Ohh, Alone in the Dark! I've tried to play it as a kid, with lights turned off. Game was so scary to my teenage self, that I haven't even managed to beat it.

I only played the first game. At least I managed to complete it, after much rage and reloading.

I found it a nice touch that you could either choose to kill the monsters that attack you in the attic, or block them by shoving furniture in their way.

Anyone here play Jack in the Dark, or whatever that mini-game in the toystore was called that was released alongside AitD2?

You should play AitD 3. I think it's the best in the series, although perhaps it might be my bias speaking, considering it was the first and only one I played for many years - I only checked out 1 & 2 a year ago or so.

Yeah, I did, years ago.

Meh, I found the plot kinda boring and the ending unsatisfying. Native American magic gimmicks didn't do it for me. AitD2 was sort of popamole but at least it was exciting.

I remember breaking the mirror used to kill the gargoyles in AitD 1 and having to start over. Was there any other way around that encounter?

The plot starts interesting, kind of takes a nosedive at the end.

Are you shitting me? "Sort of popamole"? It was practically Resident Evil but silly instead of scary/survivery and with 100% more annoying controls.

In how many games you can change to a Santa Claus and start an interactive slasher film ? Look out boys, Bad Santa is here and is coming with a pan instead of gifts!

That dark maze in AitD1.. Lamp oil running out... Grrr... And at the end you have to cross it AGAIN, this time on a TIME LIMIT... Arghrr

moraes : there was no way to pass the gargoyled when your mirrors broke. The game was full of stuff like that. Nowadays we'd call it bad design...

Meanwhile, my little, itty bitty tiny castle OF DOOM looks ready to deal some nice butthurt to unsuspecting invaders.

Underhell mod. Chapter 1 was released today.

First time I'm seeing an inventory in a Source mod. Mind you it only keeps medpacks, bandages, food(which only serves to add 1-2HP) and flares so far; weapons, ammo or armor are not included.

Not it.
A pretty good mod so far, gunplay is very :smug:. If you liked F.E.A.R. 1 this is the closest thing I've played since.

One WTF feature, no quick-save. The prologue (which is about 4-5 hours long) is OK with checkpoints, can't comment on Chapter 1, haven't played enough.

The Lost and the Damned isn't half bad. I couldn't get into it at first, coming straight from Saints Row IV's lighthearted tomfoolery, but eventually it grew on me.

about alone in the dark, the game had digital sound and voices coming from a PC speaker. It was amazing for me at that time, since I had a 386 without a soundcard.

It doesn't show it that much on the still images, but the backgrounds are pretty good. There's always a bunch of stuff happening onscreen, especially if Peacock is present. I really like Ms. fortune, she plays like a mix between Felicia (Darkstalkers), and Wolverine (MAHVEL), with a bit of Dhalsim's stretching. Also, if it isn't clear, she can detach her head and use it as a weapon.

Also, it's telling that RPS considers Peacock (the one that looks like she came out of a Disney cartoon) as the only "sanely proportioned" character, when out of the 9 characters only two seem to have bigger-than-average boobs (and given their cartoonish body proportions, it's not even that bad).

Fuck RPS. That whole fucking feminist stance they take is simple posturing. If you want to bitch about gender portrayal in games you can do in much more interesting and, you know, actually valid ways than what they're doing. Wankers.
