trees, More branches!
d2097fb5f993c13b64f2acae8ea2629ac8c1c57d.png

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
(The original skill tree; More skill types/Settings will be designed/added)

In this post, we will pick the NPC part as an example, It's currently considering adding a new set of [skill trees] for all heroes. Compared with the previous skill tree, besides the brand-new active skills, the idea is to put more passive skills with attributes and functionalities, which will be deeply binding with the character's background and personality.

For example, if I want to train a hero from [Nasir] to become a [Blacksmith], he will be given a new set of passive skills, which are unique to the [Blacksmith] role, such as [Sand Mining] and [Strength] - the former will help the team to gain some "iron stone" for a regular period, and the latter will increase the NPC "stamina" attribute. In addition, he can provide services for the team to repair equipment during the long march in the desert.

We hope in the future version NPCs can carry more characteristics and roles in this world. Roles like [Chef] will be related to "food", [Alchemist] will increase their skills in "Pharmacy", and [Merchants] will have a natural advantage in the "Trade" part... Although the skills of NPCs are still being designed, we believe that all of you in the community will have more interesting and fun new ideas. If you have better ideas, be sure to leave your feedback in the comments!

More connections with [Favorability]
——Let's continue with this blacksmith NPC From Nasir——

If the travelers invite him to the team, due to the hostile relationship between the two tribes of the Nasir and Dakn, Travelers will encounter some new troubles, they will be assassinated or ordered by the scorpion army

Faced with this situation, would you remove him from the team in order to avoid the calamity of death? Or fight back bravely? Kick out the blacksmith from the team seems to be a once and for all thing, but it also will erase the team ability of [Gathering Resources]. And if you defeat the incoming enemy, it may have some new triggers [Special Events] from the blacksmith, provide special weapons/armor, or perhaps his friend's FAV also will be improved due to your brave choice.

Or, the long-term plan, to maintain a good relationship with Amanda is the primer choice. However, if this NPC is still in the team, the relationship increases with Amanda now will be affected, which will probably cause you to involve more time with tribal diplomacy.

We hope that everyone will feel that there will be more “butterfly effect” happening in the open world in than before; Besides, as you said, the investment in NPC relationships should be more attractive and encouraging. So there is a function, temporarily called [Secret Taught], that is under development. After reaching a certain [Favorability], players will be allowed to copy the skill page of NPCs for their own use.

[Future Plans]
The above are some ideas for the NPC part as an example. We’d love to get your feedback on some proposed changes above. And we’re always keen to hear about it. Also, we strive to bring u more progress on other content news! It would be sooner than you think! Such as new active skill designs, witchcraft reactions, etc. Look forward to seeing you in the comments.

Doesn't feel like a mobile game.
One could have suspect/assume it to be due/when:

  • Unit graphic/visual and placement limit in battle. Not all squad troops appear at once, the game introduced the rest in combat as reinforcement. Based on knowledge of system capabilities. PC are generally stronger/better than console thus video games of the former would provide more compared to the latter. The smartphone being lesser compared to the PC.
  • User-interface limit, too many skills and items that are of use cannot be fit on the skill bar, requiring to pause the battle if one wants to rearrange the skill bar or look for the item in their menu.
  • When clicking on an area with multi/many intractable, a menu appears to select the specific target. The mouse pointer precision would not require such system/mechanic yet when one factors/considers a finger size press on the mobile smart phone such system/mechanic would be required/needed.
The game can still be recommended despite it faults/short-comings. Specifically if amassing/training/managing a horde/army/faction and have it clash against another one while having well drawn characters or/and discovering small things/details/variations along the play is appealing/alluring/attractive.

Some units have a backstory from the dialogue menu.
Even one liner can manage to give the illusion of depth/life/personality.

This looks pretty cool, especially for the price. I suppose I should wait for the huge incoming free January update though.

DLCs are out now!
Dear adventurers:

The two DLCs [Champion of Chaos] and [The Tournament] are officially meeting with you today!
The featured update has been live with v.1.0.15 along with a 60% off discount!
In the meanwhile, we are also thrilled to announce the mobile version will be also released on mobile platforms with DLC too, you can enjoy Sands of Salzaar with a pocket version now!

Free DLC - [Champion of Chaos]
Champions of Chaos is a Free content expansion pack that was added to the base game and inspired by some of the most popular suggestions and feedback we’ve collected from the community. Again, we’d like to thank you all for giving us so much support!

This pack includes:

aeea430619890faf6c0f032cd4119dbb819a2bec.jpg

NPC is always the key to Sands of Salzaar, so we hope that their skills will be developed around the character setting and their own background. This can better enhance the image of the characters, and also allow adventurers to have a more clear target when making recruitment decisions. Therefore, we first re-designed a new skill talent tree with 17 characters, and expanded the number of skills on the basis of the original skill tree.

Here are the 17 heroes:

Amira Zahra, Princess Bellen, Astrid、Riq、Yousef, Goldie Kabir, Lotus Kabir, Tiqin, Assel, Shahid, Yaya、Galo Zahra, Najima, Batu, Rwal, Threnody, Tasha.

Compared with the original design, we hope the designed skills have some control effects and combination effects of skill linkage. Besides, the linking effect between these characters can have better combat performance in another DLC [The Tournament], in the 3v3 battle mode, allowing adventurers to have more choices when group-up a team.

Paid DLC - [The Tournament]
The Tournament is a new mode with character cultivation, skill builds and combat operations elements. Adventurers can try different combinations of heroes according to their own preferences, and dig out the most suitable combat style for yourselves,

This pack includes:
25093800255a04793f6890cd3ed59927eb1f199f.jpg

Sands of Salzaar has hundreds of NPCs with different personalities and characteristics. We hope that when adventurers take them under command, it is not just to collect people or reduce the enemy's forces, but to hope that these NPCs can become good helpers for adventurers so that everyone's journey in the desert will no longer be lonely. Skills linkage must be a way for the mentioned above, NPCs in 3v3 battles will reveal more chemicals after your cultivation.

However, with this amount of skill rework and NPC designs, we can imagine that there must be some places that have bugs or unbalanced stat in the NPC Designs and the 3v3 arena mode. we will continue to improve this part of the content in the future, and we hope that you can feel free to communicate with us, Thank you for your support!

Six fucking dollars on the front page of steam. Without question get it at that price. The tournament DLC looks mediocre but it's cheap. Anyone try the free one yet?

What‘s New in Upcoming DLC "The Ember Saga"
Hi, travelers in the desert,

Recently, we shared some news about the new DLC and today we want to further discuss our thoughts after reviewing our work and officially share a preview of the new DLC, "The Ember Saga", with you.

What We Have Been Doing
After releasing two DLCs earlier this year, we went through a two-month period of frequent updates and fixes. Through six versions, we supplemented and optimized the skill configurations, rewards, and effects of the DLCs. We also fixed bugs including abnormal passive skill effects for heroes, save function errors, and errors in tournament rewards settlements.

After addressing these issues, we did not forget the issue of game crashing. However, the causes of crashes are diverse and complex, making it difficult to thoroughly solve them with one or two updates. Luckily, after several attempts and communication with enthusiastic players who reported problems, we have made some progress in reducing game crashes during startup on some devices and systems.

As the game was initially focused on open-ended support during development, this has led to many potential issues involving fundamental modifications that cannot be resolved all at once. However, we will continue to devote effort to maintaining these tasks.

Therefore, in the near future, we will on one hand prepare for the final stages of the new DLC and testing, and on the other hand, focus on memory optimization (as well as crashes and freezes caused by memory issues) by debugging the underlying code to make the game more stable when loading more content simultaneously or for a longer period of time.

We will continue to fix remaining small bugs and issues (such as issues with the ESC key on the DLC details page) with each update and continue the communication with players. If you have any good suggestions, please feel free to contact us directly through the Discord .

Preview of DLC "The Ember Saga"
The inspiration for this new DLC primarily comes from the discussions of "Desert Life" on our community. The contents of "The Ember Saga" will be divided into three independent parts: "Ember Workshop", "Child Rearing", and the new playable character "Among Legends".

Making Gems More Useful - “Ember Workshop”

Those familiar with the storyline may find the name "Ember Workshop" very familiar. It was founded by the leader of the Nasir Tribe, Husnu, from the technical school in the Redstone Keep area. They worship technology and use jewel to drive various machines, greatly improving production and combat efficiency.

The Ember Tribe is skilled in mining various ores. For them,
"decomposing*"
the gems that travelers have already identified, or "refining" the initial low-level gems, is their specialty. At the same time, they can also

In addition to gem-related features, the master of the Ember Workshop, Ember Ocher, will also make her debut, and travelers can travel with her. She is skilled in archery and can pose a great threat to buildings. Behind her, there are also some secrets about the "Vitalus Vitara" and the past waiting for travelers to discover.

‍‍‍ Passing On Martial Arts - “Child Rearing”

In the community, travelers often discuss stories after confessing to their crush, and the concept of nurturing offspring and passing on martial arts gives us inspiration. After all, even in such a turbulent era as the Battle of the Black Sun, new heroes will emerge constantly in the desert. Therefore, based on the current character relationship system, we have designed new content for
[Child Cultivation*]
and
[Child Inheritance*]
.

In the new DLC, after successfully confessing to the tavern girl, travelers can further develop their relationship with her, and may receive the “gift of love” after a period of time. We have designed many cultivation events for travelers' offspring, ranging from pregnancy to adulthood. According to travelers' choices, the inheritance of offspring attributes and skills will undergo corresponding changes.

In addition, during the growth process, the children can also fight alongside the travelers, and even have ultimate skills launched together with the protagonist. If you want to pass on your peerless martial arts, investing your energy in raising children will naturally become a new challenge to face.

Jianghu Grudges Reappear in the Desert - Among Legends

The power conflicts in the desert are complex, gathering many extraordinary people with their own agendas, as well as outsiders who have been wandering here. One playable character added this time is one of the protagonists from Among Legends.

Originally wandering in the martial world, he was forced to take on a caravan escort mission due to a series of unexpected events. And the destination of this escort mission happens to be the barren Desert of Salzaar. In order to make enough money to return home, he starts exploring this desert, embarking on an unconventional "journey home"...

Compared to the rough and simple martial arts used by the tribes living in the desert, the new character, who comes from the martial world, has a series of martial arts techniques called
"Mount Tai Ultimate Skills*"
- by combining
Mount-Tai Swordsmanship*
and
Mount-Tai Heart Method*
, no matter how fierce the attack is, it can be resolved one by one through powerful counterattacks. As one of the special characters in the desert, his gameplay and controls will undoubtedly bring you a different experience.

There is still some time before the DLC is officially released in June. We will continue to work on finishing touches and testing preparations.

At the same time, they can also
"synthesize*"
any extra gems travelers have on hand, allowing previously neglected low-level gems to play a role.

Love is a bit strong word for it, but I've pretty much always been fond of Pirates!/Space Rangers/ Mount & Blade styled games with player doing free roaming between various factions.
This manages to check those boxes for me.

How does is compare to M&B? Seems to be RTS style combat with heroes having a big effect?! Can you control your troops like in M&B and do clever tactics?

IS hard to compare, because the game uses other camera and has a story line. Quite interesting TBH.
